Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro dosage available

lexapro

Avatar n tn Unfortunately, 20 mg is the highest dose that there is of Lexapro.
Avatar m tn Have you started tapering down your dosage per your doctor's instructions? Just make sure you are not adjusting dosage or quitting it without talking to your doctor first; just ensure you follow his/her instructions. Doing it on your own can cause many unpleasant symptoms that you would not really have to endure if you take it as prescribed.
Avatar m tn Compared to some other antidepressants, Lexapro is associated with relatively fewer side effects. Customized Dosing: Healthcare providers can adjust the dosage to meet the specific needs of each patient. Easy to Use: Lexapro is typically taken as a simple daily pill, making it convenient for users. Supportive Therapy: It can be a valuable component of a holistic treatment plan that may include therapy and lifestyle changes.
Avatar n tn I understand that SSRIs are sometimes prescribed for neurocardiogenic syncope. Is lexapro also effective and what would be an appropriate dose?
Avatar f tn Reducing the dosage of Lexapro will make the med ineffective as you need a minimum dose for the med to work. So if the side effects are that bad that you can[t take the required dosage then you will want to stop as you are wasting your time taking Lexapro. Of course talk to your doctor about stopping first. Some meds you need to wean yourself off of not just stop. But in this case since you haven't been taking it long you probably won't have to do that. Again consult with your doctor.
681888 tn?1272922309 You should consult your pharmacist or doctor regarding side effects (and how many weeks to take it before giving up on it or going to a higher dose). I switched to a pharmacist working for a 24 hour pharmacy because I had so many burning questions about depression and meds that I needed immediate answers for. I started on 20's and got an effect after a week which my pharmacist said was possible for some people, and the effect kept building every week but not quite enough.
Avatar f tn Well, first of all, you don't have to do what a doctor recommends. You can say no. Once you start the medications, depending on how long you've been on them, it's not that easy to just stop them, but you can if you want if you've only been taking them a very short time. I'm assuming you also suffer from anxiety, though you don't say so, otherwise the Xanax would make no sense.
1220347 tn?1345428521 Hello. :) I suffer from bipolar type 2 and I'm taking lexapro 20mg, anti depressant, and lamictal (probably spelled it wrong) 100mg, mood stabilizer. Since I have started taking them, I have definately improved, however, I'm not satisfied.
Avatar f tn When I started Lexapro my doctor also gave me a small does of Xanax and has recently changed me to a small does of Kolonopin until we found the right dosage of Lexapro. Just this week we are actually changing my dosage of Lexapro to 7.5mg because of a few small side effects. Keep up with it and stay in contact with your doctor. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn I used to take Zoloft at 200Mgs a day. Lowest dosage is 50mgs a day and even that dosage is too low for most people.
712802 tn?1274645485 I have been taking Lexapro for six to eight months and now I am having extreme fatigue and shortness of breath. Had my heart checked and it is o.k. My pcp thinks Lexapro might be the culprit so he suggested to my pmp that I be swithched to Savella (Milnaciprin). My pmp did not tell me how to switch - should I stop the Lexapro for three days then start the Savella; or three weeks, or just go ahead and stop the Lexapro one day and start the Savella the next? Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar m tn My physician prescribed Prozac and Xanax and my anxiety shot up...similar to what many of you have shared. I only took it three days. When I told her my reactions and some of the things I learned here she told me I shouldn't feel that way so soon and switched me to Lexapro. Has anyone taken this medication for depression, stress and anxiety?
Avatar f tn I took Tofranil (the brand name med) 100 mg for panic disorder from 1994 to 2004 and always responded well to it. I was switched to Lexapro in 2004, due to wanting to attempt a pregnancy. I took the Lexapro for 5-6 years, but it eventually became ineffective at blocking my panic. The doctor switched me back to Imipramine (because Tofranil brand name is so expensive) and since I've begun taking it I notice many side effects I never experienced while taking the brand name med.
Avatar m tn HI, just was wondering about an increase dosage of Lexapro. I started at 10 mg and my doctor increased it to 20 mg. I've been taking it for 2 1/2 weeks and have noticed an improvement over the 10 mg. I've been having more good days then bad which is great. Will it take 4 to 6 weeks to receive the full benefit from the Lexapro from the increased dosage? Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn I can tell you that even when you find the optimal dosage, that it will take a good few weeks at that dosage before you feel better. If the Lexapro fails to produce a full response than you can always discuss with your doctor about maybe adding a second medication to boost the effect.
Avatar m tn Hello, So i've been on Lexapro 10mg for about 4 weeks now and since a couple of days ago i've been feeling very tired and sleepy to the point that all i want to do is sleep. Will this effect go away or am i experiencing the true effects of Lexapro? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I started lexapro on April 16th, It seems to be helping my panic attacks and anxiety,(not so much right after my period ends) but it is still making me so tired and I take it at night, will this get better after time? Or is it that I maybe need something with it to give me a boost?
Avatar n tn m not exactly sure what the Max effective dosage is for Lexapro, but I used to take Lex for 2 years and was prescribed 30Mgs a day. Some people find effectivness at the 10 or 20Mg dosage. Just kind of deprends on the person and how they react to SSRI's and their resistance to such medications.
Avatar n tn I am now on 40 mg dose of rabeprazole and 10mg of Lexapro. Is the use of lexapro causing this ulcer related symptoms? Can i reduce the dosage of lexapro to 5 mg by breaking the tablet into 2 ?
Avatar n tn I am on my second week of tapering from 10 mg to 5 to 2.5 (today). Do not quit cold turkey. After reading all the scary posts online I braced for the worst, since I am prone to any side effects. My experience so far has been actually positive and I am feeling a boost in energy and happiness. I FEEL more, which means I need to be prepared for more lows/anxiety as well as the highs, but I am ready. Colors are brighter, music is more enjoyable, love feels deeper.
535882 tn?1396576685 Hello, I have been taking Lexapro since November and just changed to the lower dosage just last week. I take it in the evening because it makes me a bit drowsy. It usually take 5 to 6 weeks for the Lexapro to even out in the blood but some notice changes sooner. Xanax is a quick acting Benzo (tranquilizer) it is used for quick action to stop anxiety and panic attacks. Once the effect wear off though the anxiety just returns.
5342561 tn?1366664882 Did your doctor start the Lexapro at 20mg? It's usually tapered up in 5mg increments, and 10mg is the recommended dosage by the manufacturer for anxiety (20mg for depression). That doesn't mean an individual will react that way, we're all different and metabolize drugs differently, so one person might require a different dosage than another, but I think the problem might be starting you at the highest normal dosage, 20mg.
Avatar m tn Equivalencies are generalizations, and you are an individual. Besides, Pristiq is a different class of drug than Lexapro. Lexapro is an ssri while Pristiq is an snri. And if it were me, which it isn't, I'd start at a low dosage and work my way up on any medication so I could see how bad the side effects were and the lowest dosage at which it works is.
Avatar m tn I have just rec'd samples of Lexapro from my doctor yesterday to treat panic attacks. I've been taking Xanax when I get an attack and they seem to be coming a bit more frequent than I'd like - so I was prescribed 5mg for the first week, then 10mg of Lexapro from my doctor. I'm trying to be optimistic here... Last night I actually slept pretty well, better than previous nights -- wasn't up and down like I normally am. I awoke, semi-rested...
847195 tn?1296171647 It's 10mgs! Hope I feel better soon!
