Lexapro and vivid dreams

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and vivid dreams

lexapro

I'm taking Lexapro 10 mg and also have very vivid dreams nightly. My mother, who left us when I was a teenager, is generally in the dreams. I'm happy taking Lexapro -- it has very much changed my life and outlook. However, I will say that the dreams are very bothersome and can wear you down. It's hard to appreciate the effects of the day when you are still tired from dreaming the night before.
5mg. So far she's only having occasional trouble falling asleep and some vivid dreams. I believe that slow tapering in small amounts must be the way to go. They say no more than 5-10% at a time and wait to for most of the withdrawal symptoms to be gone before dropping more. I think that some might suggest your wife go up slightly and then slowly down again but we haven't been in your position yet so I don't know.
5mg good? Or is the nightmares and vivid dreams just normal? What causes these vivid dreams and nightmares? Anything I can do to calm my dreaming process down? I'm so pooped. lol. I know when you are dreaming you are getting good sleep b/c you are in REM sleep obviously. But it can't be good sleep when I feel restless in the morning. lol. Thanks.
I know I slept the rest of the night b/c I had more vivid dreams... and I slept in today and was late for work. The whole point of this is that I'm NOT wanting to take half an ativan to help me sleep! I'm trying to get rid of all this crap. The ativan is just for me to take when needed. That's why my Dr. took me off the Lexapro and Klonopin, it was too much for me. And my anxiety comes in spurts. I may be fine a few months, then bam, one week im bad, the next week I'm good.
I wake up tired all the time despite getting 8-9 hours of sleep a night and the dreams are so vivid I can't tell reality at times. Also, I'm a Canadian living in Korea, and on top of the huge communication barrier I doubt the doctors here would think anything of excessive dreaming. I will get it checked out anyways, but I just wanted to thank everyone for sharing! It feels good not to be alone in this!
If it's helping, learn to love the dreams. I had great dreams on Paxil, but I'm a writer, so I guess I don't mind vivid dreams as much as the next person.
Actually quite the opposite. The only think I am dealing is vivid dreams at night. My doctor is looking into possibly changing my dosage. He thinks it may be a bit to much for me. Good Luck!
ill let you all know if i have crazy vivid dreams tonite....I WILL SAY AGAIN...thie tea is AMAZING...
I have been experiencing numerous very graphic and disturbing dreams for the last couple of weeks. I am not sure if it's the tx or the Lexapro....or a combination of both? I have even awakened my husband by yelling out in my sleep. I have been exhausted the past couple of nights, and thankfully have been able to get a good nights rest without being awakened by the dreams; however, they come almost every night and several per night at that. Has anyone else experienced this?
During her taper she had only some minor problems, mostly vivid dreams and then a few hours of dizziness during the last two decreases in dose. You can see that the drop in dose was very small and the last dose she was on was .25, that is ΒΌ of 1 mg. Of course she had the approval of her pdoc to discontinue though tapered much slower than the doctor said she could.
The dreams are definitely the worst part of taking the Lexapro. I get on it- only 5 mg, and in the morning- after a couple of weeks, the dreams start. I am afraid to go to bed because I don't know what the dreams will be. Some are really disturbing. Then, I go off the Lexapro. The dreams go away starting ni a couple weeks. Then, I go back on the lexapro for its intended purpose. After about two weeks: it happens again, all over.
I have also been suffering from anxiety and depression and was on both Lexapro and Cymbalta for a little over 2 years. They helped at first, but after a little bit, there was no help from them. I gained about 40lbs in those 2 years and have been fiercely struggling to get it off. A week ago my new doctor told me that he wanted to start me on Wellbutrin XL. He didn't even have me wean off of the other 2, just stop taking those and start the Wellbutrin the next day.
She sleeps alot and is feeling down. My concern is that the doctor has now prescribed Lexapro for her. Is this a good idea seeing as when she takes the percocet, she is tired out but is in a happy mood. The xanax is used at night but she has taken the occasional one or two during the day.
But I do think it sits on a subconscious level and plays itself out in the form of a dream. Lord knows we have discussed this topic over and over and have the feelings about dreams. And preminitions in dream form. Just as case of belief. You either believe or you don't. And we both do.
remeron 15mg at bedtime was added to lexapro 10mg in am to lessen nausea and night-waking from lexapro. Needed to increase to Lexapro 20mg. This caused nausea to return. Will splitting Lexipro to 10 mg in am and 10mg with remeron help (eliminate nausea and not cause night waking)?
I just switched from citalopram 40 mg to escitalopram 10 mg and am experiencing very vivid and disturbing dreams every night. Also am sleeping 9-10 hours a night and am still exhausted. Wasn't like this with citalopram but it wasn't working as well as in the past. I'm also taking wellbutrin xl 150 mg. I experienced dizzy spells for a few days, but that has stopped. I've only been taking the esciatlopram for 3 weeks.
Like BeautifulLoser above, Lexapro gives me really vivid dreams. Not nightmares, just really intense and involved. Best of luck to you!
I have Xanax that I take at night to help sleep, if needed I take a tiny bit during the day, but I'm so tired already if I take it, I usually can't focus and end up sleeping like 5 minutes here and there with jolts of waking up and needing to move. Still can't concentrate long enough to watch an entire tv show. I try to listen to soothing music and read positive affirmations when I can focus off the anxiety. I would really really love someone to talk to about this.
I have recently had anxiety so my doctor put me on 20mg. I am on my second day and have experienced vivid dreams, diff. sleeping, waking up not seeing clearly, alomost confused or disoriented. Are these se normal with an increase in dosage, and when should they subside?
Within three days I was sleeping like a baby at 10 mg. Yes I had vivid dreams for a couple of nights but it was blissful compared to my brain refusing to shut off. I have been on this for a year and a half and have gained 40 lbs due to the fact that i slept soooo good onit and it brought backmy appetite a little too much. Soon I was so drained all day all i did was yawn. I decided to cut back to every other day for about a month and felt pretty good but still sleepy.
My dreams have also been much more vivid and on at least one occasion I had to seriously sit down and figure out whether something had really happened or it had been in a dream. It was something I was planning on doing, so it's not quite as bizarre as it sounds, but it's the first time I ever had trouble separating my dream life from my real life. I take both ambien and lexapro and am on week 32 of treatment. (28 week PCR below 10 parts after 24 week PCR was 20 so I continue to plug away!
After i started taking lexapro i lost ten pounds. My side effects have been sweating and vivid dreams. The good thing for me is that i have been able to sleep now better than i ever did before. The dreams are annoying, but at least i am sleeping. That is the one thing keeping me from stopping taking it. I like the idea of getting off of it, but whenever i forget to take it, i can't sleep. so i feel pretty stuck.
Hi, I've been on Lexapro for appx. 6 months now and I have vivid dreams, feel dizzy, and I'm fater than I've ever been in my life (Gained 25 lbs)! Proir to being on Lexapro, I was on Paxil for anxiety and depression which I also gained weight on. Once I slowly decreased my dosage of Paxil (b/c of all the horrible side effects) to eventually nothing, I was in pure hell after being off of it for a month! My mind was constantly racing, mostly with negative thoughts.
Yes, the fatigue, constant nausea, stiffness, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, hair falling out, weight gain, agitation, tingling sensations, muscle pain, severe headaches, neck pain, vision problems, tremors, sweating, chills, sore skin, bruising, insomia, vivid dreams and nightmares, increased urination, flu-like symptoms, severe dizziness or a feeling of being off balance (like the V8 commercials), not being able to concentrate or do simple tasks, the wrong words coming out, zoning out, diar
The Lex has definitely helped my depression, but there have been side effects...extremely vivid dreams, sexual side effects and the occasional leg jerk while drifting off to sleep. My counselor says I need to stay on it for at least 6 months for it to make a difference but I'm scared of staying on it for much longer.
I just took 1/3 of the 10 mg, and you are right, it did the opposite of what I needed. Made me wake up with PVCs during the night, and vivid dreams & shaky feeling too. Wow, It's been 15 hours, and I hope it's about to wear off. Sounds like you have alot of sound advise & really know your stuff.
I've still got a very very mild stress level but it's very managable. Getting a bit better every day I think. Oh and the dreams are really "out there!" Not scary or exciting. Just extremely vivid.
I CANT FIGURE OUT WHY LEXAPRO CAUSES WEIGHT GAIN, BUT IT DOES I DONT CARE WHAT THE DOCS SAY ABOUT IT NOT CAUSING WEIGHT GAIN, THEY ARE LYING! I HAVE BEEN ON 20 MG. FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW AND HAVE GAINED 15 POUNDS, I WAS "MAINTAINING CHUBBY" BEFORE LEXAPRO AND NOW I'M JUST STRAIGHT UP FAT. I AM NOW ON 1O MG. AND I ACTUALLY FEEL BETTER, A FEW WITHDRWAL SYPMTOMS, NOT BAD THOUGH. I TRIED TAKING 10 MG.
but have vivid dreams... nightmares almost.. and I sleep good... but wake up feeling like I was in an action packed horror movie... I can't say I've had a "good" dream sense I've been on lexapro... and I dream everynight with this stuff it seems like. lol. It's not a terrible thing, but maybe going from 5mg to 2.5 will help that some? And it may help with my sexual dysfunction. *Can't get off* very easily while taking 5mg. Thanks for your input.
I started taking Lexapro two nights ago. 10mg before bed. I have been having severe reactions to it. VERY vivid dreams, hallucinations at night, waking up drenched in sweat, violently throwing up. I obviously stopped taking it. Does anyone have a good recommendation for an anti-depressant while taking suboxone? Id anyone taking a similar cocktail? The ritalin is really helping with overcoming my wd from vicodin, and replacing energy/focus. I know it is addictive so Im very careful with it.
