439522 tn?1214951189 I believe it is ok to take the Valerian Root with Lexapro. I'm just not positive. Hopefully someone else that is certain will respond. Things should start getting a little better everyday now. Hang in there.

WAY too much... anyone have any advice on this? what can I expect after being on xanax for about 6 months?
1961084 tn?1325279027 I have used Valerian root for anxiety and to help me sleep and I think it works quite well!
Avatar n tn I've had good results with valerian and L-theanine. But I'd be careful when combining with prescription drugs. And always choose quality herbs. There is a difference between brands. Do your research.
Avatar n tn Fluoxetine (Prozac) is usually prescribed for depression, not anxiety. I would question my doctor about his choice of meds. That is simply my opinion. That he had you Xanax, which IS an antianxiety med makes sense, although I wish he would have made a different choice there as well. Another strong opinion. It's good that he is suggesting you now get off it. Do so ASAP. It should be easy for you to stop since you are taking it prn (as needed) and state that 30 pills last you 3 months.

1139187 tn?1355706647 I have tried everything known to man to try and sleep because it is really contributing to the overall fatigue of my body in a major way. Valerian root has never done a thing for me. I have literally used 8 bags in my tea to try and knock myself out and i get a little groggy.. but it does not take away the awakened state i am in every night. After taking it I just feel like a more sleepy awake person. It's just miserable really. So NyQuil has been my new experiment. No dice so far.
Avatar f tn On and for the ones who do not know, I have no access to valerian root or melatonin bc of where I reside.
623065 tn?1275503695 I take 800mg Valerian root and 50mg HTP 30 mins before bed. I've done this dance a few times and this always works.

4722421 tn?1360708571 I take Alteril and a Valerian Root to get to sleep. Alteril contains Valerian and Melatonin. I use Calms Forte when I wake up at 3-4am, although I first try to get back to sleep without it. I have a back condition so I always take 2 fast acting Tylenol. I'd say half the time just the Tylenol alone works well. I believe that if I'm using anything that relaxes me, like Valerian, it's all going to my GABA Receptors. I want to get away from that.
574118 tn?1305135284 s the difference between valerian root and other tranquilizers like xanax, valium etc... . I know that the action of valerian root is to inhibit the reuptake of GABA which is needed also it has anticonvulsant properties. But i need someone educated in this to explain the difference. What are the dangers. Although at my age i should be knowledgeable in this stuf but because i never tried them, even i never smoked cigarettes so i can't tell the difference in action between tranquilizers.
1349329 tn?1276985202 many years ago I used valerian root and chamoile (sp?) tea and it would knock me out. Containers of same created a lot of interest in Customs in Toronto one time on a business trip.
709686 tn?1277432159 I do know of Valerian Root but have never tried it. Yesterday I was in a local Wal-Mart and just happened by the section where the root is sold and saw the bottle was only $4. I thought "What the heck. It's the Wal-mart brand and if it does not work I'll only lose $4." If future results are anything like last night I have to say I've found the wonder drug. The instructions say to take 3 tablets 30 min before bed but I forgot to take any.
652671 tn?1353712165 t be prescribed and blah blah blah. I went and bought Valerian Root pills today and took 3 just to see if it would do what I kept hearing about. I think I'm in love. I feel so calm, so content, so ... relieved. Another plus is that Valerian root also quiets heart palpitations down and regulates heart beat. I've been so wound out over those stupid SVT episodes and PVC's all the freaking time ... I haven't had one ALL DAY.
248382 tn?1274938634 Until we know more, people should use valerian only under the supervision of a qualified health care practitioner and those with liver disease should avoid it. Although liver damage doesn't always produce noticeable symptoms, if excessive tiredness, intense itching, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain or discomfort in the upper right side of the abdomen, or a yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin occurs, see your doctor immediately.
Avatar f tn Valerian root has been known to act quickly in some people...causing them to have a woozy feeling.....Some have opted not to use it again because of the feeling of being high...melatoin is less likely to cause dizziness. Either way, just be mindful of natural herbs. I know just enough to know what has been used successful....and others that I have been adivised to stay away from...
Avatar f tn Still feel a bit restless in legs and arms right before bed but its getting better each day. Still taking valerian root about and hour before which has been the one thing that worked for me. Feels amazing to be in double digits right? Keep it up!
