Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and pregnancy risks

lexapro

Avatar f tn I am 22wks pregnant and i take lexapro and xanax for panic attacks and depression. my question is has anyone taken xanax during pregnancy if so was the baby ok?
Avatar n tn It sounds like your stress and anxiety is probably a mixture of hormones and just the whole experience of pregnancy and anxiety that comes with it. Please stay away from medication until you have your baby. And remember anything you have in your body, will transmit through breast milk. If you have post pardum depression, then definitely take medication (and therapy) if you need it.
Avatar f tn I am also 37 and want to become pregnant. I was on Zoloft and now on Lexapro and have been told by my gynecologist and a mid-wife that both are safe to be on while pregnant. In fact, they said they would prefer me to stay on the medication during pregnancy because if I'm not healthy and taking care of myself, it would be bad for the baby. There are blogs like this one for mothers and mothers to be where you can post your question.
Avatar f tn And I have been on the generic form of lexapro for anxiety and depression. My doctor made me get off of it 2 years ago with my last pregnancy and now i know once I tell him I am pregnant again it'll be the same response from him that I need to get off of my pill. Even though I will be a mesa without it. Any ladies on here on lexapro /escitalopram and pregnant?
958812 tn?1268764172 s can be taken during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Zoloft, Prozac, and Celexa are a few examples of Class C antidepressants that fit into this category. In general, its best to avoid these medications during the 1st trimester, if at all possible, and depending on the dosage you are on you may need to tapper down before delivery as some baby's do experience mild-moderate withdrawal symptoms after delivery. Visteral can be taken during pregnancy for panic attacks.
Avatar n tn I successfully got thru an entire pregnancy and had a healthy son while on Lexapro. Basically...we weighed the risks and benefits and talked it through. I was having such a high level of anxiety and depression, and being that pregnancy often makes those issues worse...we decided to keep me on the Lexapro. Definitely discuss this with your OB...sooner, rather than later...that way, any needed changes can be made now, and you can adjust to a new med if you are actively trying to get pregnant.
Avatar f tn I was on Zoloft for the last two months of my last pregnancy, and for the last month of this most recent one. I continued to take it for a few months after my last son was born, and I'm taking it now (my new baby is three weeks old). The risks are very low, and the benefits far outweigh the risks. I'm sure your situation is the same. Make sure you discuss the meds with your OB and your psychiatrist. It's important to continue your psych meds, as you know!
202436 tn?1326474333 I think you need to wiegh the risks and benefits to you and decide which has a higher score. Congrats!!!!!
Avatar f tn I took zoloft my entire pregnancy and my baby girl is healthy happy rarely cries just a calm peaceful baby. Klonopin does have some risks to it and only should be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Zoloft will take 2 weeks to notice a difference and 6 weeks to reach full effect but is important to take every day no matter how you feel (it has to build up in your system).
Avatar m tn I took Lexapro for a while a few years ago but now my insurance won't cover it. At the time, there were sexual side effects too. Now my insurance covers Celexa. I tried Celexa and it was definitely not a good thing, threw me hypomanic/manic. If I could, I would take the Lexapro again and just take the medicine for the side effects (which are covered by my insurance!). I don't remember any weight gain on Lexapro either.
Avatar m tn About 2 years ago, I discontinued taking Lexapro (took for about 8 - 10 years) and have been debating taking it again to help with my anxiety. Last year I was diagnosed with an IRBBB/Incomplete Right Brundle Branch Block. I am concerned about Lexapro and it's cardiovascular side effects, especially QT Prolongation which is listed as a potential side effect. Additionally, I'd like to share that I had an echocardiogram which came back normal.
142722 tn?1281533616 Taking meds during pregnancy is always a personal decision that must be weighed very carefully...looking at the risks and the benefits. Personally, Zoloft has worked very well for me in the past, with the least amt of side effects compared to other meds I have been on (Lexapro, Prozac).
Avatar n tn With my 2nd pregnancy, I was put on antidepressants - they were called Lexapro! Worked wonders, and was prescribed by my ob/gyn.
Avatar f tn I was in Lexapro and clonazepam for anxiety before I got pregnant. Once we got a positive test, the doctor tried to take me off the meds, but I couldn't handle it, so I am back on them....21 weeks pregnant and doing okay. My doctor actually told me either Zoloft or Lexapro are the safer options if you need a medication. Don't suffer...you have to keep yourself feeling good to keep your stress levels low for baby. Talk to your doctor about it...
Avatar f tn she had to sign a paper stating that she would be responsible if anything went wrong if they put her on the lexapro ....she did really well withthe lexapro and now her little boy is a year old and he is fine....in fact she is pregnant again...but zoloft is the one that drs usually recommend if you have to have something but of course you have to talk this out with your dr.....all drs are different and some dont want you on anything....
Avatar n tn My doc took me off clonazapan and xanax during pregnancy. Now i take low dose of lexapro only.
Avatar f tn it has been around 2 and a half years now and i have managed to slowly gain my life back, and are working and managing to be a mother (well most days, its alot more hectic now....) i am really happy with the results i have had with lexapro along with 3 years of councilling, my life has come along way.... i have been taking 10mg of lexapro for approxiamately six months and last week i cut it down to 5mg, i was going fine until yesterday and have noticed that i am extremely s**** and anxious..
1394262 tn?1369625192 My cousin was ttc And got pregnant last year while taking lexapro and Xanax. I know they changed her lexapro to the sister drug called celexia thru the entire pregnancy and as she breast fed. Her baby is cross eyed and I'm not sure what caused it but it seems like I'm the only one who notices or says anything about it. I guess the benefits outweighed the risks so instead of stoping despite all warnings on the TV. You really need to talk to your doctor to see what the best thing to do is.
Avatar f tn I think your pregnancy and all the hormones are responsible for your anxiety. Did you previously have anxiety before your pregnancy? I myself suffer from Anxiety, panic attacks for over 4 years now and planning on starting a family but worried about my Anxiety and being pregnant/being a mother. Are you scared and worried? Maybe you should try talking to someone and take walks, it helps me calm down when I feel sick to my stomach from my Anxiety. I hope you feel better soon.
1840402 tn?1355432565 hi all im 25+1 preggo. i saw my doc today who advised me to go on sertraline as im suffering from panic attacks and anxiety but the thing is my partner doesnt agree as we've seen the risks, should i just wait it out til baby born? i was on citaopram but stopped when found out i was pregnant.
1390847 tn?1344657468 I don't know how long you've been on Lexapro but it takes 4-6 weeks to feel the full effects of it. We are respond differently to these types of medications, so what works well for one, may not for another. I take Lexapro and have for several years with excellent results and no side effects.
Avatar f tn Hi, asthma is one of the most common medical problem in pregnancy. With the treatment with appropriate agents, it can be properly controlled and risks to the baby can be avoided. First we will talk about risks. In asthma there is increased risks of vomiting, vaginal bleeding, increased blood pressure, complicated labor, neonatal mortality, premature baby, hypertensive disorders, and low birthweight infants. The steps you need to follow are.
Avatar m tn She was suffering from anxiety due to her high pressure sales job. She went on Lexapro on a Friday and her anxiety got worse. She became very agitated and restless. My brother said she was up at night pacing the halls and couldn't sleep. My mom saw her on Sunday and said she wasn't all there and that her eyes looked creepy. My mom was actually very concerned about the look in her eyes. By Tuesday morning she got up, went to work and had a successful business meeting.
Avatar f tn I'm currently taking lexapro for anxiety & depression and Omeprazole for Gerd and just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant. My doctor said the benefIt's outweigh the risks but I'm reading some really scary defects online and I'm wondering if anyone here has had good/bad experiences with them?
