Lexapro and ocd treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and ocd treatment

lexapro

Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with Pure O Ocd last October 2012 and I braved the symptoms until now (with the help of Lexapro -miracle drug) I've since been off Lexapro cause my doc switched me to Olanzapine last January 20. It didn't have any effect whatsoever, be it positive or negative. I stopped it cold turkey 2 weeks ago. At first, I didn't feel any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar m tn is lexapro meant for anxiety cause my doctor give me it and is it good for sleeping?
Avatar f tn does anyone have any experiance with this or can recommend another medicine that may work for my ocd and anxiety. my ocd is the scary thoughts and it was all caused after a major surgery i went through. it is getting better but i still have some issues.
Avatar n tn First of all are you diagnosed with depression? Anti-ocd medications are anti-depressents as well. Find out your exact diagnosis and exactly why the medications are prescribed. Ask your psychiatrist that. If they think you have depression they will tell you why. And you can discuss it with them. As for the medications you discussed I believe the first is Anafranil by brand name right? That is the earliest SSRI anti-depressent which are also used to treat ocd.
Avatar f tn Are you seeing a psychiatrist or a regular doc? There is no standard weaning schedule -- it takes as long as it takes for any particular individual. I also have no idea what "relationship OCD" is. Either you have OCD or you don't, and you don't sound like you do from your description, you sound like you have obsessive thoughts which everyone with a mental disorder has. Do you have obsessive rituals and behavior, or just "intrusive thoughts.
Avatar n tn You have to be sure of what you have because my Lexapro is for OCD and one of my therapist has not fully tested me to see if I actually have a trauma disorder. So go through the proper testing (psychological) before trying too many meds. I ended up with Lexapro after 5 previous that did nothing; I would list them but that may not be appropriate seeing as they may work for you.
Avatar m tn Lexapro is good. I'm OCD/ Bioplar too! And Lexapro works really well for me.
Avatar m tn My wife has mild OCD and has problems with obsessisive thoughts, perfectionist tendencies and mood swings. We're looking for some advice on medications that are known to be effective in treating these symptoms. She's been on Effexor for a couple of years which has been tremendously successful but she had to stop taking it recently, (due to it causing high blood pressure), and we discovered the dark, ugly side of this medication.
Avatar f tn anyway beginning week four I am crying at the drop of a hat, doubting everything, feel no connection with anyone or anything which makes this whole relationship OCD even worse, and I am constantly exhausted wanting to sleep. I know he loves me but he is exhausted and feels defeated and I just don't know what to do...? Should I stick it out with lexapro? Could this be the celexa coming out of my system while lexapro is trying to take effect?
Avatar n tn I donot know anything about anorexia but I do know about OCD. I also know Lexapro works well for me. Our body is made up of vitams and minerals along with all else. The brain has many chemicals. Loss of certain chemicals can be replaced by mood stabilizers or SSRI's which are used to replace serotonin. I am not a doctor but my OCD symptoms have lessened, almost nonexsistent by the use of antiphyscotic drugs to correct the chemical imbalance I have.
Avatar f tn seek an assessment with a doctor who specializes ONLY in the treatment of children and teens. The pathophysiology and treatment approach is completely different from that of adults. Also, was a VERY thorough physical work up done prior to giving her that diagnosis, to rule out any possible medical condition? There could be something medically amiss that would mimic some of her symptoms.
Avatar f tn This is where one keeps doing something repeatedly, like handwashing, cleaning, checking locks, etc. People with OCD often have ADHD as well. Lexapro can calm you and help you concentrate, but it doesn't sound like it's working for you. Don't stop this medication abruptly due to withdrawal, instead seek out a psychiatrist for a proper diagnosis and he can refer you to the necessary therapist or psychologist. Between medication and therapy, you can see results rather quickly.
Avatar f tn What medication did you try and for how long? Also did you consult a psychologist and/or psychiatrist or was the medication from your GP?
Avatar n tn t found the right one for me this time around. I was on Lexapro for 5 years and went off because I was feeling fine. I then went for 2 years, w/o meds and did well. Of course the symptoms did come back, but the Lexapro didn't work this time around.
Avatar n tn CBT approaches are great for the OCD symptoms and an important part of treatment for picking. Ideally you could find a therapist who is comfortable with both these approaches and who could help you deal with the historical and self-esteem issues. A three sided approach of the meds, symptom-focused CBT, and psychotherapy that goes after the emotional damage, would be ideal. If you are willing to really stick with these you can substantially change the quality of the rest of your life.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I may attribute this to my OCD... I am diagnosed with OCD and GAD and have a history of some pretty nasty panic attacks. I also have been very nauseous, and have gained weight... weird symptoms just all over the map! Does anyone else deal with this? I don't know what to do about this, I am at my wits end! I start my clinicals for nursing in 3 weeks and need to get better! I am currently on 10mg of Lexapro and Portia birth control.
Avatar m tn He gave me a depression self-test and diagnosed me with depression and anxiety, and then prescribed me Lexapro and Rozerem since I had a terrible insomnia problem. He also decided it was a good idea to start kissing me and grabbing me in his office. The Lexapro did such a good job getting me up and doing things, lots of things, but unfortunately, I believe it also may have made me nervous because it raised my blood pressure from it’s usual 120/80 to 145/110. I was really up, up, up.
Avatar f tn Hello. I currently am suffering with OCD involving HIV fear and I am thinking of possibly going on medication again along with counseling. I've been on many different drugs including Elavil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Depakot, Risperdal, and probably more that I can't even remember. I had a bad experience and finally when I decided to come off them I was LOADS better. But now my mind is going crazy again. I've looked up meds and I'm seeing a lot about Anafranil associated with OCD.
Avatar f tn i stoped taking the pristiq. the side effects were too much. so i'm back on the 20 mgs of lexapro. i would suspose this depression i'm dealing with has a lot to do with my dad's death and some other issues in my life. i've been on lexapro for awhile. it's the only one i've been able to tolerate. some many of the other worked well on depression but wrecked havoc on my anxiety. lexapro does'nt do this to me. i've accepted that this depression is situtational.
1503221 tn?1289584463 Then I have to figure out how to get all 4 of them out of the car and somehow get them to swim without them knowing how and without life vests and try to get all of them to land before they or myself drown. I have went over several versions of this scene and I can never come up with a good solution and I never know why this particular thing just scares me to death. It's like a nightmare without being asleep.
Avatar f tn Ever since starting lexapro my OCD is less and less and the hocd is gone. The mind plays tricks sometimes I guess. I know in straight but what a weird week that was.
Avatar f tn Also..when I get very down and worried, I think of the most horrific things. My doctor told me that they are "just thoughts," but when they are going on...they are very hard to control. One thing that I am very worried about is taking this lexapro for treatment. Will it cause me to have any other issues? I think about personality disorder, bi-polar, etc.... My doctor tells me I have to stop thinking this way, and NO this could not happen.
Avatar f tn Also, the other things you do for mental health issues like OCD are sorted out with a therapist. Talk therapy is very beneficial and is an important part of overcoming your ocd. Are you active in that? But going backwards to nothing is not the way to go. Backward slides are not good.
Avatar f tn At first I thought I might be the only one that went through this. But finding this website cleared up all my thoughts and worries.I know OCD and hocd was caused by stress and a chemical imbalance. God bless and stop worrying to all. Thank god for modern meds!!!!
Avatar n tn My son is 10 years old, diagnosed with a mood disorder, anxiety, ocd ,depression ,will lexapro help??I think most of his moods come from having the ocd and anxiety? They want to try lexapro not sure what mg yet??
Avatar f tn I also have ADD and the combination is a killer. I am on Lexapro and Strattera. I am trying to find a forum that deals with older adults since I am in my fifties, and any new research that can help bring more quality and happiness to my life. Thanks so mucb!
