Lexapro and kava

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and kava

lexapro

Avatar n tn Kava Kava is a great herbal anti-anxiety agent, but from what I understand it should NOT, EVER, be taken while you're still taking any kind of Benzo. It doesn't help detox, but once you have gotten off of the Klonopin for good, it might be something to look into, to help you when anxiety does erupt.
656198 tn?1226786836 But, you can take other herbal remedies as well. Xanax can be addictive as well and so you have to be very careful. You could try Kava Kava or Valarian Root (it tastes horrible, but relaxes you). Are you anxious from withdrawals? I hope you find relief soon!!
420281 tn?1204647504 t know whether to stay still or run for the door, since then i have struggled, i tried at the beginning to use kava, but my head was swirling and i was so upset, didn't want to go on medication, my husband has been on for depression and anxiety for years, that was not me.
Avatar m tn Someone mislead you on information, Kava Kava is still sold OTC and is still widely sold in USA, Canada and Europe.
Avatar n tn Have anyone tried kava kava and how long is the reaction time for helping with sleep at night?
Avatar n tn I'm trying to come off citalapram 40mg and want to try kava kava as a replacement but can I take them together? I have the same problem with my sex drive, nearly non existent, seems to be the norm on these tablets. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn Kava Kava is absolutely safe, If its dosage should be taken in proper amount. kava has been prescribed as an effective folk remedy for anxiety, insomnia and stress because of its good results.
Avatar f tn I went to see my gp last week to find a med that would better control my anxiety because I found myself taking my xanax everyday and I know how addictive it is. She put me on Lexapro and I took one dose @ 5mg before bed and it was horrible. the next morning I felt like I had drank 2 bottles of wine the night before. I drove up to the store and ran over a curb just trying to get out of my parking spot! My friend had a script of zoloft she hadn't used and offered it to me.
Avatar n tn I experienced high blood pressure, restlesness, numbness in my left arm, was lightheaded and when attacks started I was very tense. I was prescribed lexapro and toprol. After 2 years I was filling well and stopped taking medication. For 2 months everything was fine. But after 2 months I experienced same signs of anxiety attack. For 2 weeks now I constantly fill numbness in my left arm, dizziness, lightheadness and anxiety. My blood pressure went up. All heart tests are fine, but I fill bed.
Avatar f tn Nor should you add anything to your current regime without the knowledge and consent of your doctor. As an example, the poster states that Kava Kava is good for anxiety and that may be very true, but it is totally contraindicated while taking Ativan. As is valerian, another very common herb known to help with anxiety. The other word of caution is never attempt to wean yourself off any of these types of medication without the guidance of your medical doctor.
Avatar m tn I experienced the start of Anxiety 4 months ago when we sold out home we lived in for 10 years and moved to a new house. I tried self help and herbs like Gaba, Kava etc. But finally went to seek professional help with a P-Doc. He prescribed Lexypro . I'm on day 5 and the anxiety has gotten worse . Day 1-3 wasn't as bad. Day 5 was high anxiety so I took a .25 Kolonpin . But I'm kind of worried about this Lexypro.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used kava-kava (Piper methysticum) as a sleep aid and/or to help qwell anxiety symptoms? Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Passionflower is considered a systemic anti-anxiety herb, meaning regular use over a period of time helps the nervous system calm down. Quicker and stronger natural remedies would be kava and holy basil -- the first works on GABA, probably, and the second works on cortisol production, which creates the physiological symptoms of anxiety. Herbs that balance the adrenals, such as ashwagandha, might help as well. Valerian also helps some people.
Avatar f tn Try to find the studies by googling them. As to kava, there were five people who suffered sever liver damage and were taking kava. One was an Australian aborigine, I think, who was drinking buckets of it every day, so we have to kind of discount that one -- no one recommends drinking buckets of it. The other four were all using standardized kava, not a regular tincture or herbal tea or the traditional drink used in Vanatu.
Avatar f tn Lexapro is an anti-depressant, with some positive affects on anxiety, but it also has side effects, so it seems strong and wrong for what you have and it can be hard to quit taking if you're on it a long time -- the body has a hard time readjusting to not having serotonin artificially affected. I wouldn't think that's a good choice for a start here, nor would I Lunesta, in my opinion, since sleeping pills can leave one drowsy and bother REM sleep, as can Lexapro and clonazepam.
467977 tn?1262714747 but i have heard some not so good things about it, i also have in the past year started with anxiety and am taking lexapro and adivan (lorazepam) for my nerves, it does not make you feel funny, if a whole pill is too much you can cut it in half, i would try it and get off the klonopin until your paxil kicks in, and don't worry it will kick in again and you will start to feel better, maybe a good cry would help rellieve some stress and make you feel better.
Avatar f tn Depends on the person. Depends on how severe the anxiety is. Kava is the closest herb probably to a benzo in effect. It comes in different forms. The traditional way to take it is a drink, which is how they use it in the islands where it's native. You can take it in a tea or alcohol tincture, but it tastes pretty awful. You can take the plain herb in a capsule. You can take the juice in a capsule.
Avatar n tn gaba also helps sleep..vlaerian root can be taken during the day for anxiety and night for sleep...kava kava helps to in u want to avoid benzos i strated provigil when the fatige post detox hit me..and i got me to work so that i did not lose my job...i told my doctor i was tied and couldnt stay awake which was the truth...not habit forming as a rule but can be abused/not likely as if u use more u dont feel well..it caps out and after that u feel jittery...
Avatar n tn Can anxiety lead you to be itchy at night? I don't have a fear of bugs but I feel like lately I am being bitten all the time. I have a crawly feeling that I used to get occasionally but now it seems constant and I feel like I am being attacked at night. I have some bites but nothing like what "I feel" like is happening. On a side note I found out we have ticks in our house (more than I would like to admit) and we are having our house treated on Monday.
Avatar f tn If kava tea works, then your problem is very slight, because there's not much kava in it. If you want an appropriate amount of kava, Eclectic Institute, Herb Pharm, Gaia all make kava in various forms, tinctures and pills, standardized and not. Remember, if it tastes good, there's very little kava in it, it tastes horrible. As for the Canada ban, it's kind of banned in the US, too.
955569 tn?1255489680 but heres my problem i was always very healthy and fit. ever sense meds i have high blood pressure, etc and im done.. i stop taking my lexapro 20mg. cold turkey about 3weeks ago. how long do these withdrawl effects last. i currently have a bit of sweating, but my most sever effects are chest feels tight, brain feels very cloudy, and my temper seems very sure as im easily ticked off.
Avatar m tn t have given you the GABA and maybe not the 5-HTP either since you were on Lexapro and that can cause an overproduction of serotonin. I don't know how long you were on Lexapro, but quitting can cause withdrawal, and 5-HTP exaggerates that withdrawal for some. But it can be very effective for many, as it does what the ssris do but in the natural way the brain uses serotonin.
