Lexapro and fish oil

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and fish oil

lexapro

Avatar m tn Same with omega-3 oils, as anti-depressants often cause weight gain and increased cholesterol, which is aided by omega 3 oils, and they also aid brain function, particularly fish oil (DHA). Fish oil is also said to help with the brain zaps some people get when they stop ssris, so it's useful to have in your system.
Avatar m tn would not take lexapro and effexor together. for effexor withdrawal i take omega3 fish oil caps twice a day//benadryl as needed for dizzyness\\ b12 sublingualtwice a day\\st. johns wort twice a day// vitamin d3 twice a day ---ibuprofen(motrin) as needed for muscle pain. as far as i am concerned, i will never take a prescription rx. for anxiety and depression again. i also have ptsd. i am sticking to st. johns wort and omega 3 fish oil caps. both will treat depression.
476654 tn?1207852799 I am fine with the kids I work with, but my age and older- ugh! Anyways, I take effexor and fish oil (used to take lexapro, it was tough getting off trust me), and I would say stay on it, and add the fish oil. Maybe consider getting the dose lowered.
1042487 tn?1275279899 Yeah I'm taking fish oil via sardines and various other sources every day but I also bought some 5-HTP and you are right it got worse. I'm considering staying a while on 5-HTP tho because of my terrible tension/neuralgia headaches. To YuK: 1 month with brain zaps sounds awful i hope ill get thru this in time and so I hope you will do. I don't get them while partying tho...
Avatar n tn Actually, Cod liver oil should not be taken regularly. It is used for things like dry eyes, but it can have too high of levels of some things such as Vitamin A for regular use. It's better if you're using fish oil for the Omega 3 oils to use fish oil, not liver oil. Nordic Naturals is a reliable brand noted for not using fish from contaminated waters.
Avatar f tn I have been on lexapro for 3 months and while my depression is better I am gaining a massive amount of weight 20 pounds in 3 months. What can I do to stop this? Is there another medication that could help counteract this side effect? My current doctor is very over weight so he doesn't understand how badly this effects me, so much so I have considered stopping the meds but trust me I have 6 kids and I NEED TO BE ON THEM! Any suggestions?
691935 tn?1421027090 If you decide to tough it out, try taking a heft dose of fish oil daily. Some people report this helps with the brain shocks. For the emotional stuff, some people have found St. John's Wort helpful. Some also report liver cleansing helps. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn It does sound like withdrawal, and a mild one at that. Time should heal it. Try taking fish oil -- it's said to help.
Avatar f tn Go back on the Lexapro at the last dose at which you felt fine and taper off as slowly as you need to, or stick it out and hope it stops keeping in mind that some people suffer very long withdrawals and some very short ones and some none at all and some permanent ones. We are different. If you decide to stick it out, try taking a good dose of fish oil every day -- some say it helps with the zaps.
Avatar f tn I thought it was time to try to come off it and see how a feel because I am in my early 30s and have young kids and wanted to feel good abour myself again and lose the weight. Well, the first few days off of Lexapro were pretty good and then on about day 5, I started to feel HORRIBLE. I was sweating horribly, had a constant headache and nausea. I was so dizzy. It has just been a disaster.
Avatar m tn I also had a terrible adverse reaction to only one 10mg of Lexapro. It's been a month now and I'm still experienceing some symptoms, but not as bad as the first few weeks. I've been to my doctor a number of times and she reassures me I'll be okay, and that it will just take time (possibly months) for my body and brain chemicals to go back to normal. I know how you're feeling, and it's very scary.
617441 tn?1221176206 By all means give them fish oil and maybe it will help in the long run, but please do not allow someone to coerce you into believing that fish oil is better than science. Accupuncture, kinoki foot pads, and intestinal flushes are all a wash and I put fish oil into that group.
Avatar n tn If it were me, I would probably avoid the Salmon oil and use a different kind of fish oil. Carlson had a great one and I can tolerate it well, I have all kinds of allergies, but, this is good for me to take.
Avatar n tn My husband has hep c and cirrhosis, and currently takes 1760mg of fish oil per day at the recommendation of his hepatologist. It was recommended for him because of elevated triglycerides and was deemed safe even though he has low platelets. Of course, always discuss any medications, including supplements, with your doctor.
374933 tn?1291081784 I have graves and thyroid eye diease and flaxseed oil works better for me than fish oil. I take it everyday and it seems to help, also staying hydrated is really important. And if I am good not drinking helps...but sometimes you just need the wine.
Avatar n tn I have very dry skin, which has been worse since I've been having thyroid problems - I had been taking flaxseed oil, but the doctor suggested that I try fish oil instead (3000 mg/ day), as it's more easily absorbed. It made a real difference - for the better :-) You should probably ask your doctor, but if they have no objections, it could be quite helpful.
Avatar f tn I have tried different brands of fish oil on different occassions as well as my husband. I wished I could take it for the health benefits; but, in our case, it causes digestive upset such as bloating and gas. So, I've replaced fish oil with flax seed oil and we do not experience the gas and bloating we had with fish oil. In my case, I feel much better on flax seed oil, emotionally as well as physically.
Avatar f tn My bf is freaking out at me for not taking the fish oil, when I was taking it I used to burp up fish taste all the time and ended up puking which was even stronger fish taste. My doc said omega is important, and I don't like eating fish..any other suggestions?
Avatar m tn Actually, two things: If you're not allergic to krill oil, it is touted to be the superior form of animal based omega three oil. Second, all people should ideally use krill oil or fish oil everyday indefinitely. If you're able to take the krill oil, use that one. I've learned that fish oil can be rancid without one actually knowing this, whereas, krill oil doesn't have this tendency so much.
Avatar n tn Has anyone else experienced a dramatic increase in the number of PVCs associated with taking a fish oil supplement? I started taking a cod liver oil supplemnt about 6 weeks ago and have noticed a huge increase in my PVCs. Over the past few years I have hardly noticed my PVCs - having maybe only a couple skipped beats per hour. But since i started the fish oil supplement, my PVCs have increased to the point where last week I was having 4-5 PVCs every minute, that is, every few beats.
Avatar n tn I was on Lexapro for about two or three years for mild panic attacks. It never helped, but it made me feel hyper and emotionally numb. Recently under a psychiatrist's supervision, I tapered off Lexapro from 20mg to 5mg over about eight weeks. He put me on 250mg Depakote to "balance" my moods "just in case"......I felt fine and stable the whole time.
Avatar m tn Someone posted on another site that they had seen in a study a lonk between PVcs increasing and fish oil? I find this fascinating because I DID increase my fish oil consumption a couple of months ago andhave recently gone through a REALLY BAD bout of PVcs. I am very careful about the other stuff like caffeine, alcohol, etc. Has ANYBODY heard about this? Thanks and be well.
Avatar f tn "I've read that fish oil supplements can raise your FBS and shouldn't be taken by diabetics." Tell us where you read this; magazine, book or link? I'd like to see how they conducted their testing and whether or not it was on humans, not lab mice/rats. Always read the nutrition label carefully. Also make sure you're not allergic to seafood products like shellfish which some fish oil contain. Fish oil does not raise blood sugar levels.
1319721 tn?1276040968 It is like comparing night and day. Many people think krill oil and fish oil are the same. This is a common misconception. Both fish oil and krill oil contain Omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids have been shown to possibly reduce the risk of heart disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration stopped just short of stating that Omega 3 fatty acids conclusively reduced the risk of heart disease. It was enough though, to fuel a craze about fish oil.
