Common Questions and Answers about Levoxyl medicine

synthroid

Avatar n tn I noticed on your discussion board that the latter is a generic. Now, what I would like to know is which is the best medicine I should be taking and how should I approach my Endocrinologist for a change in prescription. I want to thank you very much for having this message board to solve problems. This is great and your are to be commended for taking time to answer questions.
Avatar n tn "I recently took a thyroid medicine (t4), Levoxyl, for 2 days. I have been having heat intolerance, muscle cramps, irritability which I see they list as possible side effects. How long does this medication stay in the body and how long might I expect to have these problems?
Avatar n tn Hi, there is anyone else having to deal with this Levoxyl recall? I have had hypothyroidism for 18 years. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's 8 years ago. I was on levothyroxine 100 for many years and did great. Then something changed, Hashimoto's Dr.s said...Been on Levoxyl 75 for 4 years and have never felt good. Tried Armour, too much t3 for me, I swelled up on Sinthroid. I am ok on Levoxyl I guess but now they had to give me the generic because of the recall.
Avatar n tn 00 at walmar for just 30 pills, the website for syntroid ofers cupons but you can only used them when you buy 3 months of medicine and if you dont have insurance,, another thing be careful of generic brands specially for thyroid medicine you might get a better deal money wise but you might get to feel worse I have read here many times not to go with the generic got to do with their formula not being a constant, any way hope this help you have a great weekend!
Avatar n tn It means you will need to take thyroid medicine. What has your Dr. told you. Mine was 20 last week so my meds were increased I take Levoxyl. The reason mine went so high in my opinion is because I stopped taking the Levoxyl for a month or so. Felt lousy so had my blood tested and voila! Now I return in 6 weeks for another blood test to find the numbers. Maybe I will stay on the dose or it may need to be adjusted. This was my fault for stopping. They told me they like mine around 2.
537843 tn?1213664232 I recently had a total thyroidectomy (sp?) in January. Ive been taking levoxyl since mid february. My last check up my TSH levels were 29.0 I am taking 200mcg daily. I was wodering how much higher can I go on the levoxyl before I start to see side effects, or will I not see any until my TSH levels finally are low enough?
Avatar n tn I take Levoxyl 50mcg twice a day. I understand this is T4. I am experiencing hair loss and thinning. Could T4/T3 help me? Is Levoxyl the same as Synthroid? Is there really anything that can help hair to grow back? I am an 80 year old woman, in excellent health aside from the loss of T4.
Avatar f tn Wonder if someone can help, have all symptoms of throid storm except fever, went to ER five days ago or so, TSH 137 -DR changed RX from 125 mcg to 25 mcg gave me genric for levoxyl. Went to a MD 2 days ago,s I never had before, throat hurt, pressure behind eyes, dizzy "bad" it was doc I've never been to before.
Avatar n tn ) The Endo is slowly weaning me off of the blood pressure medicine as well as the Hyper T medicine. Since reducing the blood pressure medicine, I can actually concentrate again. Had a horrible time while on that medication. It worked great to lower my heart rate. But that is down now and so he's taking me off of the med.
Avatar f tn Were you on medication when the first tests were done in April? While your TSH was very low, then, your FT3 and FT4 were both very low in the ranges, indicating hypothyroidism, not hyperthyroidism. Some symptoms, such as the heart palpitations, high blood pressure, etc can apply to either hyper or hypo. I had them all when I was very hypo.
Avatar f tn Levoxyl is indeed a brand name levothyroxine, like Synthroid. It's the only brand my insurance covers, that's why I take it. It's works out best for me but the name has been a real pain. Now, before leaving the pharmacy counter I have to take my med out of the bag, read it and make sure it says 'Levoxyl - 112 mcg.
Avatar f tn I was reading these questions and answers and have found that I have also had a reaction to Levoxyl. I have been on the drug since the end of January when my endo switched me from Synthroid to Levoxyl (125 mcg). For about 3-4 weeks now I have noticed that my blood pressure is higher than normal, 138/78, it used to be 110/70. I get heart palpitations and my chest feels like it is squezing in the front and the back.
404389 tn?1217030704 I was told to never go with a generic brand. I take Synthroid, but at one point I switched to Levoxyl. The Levoxyl seemed to do NOTHING. Different brands may not work as well, or have adverse effects. You should stay with the same medicine you are taking.
Avatar f tn ive recently went through divorce and have no insurance, so no medical care, my question is how long can your body go with out levoxyl, i have no thyroid, removal in 2001 was in thyroid storm and had graves,,,, any natural componants i can get over the counter? been without for about 2 mounts now,m any really starting to notice a change. Please help !!!
Avatar f tn 88 and lost twelve pounds in two weeks. Changed me to 1.0 of levoxyl in November and gained six pounds. Weight gain may not be due to medicine, but it is due to how much thyroid hormones I take. When I was on. 88, doctor stated he was running me to normal.
743543 tn?1268763223 I'm 24 yr old woman. i m on 75 mcg levoxyl. 2 months back i got checked my tsh. it was 1.22. Now 2 days back i got checked and tsh is 0.6. should i decrease the dose of medicine? My doctor told me not to decrease.. what is ur suggestion? plz reply.. Any input will be appreciable.
Avatar n tn My mom is 76 years old and in the last 3 weeks her doctor lowered her thyroid medication (levoxyl 0.075 micrograms). She did not ask why he was doing this. She went for a regular checkup, she had no problems with any of her medications, everything was in work order. Since the lowering of Levoxyl she has had problems with depression, which she has never had before. She went back to the doctor and he gave her Zanex (spelling?)(for depression) and a note to see a phyciatrist.
Avatar f tn Okay, after all of my issues with my teeth hurting, dry mouth, TSH not budging, my doc called me today and suggested I switch from Levoxyl to Synthroid. What kind of side effects am I looking at? The dosage is the same. I've always taken Levoxyl, for 14 years. Now, after the thyroidectomy I'm just having minor issues like no saliva! Doc doesn't think it's related to the meds but he's willing to switch me to see if it makes a difference.
Avatar f tn I have been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl at one time or another, and they all cause increased episodes of tachycardia. In my case, I think it's the actual medicine in the pills that causes the tachy, not the fillers. I'm also on a beta blocker to control the tachy. My guess is that it's your increase that has caused the PVCs, not the generic versus Synthroid.
377296 tn?1281095438 I currently take Levoxyl and recently found out I am pregnant. They tested my thyroid levels and my TSH 0.027 and the FT4 was 13.6 . What does this mean? Does the Levoxyl suppress the thyroid from working, and supplement the hormones my body needs? ANy advice would be great- thanks!
Avatar f tn I am on synthroid (levohyroxine) generic for now,, well 2 months ago, I started itching and do get hives here and there, well I told my Endo, he isn't doing anything about it, he wants to send me to a dermatologist, my skin is dry of course because of my thyroid or the medicine, never been so dry before, yellowish looking, well he said there isn't any other thyroid medicine, well I called the pharmacy myself they told me about the Tirosint, which I am going to call back and ask about that
Avatar n tn s a year ago, tested positive for antibodies and very symptomatic of hypothyroid with elevated TSH. Soo, dr. put me on levoxyl 25mg and now up to 50mg for the last 6 months. Here's my question. I have these periods of time where I will have rapid heartbeat, shakiness, panicky, etc. for maybe 2 weeks and then periods of fatigue and constipation. I should mention there are times where I feel perfectly fine.
Avatar n tn So now that I have no thyroid I have started to wonder if Levoxyl is the best medicine for me? Is it better to go on something with T4, T3, T2, T1 so my body is getting those extras? Or it the synthetic "just as good"? I don't think my Endo. is real big on anything but the synthetic but I don't really know since I've only seen her once. I just can't help but think that without a thyroid that something must be missing, if you know what I mean.
Avatar f tn Hi, My Doctor started me with Levoxyl at 50 mcg (he said at this dose it had no additional fillers - he was concerned that I was reacting to fillers which is odd as he had me on 50 mcgs of Tirosint prior and pulled me off because he thought I was reacting to Tirosint (my skin was peeling). Interestingly he tried 75 mcg of synthroid (which I do have hay fever so that didn't work) and said I really needed 75 mcgs but I guess he wanted to see how well I would tolerate the levoxyl.
Avatar n tn Medically, the switch from Tirosint to Levoxyl was totally painless, though I did go from 88 mcg to 100 mcg, but I was ready to do that on Tirosint, as well. I feel as good, or better, than I did on Tirosint. The best part is that my wallet loves the price difference. I just picked up my refill yesterday, so I'm good to go for another 90 days.
Avatar n tn I have been back on Levoxyl after being off it for 8 months.I felt good at first but going in to my third week -not so good.I feel very tired, legs are wobbly and like jelly at times.I just feel blah and like passing out at times. Is it possible the dose is too high?My doctor put me on 88 mcg when I was previously on 75.tsh was over 26 but I hear it corrects pretty qiuickly when back on meds.Any input would be appreciated.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I am hearing positive things about levoxyl (brand). I am currently on a compound and i have been on it for about 8 weeks now. My numbers are getting pretty bad and the doctor says the compound is not right for me. My last full test showed that my tsh was at 65. The ft3 was 1.3 (range 2.3 to 3.9) and my ft4 was .4 (range .8 to 1.8) currently my tsh is at 115 but i do not know my frees right now. they are suggesting moving me from a compound of 150 to a levoxyl of 175.
