Levoxyl and weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Levoxyl and weight loss

synthroid

Avatar m tn regardless of being told Levoxyl will keep me from being symptomatic, will it also keep me from losing weight? Is Levoxyl inhibiting my metabolism from losing weight as well as gaining it. Last year for six months I kept my diet to 2000 calories , circuit trained everyday and maybe lost 5 pounds. I'm 240 pounds.....
Avatar f tn fatigue, weakness, weight gain, trouble losing weight, sensitive to cold, muscle aching and cramps, constipation, depression, memory loss, odd menstrual periods.
Avatar n tn I take Levoxyl 50mcg twice a day. I understand this is T4. I am experiencing hair loss and thinning. Could T4/T3 help me? Is Levoxyl the same as Synthroid? Is there really anything that can help hair to grow back? I am an 80 year old woman, in excellent health aside from the loss of T4.
Avatar n tn m hoping the increased dosage of Levoxyl will stop my hair loss. I have been taking 1200 mg of calcium vitamins and a multivitamin and evening primrose oil vitamins(2000 mg) (which I heard would help hair loss). Is there anything I should be doing to help prevent continued hair loss? Any suggestions would very much appreciated.
Avatar f tn Therefore to much thyroid meds can affect adrenals and in some have reverse affect and cause weight gain due to to much cortisol running rapid via my Doctor. I have been finding a lot of information on this since posting this earlier this morning because I thought my Doctor was crazy but it is true. I have gained in 4 months 15 lbs and here is my last test results. Thyroxine (T4) Free, Direct, S 1.74 ng/dL 0.82-1.77 F TSH <0.005 uIU/mL 0.450-4.500 F Reverse T3, Serum 20.3 ng/dL 9.
Avatar f tn I was not aware of any health problems and I do not have loss of vigor. Based on my blood test result my doctor made a derision regarding my thyroid gland, and Levoxyl 0,05 mg was prescribed, My questions: 1. Which blood test parameters are telling that I have to start/stop taking Levoxyl? 2. Can I replace Levoxyl with natural products (some diet, using the iodized salt, etc.) ? Many thanks!
Avatar f tn s to hypo, so I am wondering how long it might take for me to start getting relief and get back to life with the help of levoxyl? Also, does it help at all with weight loss? I know I'll have to exercise, but I can't believe all the extra pounds I am carrying are because of my diet. Thank you for any advice!! Take care...
Avatar f tn I lost about 15 lbs in 6 weeks a few years back, i juice fasted 5 days in one stretch and then did 1 to 3 days each week after that and exercised during this period. Not super weight loss but it stayed off and losing weight is not easy for me, never has been and I do endurance sports.
Avatar f tn There really is no other explanation for my weight gain. Looks like the doctor will lower my dosage of Levoxyl and keep me on Cytomel. I just have too much thyroid hormone in my body I guess? Synthroid made me feel really shaky, nervous, gave me dry mouth, etc. I felt fine on Levoxyl until I gained all this unexplainable weight and just recently have been feeling really bad, such as chest pains, shortness of breath.
613290 tn?1220851676 I have weight loss, loss of smell and taste, COPD, Hep.C, Peripheral Neuropathy, Hypothyroid, Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, MVP, HPV, Acid Reflux, Hyatel Hernia and other illnesses, too many to post. I just got a recent blood test result back and my T4 is elevated. Does anyone know if that could be causing any of the problems I'm having.
Avatar f tn I immediately went into a thyroid storm so the hypeer got worse and then slowly I felt like my old self except for a big weight loss...only 112 lbs to start and down to 98 and unable to gain them back no matter what I ate/eat..I also lost a great deal of muscle mass. My labs howed I was getting hypo, my TSH was 25 so the endo put me on 25 mcg Levoxyl. Numbers went up to 72 in 2 weeks so now on 50. Now she wants me on 75 mcg w/o repeat blood test . Have to go for that in 4 weeks.
458072 tn?1291415186 Just the start of this week I decreased the armour and added in some Levoxyl due to the high free t3. This has caused a huge increase in my appetite, and that is causing me major stress because this will cause the pounds to pack on and I have had a problem with weight issues since this thyroid mess began. I can't have this. I am ready to add in some Alli or some other weight loss pill. will have to monitor this and make some adjustments if there is not a chance soon.
698356 tn?1240150727 ve been really conservative with my holiday indulgences and have actually lost some weight. Though I think my weight loss is all muscle loss from months of fatigue and muscle weakness, because I can't see the loss (but that could be because I'm bloated). I also have intense dry mouth and sores in my mouth. Thanks for your help. Thyroid issues affect so many things. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on.
Avatar n tn have peaks and valleys during the day with energy, fatigue, some swelling, anxiety, hair loss...but mood is better, constipation is better, and eyes feel fine. ARGH!! I literally do not know what to try. Has anyone tried Levoxyl combined with cytomel. I think I may be reacting to the dyes or fillers in synthroid. My biggest frustration is the foggy thinking - these meds seem to scramble my brain.
Avatar n tn Hi Maggie...I realized I had Hashimoto's close to my 40th birthday. It would have been discovered sooner had my OBGYN put two and two together. I was low/normal (which he didn't tell me. He just told me I was normal. I found out years later when I asked another doctor to look at my file and tell me exactly what it said). Anyway, when I was younger I started having problems with my cycle at 27 years old.
727481 tn?1231203771 I need to know if anyone else is having the same issues that I am having. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 2004 and took methimazole. Felt great the whole time. In March 2008 I had RAI Therapy and after six months my thyroid was pronounced dead.
Avatar n tn You sound very similar to me. From what I hear, once you have a thyroid problem you can struggle with your weight for the res of your life. Like you I exercise and eat pretty good and just can't seem to loose. It gets very frusterating but think about what could happen if you don't keep up the exercise. This is what keeps me on the tredmill even when I really don't feel like it. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn When I was initially diagnosed I was also severely anemic, which can also be a cause of my symptoms, fatigue, hair loss, weight gain etc... Now that my iron levels are normal I feel levothyroxine is not really helping me I'm gaining even more weight, i have irritability, depression, tiredness. To see if my medication was the cause I've I actually stopped taking it the last two days, immediately my head feels better, I've actually had decent restful sleep.
Avatar n tn Also, i am still suffering memory fog, weight gain, brittle hair and nails. the whole gammit. i am sooooo very tired of all this. i finaly found another endocronologist who seems to care. he ordered an ultra sound of my throat to make sure that all was taken out. my calcium has not been altered at all. everything went well, except no one bothered to tell me or my husband that i would be a blithering idoit mega menopause "B..." and still am. when does the roller coaster stop?
Avatar m tn I am also growing a lot of coarse hair on my chin and my cholesterol - triglycerides are high. I gained some weight and have a hair loss. I wanted to find if taking the prednisone and propylthiouracil could be cause of all these? I took the medicines couple of weeks longer than I should have. Also, is taking 10 mg of the prednisone for 7 weeks considered taking it long term and high dosage and could it cause permanent side effects like the ones I have? Or are these related to the hypothyroid?
Avatar n tn I am a 44 year old female who maintains a good weight of 128 - 130 through somewhat regular exercise and moderately healthy eating. I've been taking 75 mcg Levoxyl for over 10 years. In May - June, I frequentely took 150 mcg in an effort to not gain weight while I was NOT exercising and NOT eating well. This may have helped keep off the weight for awhile -- not sure -- but since going back to the correct dose, I have weighed around 138 - 142.
Avatar f tn I had all the symptoms including the dreaded hair loss! With my doctors approval, I started using Iodine Plus along with Levoxyl. My hair thickened back up and shedding completely stopped. I felt great until about 6 weeks ago I started having increased heart rate, headaches and also broke 2 blood vessels in my eye. I stopped the iodine supplement and started feeling better, but my hair loss resumed. My doctor urged me to stop using the iodine. What should I do?
Avatar n tn I have only been on meds three weeks and would like to get off of them. I'm getting married in 3 months and can't take the stress of hair loss and crazy weight gain...will I crash if I quit these meds since I've been on such a low dose and for such a short amount of time? Any help would be so appreciated. Also I'd like to add that I'm 32 years old.
