988694 tn?1332359479 ___________________________________ The cholesterol lowering resins cholestyramine (Questran) and colestipol, and the antacid medication carafate may bind levothyroxine in the gastrointestinal tract and prevent its absorption. Aluminum-containing antacids and iron tablets or iron-containing vitamins (common over-the-counter medications), also can interfere with levothyroxine absorption. And a recent report suggests that dietary bran might also bind and limit the absorption of levothyroxine.
Avatar m tn Acella's NP thyroid can be absorbed sublingually (under the tongue) which is an option. I've read Armour and Naturoid both have too much cellulose due to reformulation which binds the desiccated thyroid so it is mentioned you need to chew them or crush them first. You can mix it with honey or syrup. You may need to increase stomach acid with betaine HCI (hydrochloric acid) with pepsin supplements for better absorption. Vitamin C also helps with absorption which i found interesting.
Avatar f tn I swear by zinc lozenges on the first onset of a sore throat. I'm only 5 Weeks pregnant and wouldn't you know it, I have the start of a sore throat. anyone know if it's ok to take the lozenges? I know, I know, I need to ask my OB but I don't even have one in place yet since I'm so early on.
Avatar f tn I think it should be taken at last resort after ruling out all deficiencies like Vitamin D, B12, Ferritin, Zinc, Selenium etc and also adrenal, liver, intestinal problems etc. Human thyroid gland produces mostly T4 and T3 is produced by conversion in various organs so thinking that aspect levothyroxine is still the best and safe approach. Its fully standardized and contains purely a synthetic version of thyroxine.
Avatar f tn I have had hypothyroidism (hashimotos disease) for 12yrs now, I do take levothyroxine for it and haven't had any problems with it since diagnosis. Recently I was diagnosed with herpes 2. My questions are: 1) since I already have an autoimmune disease are there any correlations between hypothyroidism and herpes? 2) Is a person more susceptible to getting herpes because of prior immune issues? 3) will having herpes affect my thyroid in any way down the road?
Avatar f tn Hi I was put on 50mcg Levothyroxine in January this year and I am now on 125mcg Levothyroxine. This was increased in June. Although my latest TSH result has shown up as normal my doctor thinks I am on the correct dose but I am feeling more hyperthyroid than hypothyroid. I have ordered a FT3, FT4 and antibody test and this is booked in for next week.
Avatar m tn TT Sept 2010. Put on Levothyroxine, then Synthroid. THE WORST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME. With the help of someone from this forum, I was able to finally find a doctor who put me on Armour. I went from feeling like I was dying to living. I am still working on finding my optimal dose, so that I can feel like I did before TT. There are some people who are saying that the pharmaceutical companies changed Armour, and it's not like it used to be.
Avatar f tn m currently 5 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism on August 12th (TSH 4.53). Started taking levothyroxine 25mcg on August 20th and found out that I conceived a week after I started taking medication. However the most recent blood work done on September 1st showed a rise in TSH. My current readings are: TSH 7.83 normal range 0.34 - 5.60 U/ml FreeT3 3.0 normal range 2.0 - 4.
Avatar f tn re just keeping an eye on it. Meanwhile, he put me on 25mcg of levothyroxine, which made me crazy, so he allowed me to cut the pill in half. For 2-1/2 weeks, I've been taking half doses first thing in the morning and then waiting two hours to eat. I then take all my vitamins, including zinc and selenium and Acai. I feel awful. I have tightness in the chest, feel like crying, have palpitations, and have trouble swallowing.

Avatar m tn Thanks for the reply. I've had an enlarged benign prostate before. I take a daily prostate vitamin complex w/saw palmetto, zinc, lycopene & pumpkin seed. Also take Levothyroxine for slow thyroid and Simvastatin for cholestreol. If this is my first episode of retrograde ejecaulation, what's the likelihood I'll have more? will my ejaculations return to normal? how could I verify that's the problem and what's the remedy? thanks.
Avatar m tn I have noticed the Zinc upsets my stomach so I have to take it with a little food. Just my personal experience. As I think you all know, I plan on treating with triple therapy (INC, peg-INF, RBV) leading into my transplant. Meaning I will attempt to become UND during those weeks (4-12) before transplant. If UND I will then choose a liver without hepatitis C so I will not reinfect my new donor liver and be free of hepatitis C after my transplant.
Avatar m tn I just found out that there is a class-action lawsuit against the companies that make denture adhesive. It seems that these adhesives contain enough zinc to cause many of the my FMS symptoms. I've been wearing dentures for 18 years and I have always used the same brand of adhesive, which is made by one of the companies targeted by the lawsuit. I called my Dr this am to arrange a blood test to determine the my zinc levels.
1475202 tn?1536270977 Also a couple of days ago due to my ammonia level being high (68) I took a zinc sulfate 220mg prescibed by my specialist to help with the ammonia. In less than a hour I was experiencing the worst pain I ever had. It was in my entire abdominal area and all the way across my lower back. Finally I tried a warm bath and it took the pain away. My specialist even called in some pain pills for me called Dicyclomine 20mg. which also helped relieve the pain.
12757438 tn?1433673730 Has anyone dealt with this type of thing before? They said its anemia due to the zinc toxicity. Has anyone’s baby bounced back from something like this? They have not spoken any words of organ failures so as far as I know that is not a concern. I’m just worried and not sure if I should be asking for something else to be done. Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can offer.
Avatar n tn (RAI) for the next year i felt terrible. tired achey etc......, finally at 175 mcg of levothyroxine, everything seemed to level off. however, recently i have blood work showing that levels were high. so dr. increaced med to 200 mcg. but i still feel aweful and want to know 1. does the med cause you to have constant caugh in throat (w/o mucus) and soreness in throat area? and 2. is it possible that i could have some form of thyroid cancer AFTER radioactive iodine treatment? 3.
11608111 tn?1419798651 I was recently diagnosed borderline hypothyroid and would love support to tease out this puzzle so that I don’t start on medication if it’s not needed. I have been reading the horrible stories of people taking Levothyroxine on here! I do not take any other medication and am generally very healthy, without being overzealous. I recently had a physical and my doc wants to put me on 25 mcg of Levothyroxine. I am borderline low thyroid, but I do not have any symptoms (I don’t think).
Avatar f tn I have recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was put on levothyroxine (about the middle of September). I went from taking 25mcg to 50mcg about three weeks ago. For the past two weeks I have had a terrible itchy and flaky scalp and have been using a dandruff shampoo but it doesn't seem to be working. Could this be a side effect from the medicine?
Avatar m tn My TSH is at 1.05; FT3 is 4.1 and FT4 is 1.11. I am currently taking 25mg of Levothyroxine twice a week. Should I continue? I am still losing a lot of hair. I am concerned that my FT3 is although within the range, it is right there at the very top of the range. Please advise.
438513 tn?1215703374 Could be you're sensitive to an ingredient in it. See if you can get on a brand of levothyroxine which doesn't have many fillers. I might have to go that direction too for the same reason.
Avatar m tn The major sign of zinc deficiency is affected taste. The zinc taste test is recommended. I have had this done for free at my local pharmacy showing i had zinc deficiency. You can also purchase zinc sulfate to try at home. I can't say for sure what all my zinc deficiency symptoms were as i has other severe deficiency states and medical conditions concurrently.
