Levothyroxine vitamins

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine vitamins

synthroid

Avatar n tn People taking levothyroxine frequently remain too low in the range for the biologically active thyroid hormones Free T4 and Free T3. Even when the dose is high enough to raise Free T4 to the top of its range, frequently the Free T3 will remain too low in its range to relieve symptoms. When hypothyroid the patient often does not produce adequate stomach acid to absorb vitamins and nutrients well. The result is low Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin (iron).
720656 tn?1311040235 Also, I am on levothyroxin with instructions to take on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. I also take omeprazole and vitamins. Can I take them all together? Or do I have to wait 45 minutes after the thyroid med to take the omeprazole and then another 30 minutes to take vitamins? Any help out there would be helpful.
Avatar m tn 0 while T-4 and T-3 were normal in 2007 and I started taking Levothyroxine 50 MCG daily since then. My TSH level stayed down at 3.79 (April, 2009) and 4.41 (August, 2009) which were normal. Is my daily taking of 50 MCG over dose? The reason prompts me to ask the question is to learn, if any, the subsequent side effect of a possible over dose to my recent sleeping problem in the last three months. Am I becoming a Hyper now and over excited in my body system that casued me the sleeping problem?
Avatar f tn I have had hypothyroidism (hashimotos disease) for 12yrs now, I do take levothyroxine for it and haven't had any problems with it since diagnosis. Recently I was diagnosed with herpes 2. My questions are: 1) since I already have an autoimmune disease are there any correlations between hypothyroidism and herpes? 2) Is a person more susceptible to getting herpes because of prior immune issues? 3) will having herpes affect my thyroid in any way down the road?
Avatar m tn Hello and thanks again for the reply, I do take chewable vitamins and gel caps. I do crush other types of vitamins, but haven't noticed any difference in how I feel. I never thought much about the Levo and how it may be absorbed, but I do wait a hour before eating anything after taking it. The doctors all knew about my condition, lack of large intestine and never mentioned any problems or issues.
Avatar n tn I take 100mcg of levothyroxine for my hypothyroidism that I have had for the past 10 years since i got pregnant. We never did a trial off it once i was post-partum. I get terrible fatigue when i am on the levothyroxine plus I have the hardest time loosing any weight even when I follow my gastric sleeve diet. I did a self trial off the levo this past fall and the fatigue magically disappeared.
Avatar f tn a month after surgery i was given 50 mcg levothyroxine. last week bloodtest showed TSH 47 / FT4 0.481 / FT3 0.942. levo dose trippled by endo, now 150 mcg (100 mcg in a.m. and 50 mcg in the afternoon). i've been on this dose one week already. haven't felt any improvements yet. i knowi it's too early to feel the effects. Question: is it safe to take centrum silver in between my levo? will it help my other symptoms, weakness, mouth sores, etc. thanks in advance for your input.
Avatar f tn After having a thyroidectomy I am taking levothyroxine (in Greece is ethyrox 112). My T3 is 0,88 (normal 0,8-2,0) my T4 is 7,91 (normal 5,1-14,1) and my TSH is 1,31 (normal 0,27-420). For a reason I haven't been able to find out (no matter how many tests I ve been taking from endocrinologists, pathologists, neurologists etc) I 've developed in chills, muscle spasms and small seizures (without loosing conscience) of 1-2 seconds each.
Avatar m tn You should check with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure. Please be aware that all vitamins/supplements should be taken at least 4 hours after levothyroxine.
Avatar m tn Concerning thyroid hormone replacement there are mainly two types, levothyroxine and natural dessicated (NDT) one and also another like T3 only with mixing with levothyroxine etc. Levothyroxine is choose by most doctors but I think everyone should go on a trail on natural dessicated ones too at least for some 1 month and choose the one which gives them better feeling.
Avatar f tn T3 is only a few hrs..all things are better split..I split all my vitamins..and anything i can..like instead of 500,1000mg of any vitamin...250,250...and 500,500 are much better...works for me anyway..and stella I have a ?
Avatar m tn He was started on a 50mg dose of levothyroxine . The difference of his over all health was amazing he began to feel hungry again his breathing improved. And he was becoming more active. After about 4_6 weeks he had another repeated blood test done to check his levels and surprisingly the doctor said that his thyroid still was not functioning properly and his dose of levothyroxine was increased to 100mg. This dose made him extremely sick. Bloated . Full of trapped air. Tired and constipated.
988694 tn?1332359479 ___________________________________ The cholesterol lowering resins cholestyramine (Questran) and colestipol, and the antacid medication carafate may bind levothyroxine in the gastrointestinal tract and prevent its absorption. Aluminum-containing antacids and iron tablets or iron-containing vitamins (common over-the-counter medications), also can interfere with levothyroxine absorption. And a recent report suggests that dietary bran might also bind and limit the absorption of levothyroxine.
Avatar n tn m taking an unusually low dose of levothyroxine and labs just indicated tsh is too low reduce meds to 88mcg. Why do I require so little? Could it be because I'm taking generic and not brand. Dr ordered more test to check t4 an t3?
Avatar f tn This is a common drug used to treat patients with Obesity. Did you doctor evaluate your current level of medication of Levothyroxine? If you are receiving too much of this medication it can have serious side effects. Levothyroxine (synthroid) takes time to build up into your system which is why you may have felt okay on it initially. I would suggest that you contact a medical professional. Any chest pain is serious. I would urge you to go to Urgent Care and have your symptoms evaluated.
1675985 tn?1323719076 Does anyone have an underactive thyroid that they take thyroxine for and if so do you continue to take during pregnancy? Also Vitamins, I take Glucosamine is that something I need to stop taking?
Avatar f tn I have just been prescribed cytomel and i also take Levothyroxine 100 mcgs. I wait until the afternoon to take cytomel which works best for me. I feel better after taking it, and I had my lunch already. Hope this helps!!
Avatar f tn Hi I was put on 50mcg Levothyroxine in January this year and I am now on 125mcg Levothyroxine. This was increased in June. Although my latest TSH result has shown up as normal my doctor thinks I am on the correct dose but I am feeling more hyperthyroid than hypothyroid. I have ordered a FT3, FT4 and antibody test and this is booked in for next week.
Avatar n tn I was taking 125 mcg of levothyroxine per day. My doctor was suggesting that I go to 137 mcg per day, but I thought that staying at 125 mcg per day might be a better idea. I started the thread to get advice on which dosage to take. -------------- I just wanted to update you guys on my situation and to get some more advice. First of all, I decided to stay at 125 mcg per day.
Avatar n tn I recently went off levothyroxine for a few months, I wanted a 'clean-slate' for my labs. (Diagnosed Hypo Fall of 2007). My labs just came back within normal range (both antibodies, T3 Total, Free T4, reverse T3), except for my TSH, at 9.15. My general practitioner wants me to start back on 100mcg and get rechecked in 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn In early September I started losing hair by the handful. I went to the doctor and he put me on 50 mcg Levothyroxine for thyroiditis and started me on iron supplements since my iron was low. My scalp hair loss seemed to have slowed down, but in the last few days it has picked up again. But now I'm not only losing scalp hair, but eyebrow, pubic hair, nose hair, and eyelashes. It is devastating to me. On top of that, I have increased peach fuzz all along my jawline.
Avatar m tn Acella's NP thyroid can be absorbed sublingually (under the tongue) which is an option. I've read Armour and Naturoid both have too much cellulose due to reformulation which binds the desiccated thyroid so it is mentioned you need to chew them or crush them first. You can mix it with honey or syrup. You may need to increase stomach acid with betaine HCI (hydrochloric acid) with pepsin supplements for better absorption. Vitamin C also helps with absorption which i found interesting.
1756969 tn?1332437163 I was recently diagnoised with hypothyroidism and I am beyond depressed, scared, mad and confused. I take pretty good care of myself workout, trying to eat pretty good many vitamins and supplements and good sleep. it is in my family history but I have had normal levels for the last few years and now this year my tsh levels are high. at 5.8 what? my dr just throws me on levothyroxine at 12.
Avatar f tn Recently diagnosed as hypothyroid. I have been battling extreme fatigue for almost a year. It has been quite debilitating. I'm getting ready to go back to school this fall and I'm getting worried that the tiredness and brain fog will not be gone by then. I'm on 50mcgs of levothyroxine. I started the medication 2 weeks ago. What other vitamins, supplements and dietary modifications can I do to get my energy back? How long before I get relief?? I'm tired of feeling like a zombie.
