Levothyroxine synthroid

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine synthroid

synthroid

Avatar m tn Her husband is a pharmacist, and he says their is a difference between synthroid and levothyroxine, and insists that she stay on levothyroxine. Is there that much difference between the two? I would think that if you are on one or the other nad stay with it, it shouldn't matter.
Avatar n tn Is synthroid and levothyroxine the exact same ? My Doctor ,mistakenly, changed me from levothyroxine to synthroid, same dosage. After taking it for 3 days,I have been itching really bad. Is there a connection between my itching and the change in medicine ? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/263782'>Synthroid versus generic levothyroxine (I have Hashimoto's)</a>.
Avatar n tn Synthroid is the same drug as Levothyroxine. The Differences between the two are the fillers the manufactures use, and quality control. Synthroid has better consistancy from batch to batch. Levothyroxine is made by several different companies, and your med could change just by your pharmacy using a different supplier. Synthroid is preferred over generic levothyroxine by most doctors that perscribe such medications.
Avatar f tn Wondering if anyone else has experienced allergic reaction or sensitivities to 134 mcg (blue) Synthroid, and if anyone has switched to Compounded Levothyroxine with Avicel as the filler and had a reaction to that filler. Also wondering if Compounded Levothyroxine would be as effective in managing hypothyroid symptoms as Synthroid, as after my total thyroidectomy in 2006 they started me on generic levothyroxine and it did not help, but the brand name Synthroid did help to improve my TSH levels.
Avatar f tn She brought out this pamplet that said synthroid compared to levothyroxine is just like motrin vs advil = manufacturer. I said I knew that, but its the fillers that the different companies use that makes the difference in person to person. Some people are just "sensitive" to the fillers of levothyroxine, not the medicine itself. She rewrote my prescription for synthroid, and now 2 months later, walla!! No effects like before.
Avatar f tn My mail order pharmacy sent me 0.75mg of levothyroxine instead of the 0.75mcg which is the correct dosage, I have taken almost the entire bottle, I need a refill this how I noticed the dosage was wrong. Is there a big difference between mcg and mg? Could this be harmful?
Avatar f tn If you do not need the levothyroxine, you certainly do not need Cytomel. There is no special procedure for stopping your Levothyroxine. You just stop. If the doctor tells you to, that is. If you have hypothyroidism and you get your levels adjusted properly with medication, that does not mean you are healed and can stop the med. If your thyroid resumes function to the point that you do not need levothyroxine, you will know because the medication will drive you hyper.
Avatar f tn It took a whole week for them to let me know I was hyper form the synthroid and it was imperative I changed my dose immediately! I knew I was overdosed as I was having palpitations, couldn't sleep etc. I also have a nodule, which is growing despite the high synthroid, which was supposed to make it stop. I had one biopsy which was inconclusive, so now they want to do another. My PCP said 'get it removed' but I am against surgery as I've had quite a bit in my life.
393685 tn?1425812522 I take Levoxyl, a form of levothyroxine, as is Synthroid and several other name brand T4 products.
Avatar f tn Synthroid, Levoxyl, and other brands of generic Levothyroxine all have comparable doses. If you switch brands from generic to Synthroid, the dose would remain the same unless your doctor changes your dosage for some reason.
393419 tn?1228447393 For the 1st hour or so after I take my levothyroxine (synthroid) .175mcg, I get a shaky feeling, as time goes on, it dissipates. . .is this "relatively" normal, or is it something that I should mention to my doctor. I have a list of questions to ask him, but I'm loathe to ask too many silly ones of out of fear of being labeled a difficult or crazy patient. (i like & trust my doctor, but i fear that i'm one nutty question away from the edge.) thanks all!
4274823 tn?1388529098 How are Synthroid (Levothyroxine) and Eltroxin different? I'm doing my homework because my doctor has recommended Synthroid. I have never heard of Eltroxin until it was mentioned by a pharmacist as an option.
Avatar m tn Ask the Dr to change him back to Synthroid...some people do better on synthroid than levothyroxine and vice versa. Stay away from the generic medicines. Did the dr run thyroid panel before changing dosage? It takes at least 6 weeks for med to level out, and thyroid labs should be done every 6 weeks until optimum levels are reached and held. Hashimoto's can be a rough ride for some.
7074596 tn?1387754708 Yes, Levoxyl is the same as Levothyroxine which is the generic name . Synthroid is the Brand name for Levothyroxine. So it is the same drug.
Avatar n tn i was off the levothyroxine for a few days and started the synthroid last night, and i am still having terrible indigestion, today being the worst day so far. is this normal, and does levothyroxine stay in your system enough that after a couple of days without taking it, i'd still have the indigestion?
Avatar n tn These are not likely synthroid side effects, but too much thyroid can cause GI symptoms and less likely ear/jaw pain -- doubt the goiter would have suddenly regrown to cause pain. Would recheck labs in 4 weeks or if symptoms worsen in meantime ask your doctor about the synthroid dosing. Long term use of meds like nexium may increase thyroid requirements, so the higher dose may work out well in that regard.
535882 tn?1396576685 0) never came down, When I started being treated by an Endo he explained that Levothyroxine ( A Generic) was not as consistant as a Name Brand (Synthroid) he put me on Synthroid 100 mg and within 6 weeks my Tsh dropped to 0.078, now I am on 75 mg and due back at the end of May for another blood work. Although everyone is different, some do better on some drugs and some do not.
Avatar f tn I've taken Levoxyl, Levothyroxine and Synthroid. Didn't notice a difference. But then, that was back when I was taking the meds for hypo and I didn't have the faintest idea what "Hypo" was. Had no clue about symptoms therefore I didn't have any. Ignorance was bliss.
Avatar m tn My TSH level was .080 tested 4/21/08, I was prescribed .075 mg synthroid to reduce the swelling. My TSH is borderline hyperthyroid, and my endo will not perform a free T3/T4 test. Is it standard procedure to use Synthroid on normal TSH, + or - hyper/hypo levels. What is considered normal ranges for prescribing synthroid for an enlarged thyroid.
Avatar m tn I was taking levothyroxine for several years, only since a year my doctor changed me to synthroid 88 mcg. Would this switch from levothyroxin to synthroid cause my muscle aches of the left arm etc. At the same time I developed a mass in the left neck. It is a benign schwannoma. So I am wondering will switching from levothyroxine to synthroid cause all these issues. Please suggest.
Avatar m tn I've been on Levothyroxine for the past 3-4 years.. yet I website visited said that its be Used with caution in * Elderly people. * Heart disease such as angina, heart failure, irregular heartbeats, or history of heart attack. * Any condition causing decreased function of the adrenal glands. * Decreased production of all hormones by the pituitary gland (panhypopituitarism). * Diabetes mellitus.
