Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine soy

synthroid

Avatar f tn ve read on the internet, in books, and on my prescription bottle even for my Levothyroxine, as to foods to avoid. My sister has Hashimotos and saw a doctor that said it didn't matter what she ate since she has Hashimoto's. What is your opinion on this? No soy, or walnuts or other foods??
Avatar f tn Are you taking anything with soy in it? Soy is not good for thyroid sufferers. They nodule will not go away, it will probably get bigger. Keep an eye on it.
Avatar m tn I was recently on Armour 180 mg prescribed by my osteopathic doctor. I wasn't feeling 100% great so I asked to be recommended to an endocrynologist who is a MD unfortunately. My endo switched me to 100 mg levothyroxine. I am experiencing hives, small red bumps, redness, heat feeling & a puffy face. My face is in pain. I have also recognized fogginess, anxiety, depression & I have zero energy unlike when I was on Armour.
Avatar m tn in 2015 I was diagnosed w/ hypothyroidism w/ a TSH at 16.. was put on 50mcg of levothyroxine in the ER.. stayed on that for a year but never felt much better.. found a new PCP in Oct 2017 she put me on 16.25mcg of Nature throid.. I did well and increased it to 32.5 mcg & felt at my best.. then they changed the formula.. w/ the new prescription my TSH went up to 6.35.. was switched to NP thyroid & since then I've had severe heart palps/shortness of breath/high anxiety...
Avatar n tn Last year I was told my my endo. to not eat soy products and take calcium pill 4 hrs. after synthroid. This visit, she informed me I should not be eating high fiber cereal until at least 4 hrs after taking synthroid. I have to assume that 1% Special K would be OK for breakfast compared to the high fiber Shredded Wheat and Fiber One. What can you tell me about this?
Avatar f tn The only reason I mention this is because, little did I know, soy affects your thyroid and Lecithin (at least the kind I was taking) is made from soy. Is it possible I could not have Graves and that my blood work was affected my postpartum hormones and taking the soya Lecithin? I am currently looking for a second opinion.
Avatar f tn I have read that soy is a potential "no-no" for those with thyroid disorders. Well...sadly a lot of the food in my house contains soy and I cannot afford to replace it all. So, will eating the soy as far apart from the time I take my medicine lessen the adverse affects it can cause?
Avatar f tn Also, try to avoid foods with soy at least four hours after taking medication (read your labels!) as soy interferes with thyroid hormone absorption. Many of us avoid soy products altogether. Your doctor should be treating your FT4/FT3 levels, too. What were those results?
1691030 tn?1306069524 Hi, I am diagnosed with hypothyriod and have been on 125mg levothyroxine for a number of years, I feel really old stiff, tired aching joints and muscles, sick and also get very dizzy if I move my head forward and side to side. my advise has been anti depressants which I dont like as they make me feel like im walking through cement.....really hard to function. my levels are..TSH 0.04, freeT4 21.2, freeT3 5.6, bilirubin 2, albumin 43, heamoglobin 11.7, white 4.4, mean cell 84.1,mc heamoglobin28.
Avatar f tn pasta), low fat and substitute dairy products (1% milk, low fat/fat free yogurts, low fat soy milk/soy yogurt), use plant oils, non trans-fat margarines, and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Eat daily high fiber breads and cereals (oatmeal) and limit ‘junk’ foods.
Avatar f tn What causes TSH labs to change? I have been on the same dose of levothyroxine for three years and my thyroid went from 6 down to 2, up to 4 then down to 1, then up to 3 then down to 2, then up to 5 and down to 3. I know the levels of hormones in your body changes throughout the day, but my levels would steadily increase or decrease over the course of 6 months- for example, starting at 6, then to 4, then 3, then 2 and then turning around and climbing back up to 4.
913053 tn?1245952849 I used to be a full vegetarian but no longer am as the soy definitely interferes with my medication. I have some soy in my diet but not as much. Things like broccoli, brussel sprouts, kale, cabbage, can interfere with the thyroid too. Here is a link to reputable site. http://www.suite101.com/lesson.cfm/18912/2313/3 Do some reading and you will soon be educated enough to make your own little diet plan of things to have and not to have. Cheers!
Avatar n tn Your question about foods is interesting to me since Synthroid's in my future. Did a little web trawl looking for answers. Seems like the big hazards are supplements and meds taken too soon before or after the Synthroid, but the Physician's Desk Reference also includes this: "A high-fiber diet, soy-containing supplements, and walnuts can also interfere with the effects of levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn NO processed foods or artifical anything! Stopped eating red meat and dairy products. No yeast, soy, wheat, corn etc etc.. (am allergic to soy anyway). For breakfast I have Quaker Oats hot cereal (not instant). I thought I was on a gluten free diet until a couple weeks ago when someone told me there is gluten in the cereal. This is my favorite meal! :( Do you know of any cereals that don't contain gluten? Also, for what reason should we not eat gluten?
87651 tn?1259602403 After reading the contents, its says sweetened with milk and soy. I am on Armour, 45 mgs. Any thoughts? Or can we have soy, but within a certain timeframe of taking meds?
Avatar m tn I told them that I went on a strict diet in 2005. That I started drinking Soy milk and lots of soy related products. My hair started looking dull in March of 06. I got sick in April with a fever and my hair started falling out like crazy. Once I started eating meat and protein again, the hair stopped falling out (8 months later) but hasn't full recovered. I'm convinced the Soy Milk is what caused the thyroid issue as no one in my family has these health issues.
Avatar n tn i was recently diagnosed with hypothyrodism and was placed on levothyroxine 50 mcg per day. i really can't tell a difference in myself. i continue to feel as if i am in a cloud i still have lots of pain to joints and muscles, weakness fatigue, shortness of breathe. i have been on this amt of levothyroxine for 5 weeks the last test showed my tsh 0.39 they did not test my ft4 why im not sure since this was what was low in the first place.
976606 tn?1263667593 cabbage, broccoli, turnips, radishes, cauliflower, etc), soy products, etc.
Avatar f tn I had seen a primary care doctor years ago who put me on Synthroid, Levothyroxine, and Armour for a few months but I went off it because I had horrible symptoms. So with my new endocrinologist I resisted medication and tried every dietary modification - I'm already vegan on an organic diet, I went gluten-free, dabbled with sugar-free and soy-free, avoided uncooked goitrogens like broccoli and peanuts, and I ate seaweed for the iodine since I hate salt...
Avatar f tn Been on since 48 and tames my nerves and mood swings a little. I started back on that March 13. It has soy isoflavones extract, black cohosh, sage, red pepper, ginger root, licorice root, red raspberry, bayberry bark, damiana leaf so I take it 4 hours after the Levothyroxin. Can you guys see that I am off in the bushes somewhere? My surgeon felt that Avlimil would not hurt any thing. I have read a little about the soy controversy. china does not seem to hamore thyroid issues than anyone else??
Avatar n tn These can make the thyroid swell, (goitre) and cause havoc. Some people say to avoid soy, but that is still controversial.
Avatar f tn also if in your country t3 only medicine available then trying that in low dose along with levothyroxine will be very useful as your t3 also very low which may or may not improve with levothyroxine.
