Generic Name - Levothyroxine - contains the same active ingredient as brand-name Synthroid and Levoxyl.
Chemical Name - active ingredient is synthetic crystalline L-3,3',5,5'-tetraiodothyronine sodium salt (Levothyroxine (T4) sodium).
Classification - T-4
Contraindications - Administration (FDA) has determined that generic levothyroxine and brand-name Synthroid and Levoxyl are equivalent.
I am to start allergy shots next week. I also found that Acacia is used in the Levothyroxine that I have been taking for the last 15 years or so. I called my Primary Doctors office and they said to keep the appointment for the allergy shots and that there is no alternative to levothyroxine. However I read that Sandoz has pine as filler? Also Mylan brand at Walgrens has no Acacia. Does anyone know about these things??

I am taking levothyroxine Sodium 0.075mg.Also i have read the symptons and i have about half of hyper and half hypo as i am always very very hot i want to be cold i have not really gained to much weigh but i have never lost any . It seems like when i quit smoking 9 years ago that is when i started getting all these thing cholesetral -thyroid- gained weight .
My dog has had hypothyroidism for several years and has been on 0.2 mg of Levothyroxine twice daily ever since. Recently, when they did a check on his T4 they found that it was low and they increased it immediately to 0.4 mg.
A week or two later he began to significantly pant and wheeze. Then he decided to give him 150 mg of Theophylline twice daily. Could the thyroid dose change have caused these symptoms or is it a coincidence?

I take Eutroxsig (synthetic T4) for Hashimoto's thyroiditis but I had read good things about Armour so I tried it. I wasn't absorbing this medication so I had to switch back to synthetic.
After reading your post I was curious as to whether the 150 mcg dosage is effectively relieving your hypo symptoms? If you look through this listing of 26 typical hypo symptoms, do you still have any of these? The reason I ask is that a majority of patients taking large doses of T4 meds do not adequately convert T4 to T3, resulting in a Free T3 level that is too low in the range and causes hypo symptoms.

I have been diagnosed having an under active thyroid about 1.5 years ago, my results being "borderline". I am now on 50mg of levothyroxine sodium. Recently I have developed a itchy red rash and it keeps on spreading! Please help! Is this an affect of levothyroxine? I am definitely against using any dry food for dogs, and even more so for dogs suffering from kidney problems. Kidney dogs are already dehydrated (almost invariably so), and the long term use of dry foods (even with adequate pre-soaking) causes chronic dehydration to set in.
So, my opinion only ... stop using the dry food.
If you want to try canned kd foods, then that would be fine.
s use levothyroxine rather than thyroxine in their thyroid medications? I have noticed that the levothyroxine has a sodium atom, heavier molar wieght and different structural formula. Isomers are known not to function like the parent compound. So why levothyroxine and not thyroxine in thyroid meds?

I am taking Levothyroxine Sodium every morning, on an empty stomach. I know I am not to take the medicine with drinks such as orange juice, but rather take it with water. My question is, can I add Mio, calorie-free water enhancer to my water and get the same results as taking the medicine with plain water? It's easier for me to drink more water if I add the flavoring.
Levothyroxine sodium is unstable in the presence of light, temperature, air, and humidity. Unless the manufacturing process can be carefully and consistently controlled, levothyroxine sodium products may not be fully potent through the labeled expiration date, or be of consistent potency from lot to lot.
