Hey I have been taking Tirosint for 3 months and I have had terrible side effects. I have lost so much more hair, I have broken out in hives, major headaches, memory loss, confusion, major depression, weight gain, on and on. I was taking armor before this and I had a lot less side effects. I felt so much better but the med world doesn't want to support armor for some reason so they fight against us taking it.

This is not a side effect of Levothyroxine. What could be happening is the medication for thyroid may not be balancing the thyroid out correctly and throwing off other hormones causing this issue. My thought would be to ask for a full round of tests. Thyroid FT3 and FT4, FSH/LH - DHEA, A1C and your metobolic panel labs.

Apparently side effects will subside over two weeks when taking levothyroxine, or it could be that he's started you on to high a dose.

05mg of levothyroxine to start with. i have read about alot of side affects and am worried about the hair loss and weight gain the most. anyone on this medication and can give me some feedback that would be great. i am already overweight, at 170 now i have gained almost 40 lbs in 4 years. my left eye is also larger than my right, she said it will get better with time. somehow i have a hard time believing that, it has been this way since last september. thanks, michelle Please help!

s not a thyroid medication; nor is it usually used as a weight loss aid. There are adverse side effects.

the first two you listed are for weight loss and i dont think your supposed to really combine them

Also, thyroid meds by themselves seldom cause weight loss. Having levels normalized simply ALLOWS you to lose weight...you still have to diet and exercise. Normalizing levels can be a lengthy process since meds changes are not stabilized until 4-6 weeks after starting or changing dose. You have to wait that long between each dosage change. It's a process we've all been through...it's not a lot of fun...but it gets a little better all the time.

m afraid that the decreasing hemoglobin and gaining weight DESPITE of my diet control are the side-effects of prolong intake of this medicines. Do i need to refer it with my Endocrinologist? so that she will change my medicines? , because according to her its a life-time intake of medicines...please advise!!

I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. Before I began taking Synthroid, I experienced extreme numbness in my fingers and toes, a huge *HUGE* weight gain, lethargy, depression, and hair loss (to name a few). You didn't say how long you have been taking the medication nor how much weight you have gained. I began gaining weight about 7 years ago and then gained over 70 lbs during my last pregnancy (compared to the 25 lbs I gained with the first two).

Adverse effects of thyroid hormones are generally associated with excessive dosage and may not be apparent for several days after levothyroxine administration.
