Avatar m tn I got my test results for my thyroid disorder as follows: TSH Value:6.28 (H) Ref Range: 0.35-5.50 ulU/mL Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody Value: 1582 (H) Ref Range: 0-35 IU/mL Can someone please explain to me what this means? Thank you.
Avatar f tn The TSH is the best indicator of levothyroxine replacement therapy. The low TSH you mention means that you are on too much levothyroxine and the dose should likely be decreased to 175 µg.
Avatar f tn I was recently prescribed 0.025 levothyroxine and my hypothyroid symptoms seem to be getting worse. Is that normal when starting on a low dose? The only thing I am worried about is my heart. It feels weird, kinda like a tightness and my pulse is lower then normal. I am also getting pain in my upper back. I had these issues before starting the medication but seems to be getting worse and starting to be paranoid. Should i stop taking it? My appointment isn't for another three weeks.
Avatar n tn Immediate intitiation of thyroid hormone (levothyroxine) is necessary at a full replacement dose (usually 2mcg/pound, sometimes more for pregnancy) and recheck levels to confirm it is not a lab error. Would discuss with your OBGYN and consider endocrine consult as well. Sometimes we send women to "high-risk" OB for more thorough evaluation in these cases.
Avatar m tn No - thyroid replacement hormones are the only way you can treat hypothyroidism. These can be either synthetic, such as Synthroid, Levothyroxine, etc or desiccated, such as Armour, ERFA, NatureThroid, etc.
Avatar f tn 7.1 (0.2-4.2), FT3: 8.3 (3.9-6.7) and FT4: 21.4 (12-22) Whilst waiting for these results I have been getting problems with my hands - they go white, stiff, numb and painful when out in the cold. Other hypo symptoms are still there but the cold hands is a problem for me, even when I'm wearing thick gloves. But I must be on enough Levothyroxine if my results say so.
548668 tn?1394187222 Thanks so much for your wise advice over the 18 months; you really helped with confirmation of RAI, Toxic nodules, carbimazole and now, thyroxine. This site is a Godsend; thanks.
Avatar m tn The doctor put me on Levothyroxine, and now after 3 and a half months, I have indigestion approximately 3 times a week, bloated stomach, and balance problems. Why should I take this medication when before I started taking it, I had no symtoms? Can I stop taking this medication? I'm thinking that perhaps I was born with this thyroid problem, and it was not a problem until I started taking the medication.
Avatar f tn of 08 i have been taking cytomel 50mcg and levothyroxine 125mcg every morning. What am i doing wrong? Please help me lose the weight..Give me some ideas.
Avatar n tn I think everyone is different on how they react to medications. I have been on Levothyroxine for about 15yrs, and only started having IC problems about 9 months ago. I guess basically putting it, no I have never heard of it. You could ask your pharmacist.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the time line of events that would occur if a total thyroidectomy person stops taking levothyroxine? I want to understand this condition, but can't seem to find this information. Thanks everyone.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism is most commonly treated with a prescribed thyroid hormone replacement. Levothyroxine, mentioned above (a common brand name is Synthroid) is probably the most commonly prescribed of this type of medication. As was alluded to, an endocrinologist is best equipped to assess your husband's condition, but sometimes even internists or family practitioners are willing to prescribe thyroid hormone.
3210078 tn?1345661059 I am Hypothyroid i was diagnosed with this a year and a half ago and they still havnt regulated my thyroid level with Levothyroxine so i switched to these pills thet my dad bought for my at a health food store named Raw Thyroid by Natural Souces Co. 6297360 tn?1380222919 Thyrotropin Suppression by Thyroid Hormone Replacement Is Correlated With Thyroxine Level Normalization In Central Hypothyroidism. Thyroid 2002 Sep;823-7 “Plotting measurements of TSH against FT4 for 6 individuals with central hypothyroidism showed different regression slope for each patient. Suppression of TSH by thyroid replacement to levels below .1 mU/L predicted euthyroidism in 92% of cases, compared to 34% when TSH was above 1 mU/L (p< .0001).
Avatar m tn I had a goiter on my thyroid gland and the endocrinologist removed 99% of my thyroid. I have been on synthroid and levothyroxine since then. I have discontinued the use of the meds for about a month or 2. I am concerned about weight loss /weight gain and other health issues. I have been told that you cannot live without a thyroid or the replacement meds. Was wondering if anyone had luck with the natural herbs.
Avatar f tn Levothyroxine is thyroid replacement medication. What did you want to replace it with? The only real side effects from levo are symptoms of being hyper, though some people can react to fillers/binders in the medication. Please post your current thyroid blood tests, along with reference ranges, which vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report. Also, please list your symptoms. This will help members better assess your situation and comment more fully.
2041076 tn?1329881359 If you truly have low thyroid function, the most important thing now is to determine the cause of it and get it effectively treated with replacement therapy. Once that is accomplished, starting with low dose replacement therapy, you may find that your other symptoms resolve as well. Having “no medical” is a major problem, but I urge you to find a way to get the thyroid condition evaluated and treated.
Avatar f tn The aim of this study was to determine the best formula to determine the initiated replacement dose of levothyroxine immediately following total thyroidectomy. DESIGN: Prospective study. All patients were initiated on 100 μg levothyroxine and titrated to within the reference range for TSH and free T4. Correlations to height, weight, age, lean body mass (LBM), body surface area (BSA) and body mass index (BMI) were calculated.
Avatar f tn Replacement with thyroid hormone (levothyroxine) supplies all that is needed from a thyroid standpoint. This needs to be monitored with labs at least 1-2 x / year. Would consult with a pediatric endocrinologist to evaluate the child to ensure there are no other considerations.
Avatar f tn I was put on Levothyroxine after the surgery as well as calcium and calcitriol. I was wondering if anyone has any advice. I've been "off" since my surgery and starting meds. I'm definitely not tired any more but I feel foggy and off. I have no other health issues. I've read a lot of horror stories about Levothyroxine and thyriod meds in general.
Avatar n tn You certainly need thyroid replacement. Standard care is with levothyroxine - the 0.05mg tablets are dye free so an allergy is unusual (but obviously not impossible). Options would be to keep "fine tuning" armour or try a brand such as levoxyl but stay w/ the dye free tablets (ie 2 of the 0.5mg) -- but this must be done with your doctor as this type of management is beyond the scope of the practice.
