Levothyroxine or levoxyl

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine or levoxyl

synthroid

Avatar f tn I will probably either go back to taking my Nutri Thyroid at an increased dose or try Levoxyl. Has anybody got any experience with this drug or Evotrox Liquid ?? Thanks for any help and advice you can give me. AquarianGlory This discussion is related to Levothyroid and mood swings.
7074596 tn?1387754708 Yes, Levoxyl is the same as Levothyroxine which is the generic name . Synthroid is the Brand name for Levothyroxine. So it is the same drug.
Avatar f tn There's very little to react to in Tirosint. 50 mcg Synthroid is white, and has no dyes, but it does have fillers. I'm not sure if 50 mcg Levoxyl has no dyes or not...I'm sure their website would tell you. Also, I don't know if the generic 50 mcg are similarly dye-free. If they dyes are a problem for you, you can always take 1.5 50 mcg tablets or two, depending on the total dose you're trying to achieve.
7991152 tn?1396061810 If your doctor has switched you from a brand name levothyroxine – such as Synthroid – to a generic version, you may experience symptoms of too much medication or not enough medication." Excerpt from About article: Levothyroxine: Is there a difference between brand name and generic versions?
168348 tn?1379357075 Would like to hear more about what others take and how they "like" or "dislike" it compared to Levoxyl. My endo had me on levoxyl because we tried levotyroxine (generic) for a year after my TT and my levels were up and down the whole time. (He says it's due to the various fillers used in the generic from the various makers). Which means I need to look at another type of med all together. (Armour, synthroid, etc,) Have an apt.
Avatar f tn Both Levoxyl and Synthroid are listed as separate brands. If you go to good RX it does not list a generic for Levoxyl. Synthroid of course is levothyroxin as it’s generic. There Hass to be a difference between the two drugs, I was told to get off the medication and have awful insomnia when I was trying to switch between the two and had a dose increase and I’m highly sensitive to medications in general.
Avatar n tn Help I have been on levoxyl (137mcg) for the last month and 1/2. Previous to that Leoxyl 150mcg for 3mo. Been going from dose to dose for last 2 years. I am still tired, cold feet, cold hands, moody, puffy, depressed, just to name a few. Considering Armour?. Is there a possible this could do the trick or should I stay with levoxyl? All my test show "normal" so of course the Dr. is comfortable with what I am on., but I AM NOT NORMAL. Any suggestions?
1139187 tn?1355706647 First of all, you cannot confuse Levoxyl with levothyroxine. Levoxyl is a brand name drug. If you are prescribed Levoxyl, you get the same drug from the same company (King Pharmaceuticals) just like you get Synthroid from Abbott Labs every time if you are prescribed Synthroid. If you are prescribed levothyroxine, you get the generic version from whichever manufacturer your pharmacy feels like buying from Note the brand names it the following link: http://www.medicinenet.
Avatar n tn what levothyroxine from which pharmaceutical company is closest in compound to Levoxyl?
Avatar f tn it states to take levothyroxine (which what the brand Levoxyl is) 4 hours apart from iron supplements. The reason for the separation is that supplements can absorb the med before your body has a chance to, thus voiding its benefit. Food can do the same thing but the separation time on that only needs to be at least 1 hour. Good luck.
393685 tn?1425812522 I take Levoxyl, a form of levothyroxine, as is Synthroid and several other name brand T4 products.
Avatar f tn s not usually the levothyroxine (the active ingredient in replacement thyroid hormone medications) that causes people to have trouble taking them. Typically, the problem is fillers, binders or dyes. There are a number of manufacturers of Levothyroxine and each one uses different ingredients, except for the levo, itself. For instance, Synthroid uses acacia and corn starch, either of which bothers many people... I didn't do well on Synthroid, but I do well on Levoxyl.
Avatar f tn Just curious if there is a difference with the 2 meds. I take 125 mcg Levothyroxine now. Dr switched me to Synthroid...would the dosage stay the same? Thanks!
280485 tn?1249013844 Ok, FINALLY, I got my endo to perscribe Synthroid in place of the Levothyroxine, and take me off of the Cytomel. Hopefully my temporary (I'd like to think!) "idiocy", will subside... :-0 My question is: I was on 137mcg Levothyroxine and 25mcg Cytomel. He perscribed 175 mcg Synthroid, and of course, I am to discontinue the Cytomel. Are the two meds Levo and Synthroid, similar as far as how much you need?
Avatar n tn For the last year or two I have been having side effects from my Levothyroxine. Insomnia, flushing, muscle pain, fatique, mood swings, etc. I have always had problems taking any drugs. I seem to be pretty sensitive to them. What would you suggest taking for hypothyroidism that won't give me problems? What is everyone else taking?
Avatar f tn If I get itchy from that too, then it probably is that I slowly developed an allergy to the levothyroxine. I will then try levoxyl which I understand is throxine (not levothyroxine??). Anyways, I will start off with the other compound pharmacy (with only T4 along with either tapioca powder, rice flour or potato starch which all three are natural fillers.
Avatar f tn Levoxyl is NOT generic levothyroxine. Levoxyl is another brand name, just like Synthroid, but from a different manufacturer. Were you on Levoxyl or generic levothyroxine? If you are prescribed Levoxyl, it's just like being prescribed Synthroid, and it always comes from the same manufacturer. If you are prescribed generic levo, the pharmacy can change its supplier at any time, and you do not know where your next refill is coming from.
404389 tn?1217030704 Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Unithroid. Be careful though. They are the same main ingredient but use different "binders". Personally I cannot take the generic and only do well on the Synthroid - others are quite opposite. You will find many of us out here who swear by a particular brand (or the generic) and refuse to switch because of bad experiences. If you are going to switch, talk to your endo first so your labs can be monitored.
Avatar n tn Those are very common symptoms of Hyperthyroidism , you need to lower you Levothyroxine dose , i also suggest to discuss your doctor to prescribe you brand medicine for thyroid like Levoxyl or Synthyroid which has less filler as compare to generic one. How long have you been in thyroid condition. Does your muscles aches and soreness started after doing little but of work ?
Avatar m tn Certain foods, including walnuts, can interfere with the absorption of Synthroid, as well at other replacement thyroid hormones, such as Levothyroxine, Levoxyl, etc. The recommendation is to separate these foods from the medication by 2-4 hrs. Of course, it would depend on how many walnuts one is eating, but if there's proper separation there shouldn't be any trouble with absorption. Most medication pamphlets don't have some of these specific cautions on them.
Avatar n tn We're all having to deal with it. Levoxyl was recalled to the retail level, so the shelves were emptly as soon as the recall was published. They are saying that it could be 2014 before it's back. Different manufactureres use different fillers (inactive ingredients) in their tablets, and people are sometimes allergic or sensitive to them. Brand name Tirosint is a gelcap with water as the only filler, so it's hypoallergenic. You could ask your doctor about that.
Avatar m tn I would think your test results would dictate if the generics are good for you or not, everyone is different with thyroid meds, some do well on generics (Levothyroxine) and some do better on name brand (Synthroid) I was on Levo for the first six months after I was diagnosed with Hashi's, After the 6 mo. I still felt the same symptoms and my TSH stayed at the same level, I asked my Endo.
Avatar n tn My life body and health was so much better than the levothyroxine. Levoxyl was a lot better. I lost weight from it and felt good energy but when I moved to another state it was hard finding a good endo dr. I was prescribed Levothyroxine which made me even more tired I never felt good slept throughout the day. I'm going back on levoxyl and CVS always had a better grade of it.
