I noticed on your discussion board that the latter is a generic. Now, what I would like to know is which is the best medicine I should be taking and how should I approach my Endocrinologist for a change in prescription.

How soon after ceasing taking Levothyroxine would the level show in the blood stream? My TSH came back at 1.189 after being off Levothyroxine for 48 hours. Is this result of the remaining Levothyroxine in my body or a fairly true 'natural' TSH level?
I was diagnosed with Graves Disease 7 years ago and had radiation on thyroid that killed too much so I'm on levothyroxine 88 MCG. My question is - Would I gain weight if I only took half my pill daily? I only weigh 92 pounds and need to gain weight.
Hi! I was diagnosed for the first time with hypothyroid in February of this year.
My doctor started me on 150 MCG of levothyroxine.
I went nuts. My mind was racing, my heart was racing, I could not function without paranoia and anxiety took over, I had the feeling I was going to DIE.
I did alot of research, and I went to my doctor after 7 days of levo and said, I CANNOT CONTINUE THIS. I demanded to try synthroid.
I started taking levothyroxine as my doctor thinks I could be developing hypothyroidism. I have taken it now for two days, is it normal to feel fluish symptoms and have headaches/achy feeling? If so how long can I expect it to last.
If you do not need the levothyroxine, you certainly do not need Cytomel. There is no special procedure for stopping your Levothyroxine. You just stop.
If the doctor tells you to, that is.
If you have hypothyroidism and you get your levels adjusted properly with medication, that does not mean you are healed and can stop the med. If your thyroid resumes function to the point that you do not need levothyroxine, you will know because the medication will drive you hyper.
I recently started taking levothyroxine (100 mcg).
I posted on 6/17/2015 regarding my concerns over having had one episode of AFib and being concerned with the levothyroxine causing another episode. The only TSH info I had at that time was that my level was 5.6. This was taken on 5/7/2015. I just received my lab results in the mail for blood work done on 6/11/2015. She ordered at Free T3 and T4 screening on this one. In my last post you requested the results. There was no ferritin tested and my vitamin D is ok.
I was just put on this thyroid medicine and now I have gained weight, more than I have ever gained. I am not sure I really need to be on this medicine.
Here are my test results T3 uptake 29.0, T4 5.8, T7 1.7, TSH 5.
Those are very common symptoms of Hyperthyroidism , you need to lower you Levothyroxine dose , i also suggest to discuss your doctor to prescribe you brand medicine for thyroid like Levoxyl or Synthyroid which has less filler as compare to generic one. How long have you been in thyroid condition. Does your muscles aches and soreness started after doing little but of work ?
Is synthroid and levothyroxine the exact same ? My Doctor ,mistakenly,changed me from levothyroxine to synthroid,same dosage. After taking it for 3 days,I have been itching really bad. Is there a connection between my itching and the change in medicine ?

My doctor seemed very surprised by the increase in TSH, and has switched my medicine from generic levothyroxine to Synthroid to see if my body will respond. She also has suggested an ultrasound if my thyroid gland stays swollen. Why wouldn't my body be responding to the medicine? Would you suggest seeing an endocrinologist at this point?
She rechecked his blood and discovered Hashimoto and changed the meds to levothyroxine 0.88mcg. He was feeling ok with the synthroid and now after 4 days of the levothyroxine he feels extremely exhausted and feels as if he is hallucinating (sp) during the day on several occasions. Bad dreams too. Any suggestions. He cannot even go to school today he is so tired.
i am on levothyroxine for about 5yrs and i have severe ringing ,roaring and hear other weird noises i was wondering if it was coming from this medicine tryed going off my other meds for a while except this one and nothing changed what would happen if i stopped taking this medicine
I've been reading the previous discussion about generic vs branded medicine as it relates to hypothyroidism. I am on Levothyroxin and need to know if it's the same as Levothyroxine.

I do not know what these last results were, but my PCP put me on 25 mcg of levothyroxine (after the results of this last test). I had a bout with AFib last year (just the one time) and they think it was caused by anxiety. One of the side effects of the levothyroxine is irregular heartbeat. I called he doctor's office and was told by the nurse that it is highly unlikely that I would have any problems on such a small dose. Is this considered a small dose? I took the first pill today.
I have been taking Levothyroxine for 3 years. At that point I started having diarrhea. My doctor said that diarrhea was not a side effect of this medicine, and that I must be gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant. So for years I've been changing my diet, with no steady results. Whatever I ate, or did not eat, I still had diarrhea. So as a last resort, I stopped taking levothyroxine three days ago. I feel great !! I have so much energy and guess what? NO diarrhea !!!
my husband found out he had hypothrodism in january of 2013 he started on levothyroxine in febuary . He started at 25mcg then up to 50mcg then 100mcg his last blood test his levels were at 6.28 so they raised it to 125mcg .. before he started the medicine he had lots of energy was always in a good mood we never had a fight ..

I checked for drug interaction between Synthroid (levothyroxine) and nortriptyline, but there is only minor interaction reported.
However, a potentially life threatening condition called serotonin syndrome may occurred with nortriptyline, either taken alone or with MAOIs (or monoamine oxidase inhibitors) and/or other serotonergic drugs, such as triptans, tricyclic antidepressants, tramadol, and etc.
My TSH level is 99.97. The doctor prescribed .150 of Levothyroxine. Do you think this is too high to begin with? I have been on the medicine for 10 days. I am feeling a little jittery and my BP seems to be going up a little. Thank you.
Does anyone take Levothyroxine and if so, what do you think of it? I have heard different things. The doctor just got me started on meds and this is what he wrote.

I finally after ten years of being treated with levothyroxine because my tsh was high at times, begain going into a-fib and ending up at er's to be converted. It is now determined that the excessive levothyroxine I'd been taking was triggering it. I've just begun to see and endocrinologist who had my pituitary gland scanned by an MRI and a small tumor was detected.
