Levothyroxine lactose

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine lactose

synthroid

Avatar n tn So, this time, the pharmacist thought that the allergic reaction might be due to lactose as I am lactose intolerant, and the dyes in the medication. (Artificial colors.) He gave me Levothyroxine 25 MCG and told me to break it in half. This medication is lactose free and dye free. This time again, I had the same allergic reaction except for the sore throat because I only took it once. Last time it started with the same thing. Since I continued for nine days, I ended up with a sore throat too.
Avatar f tn Since then my thyroid levels have never stabilised despite the T3 helping and the endo switched me to lactose free levothyroxine which has done nothing but given me upset stomach, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. If I go back to the lactose containing levothyroxine I run the risk of having suboptimal thyroid levels - this was what my endo said at the time and continuing hypothyroid symptoms.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Levothyroxine for 3 years. At that point I started having diarrhea. My doctor said that diarrhea was not a side effect of this medicine, and that I must be gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant. So for years I've been changing my diet, with no steady results. Whatever I ate, or did not eat, I still had diarrhea. So as a last resort, I stopped taking levothyroxine three days ago. I feel great !! I have so much energy and guess what? NO diarrhea !!!
Avatar n tn I reacted to synthroid and the generic form as well because they both contain lactose (I am lactose intolerant) and acacia. Acacia fillers in meds for people with severe allergies like myself is not a good idea. I researched all the meds and found that Levoxyl does not contain these fillers and have been switched. My advice to you is research, research and more research. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Is synthroid and levothyroxine the exact same ? My Doctor ,mistakenly, changed me from levothyroxine to synthroid, same dosage. After taking it for 3 days,I have been itching really bad. Is there a connection between my itching and the change in medicine ? This discussion is related to Synthroid versus generic levothyroxine (I have Hashimoto's).
Avatar f tn Are you lactose intolerant? I ask that because some of the T4 meds do use lactose as part of the filler material. In view of those hypo symptoms, have you gone back to your regular daily dosage?
Avatar f tn Are you aware that the manufacturer of Synthroid and Lannet, a manufacturer of generic levothyroxine state that acacia is a filler and can cause an allergic reaction? There is also lactose and many do not realize this. I have been coughing for 18 years after starting on this hormone and seen countless of doctors and all stated nothing to do with the medication..that I have allergies.
Avatar f tn I have a TSH level of 7, high antibodies and my Dr. has diagnosed Hashimoto's, but has told me she'll take another blood test in six months. Because I've commenced menopause and feel terrible ( severe fatigue, diarrhea, unhappy) I went to another doctor who did further tests (I can't find the results - that's menopause!!!) and she said I needed to start Throxine, even though the other dr, didn't mention it. I am so confused!!!
Avatar f tn If I get itchy from that too, then it probably is that I slowly developed an allergy to the levothyroxine. I will then try levoxyl which I understand is throxine (not levothyroxine??). Anyways, I will start off with the other compound pharmacy (with only T4 along with either tapioca powder, rice flour or potato starch which all three are natural fillers.
Avatar n tn My maintenance meds incluce levothyroxine 100 ug o.d., Rocaltrol and calcium calactate. I used to take lots of milk but developed lactose intolerance now :( I also was diagnosed with GERD so currently take pantoprazole for 8 weeks. My main concern is I am due for my total body scans soon and need to starve for six weeks or so for my levothyroxine dose and at the same time, I am currently preparing for my medical licensure exams. Am I to postpone my scans after the boards?
Avatar f tn re correct that Levoxyl and Synthroid are separate brands of thyroid medication. Levothyroxine is the active ingredient for both of them; the difference is the inactive ingredients (fillers/binders and dyes) they each contain. Levothyroxine is also the generic for all brands of T4 medications. Inactive ingredients in Synthroid are: acacia, confectioner's sugar, D&C Red No. 27 & D&C Red No. 30, FD&C Blue No. 1, lactose, magnesium stearate, povidone, and talc.
Avatar f tn Doc said Ribivarin can bring out illnesses that have remained dormant (for lack of medical term). Now on Levothyroxine 25mg for life. But I will say this has helped so much with the fatigue. I already am suffering from Anemia so fatigue is my enemy! Week 9 of Procrit (40,000) and 2 transfusions...ugh! In addition I was a little lactose inolerent prior to treatment, now I'm full blown and looking at a carton of yogurt gives me a stomach ache.
Avatar f tn My husband is lactose intolerant, and that happens to him. Plus it gives him stomach cramps. Try almond or soy milk.
Avatar f tn i have lactose intolerance and i am on a diet where i cant eat anything with milk not even if thrs just a little milk in a cookie recipe but lately i have been feeling like throwing up after i take lactaide if i go out i take it i feel like i have the flew but its off and on
1263014 tn?1318032697 He has had other patients with the same problems, so one night he took the inactive ingredient lists home from both types and did and entire spread sheet with fillers and possible reactions and side effects. For example, some contain lactose and if a patient is lactose intolerant that may cause a reaction. One cheap filler that is famous for reactions is talc and is used in most OTC drugs. It Is rare he says, but does happen.
Avatar m tn It is possible, Thyroid meds are funny, what works well for one does not work well for others, I was on (Generic) Levothyroxine for six months and my labs did not budge, then went to Synthroid (brand Name) and had better sucess, my endo claimed that generics were not as consistant as name brand. Pharmacy said they are the same? So the change may have made a difference, some times the fillers they use can cause issues also.
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing gas/bloating after I take my Synthroid and wonder if I might be reacting to the lactose in the filler. Has anyone had a better experience with Levoxyl? Thank you.
Avatar m tn I meant have you tried any changes to your diet (like avoiding lactose) to see if it helps. Have you tried eating more fiber? What medications did you try?
Avatar f tn Had been taking levothyroxine for years and had no idea that the horrifically debilitating mental and physical symptoms I've been experiencing were due to levothyroxine usage/ingestion; and taken off levothyroxine Sat. after much protesting re same. I'm currently not on anything! Will see doc 9/11. Heard not good idea to take N.D.T. (natural desiccated thyroid) gland rx ie Naturethroid, Armour, etc. due to possible autoimmune response by N.D.T. (pig).
Avatar f tn Hi Skin rash is a rare side effect of thyroid medication. This may be caused by the levothyroxine in the tablet or by any of the ingredients in the tablets like acacia powder, corstarch, lactose, magnesium stearate, gluten and tartrazine or maybe others in various combination. You can take a scratch test or intradermal test for the ingredients of the tablet. In all likelihood, you are allergic to the other components of the tablet besides the hormone.
Avatar n tn heheh I was taking 60mg (4x daily) of methadone for almost 8 years for a back problem.. About 2 years ago I was given blood tests that led to my taking Levothyroxine 150mcg for my thyroid. I have since improved my back and have now been off the methadone for about 3 months now. Since quitting the methadone Ivenoticed several positive improvements (can exercise more, sleep sounder, think clearer, and am losing weight, just to name a few)...
Avatar n tn The FDA has determined that generic Levothyroxine and brand-name Synthroid and Levoxyl are equivalent. The FDA requires all drugs, both brand-names and their generic counterparts, to be proven safe and effective. Since generics use the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body as their brand-name counterparts, they also have the same risks and benefits. From my re/search, I have found the Levoxyl has the least inactive ingredients.
Avatar f tn There are a couple of good threads regarding Tirosint. I've been on it since August and doing great with it. You're right, the only ingredients are levothyroxine sodium, gelatin, glycerin and water. There are no known side effects to the medication, which is about as hypoallergenic as it can get. Usually when people say they get reactions to thyroid med, it's actually a reaction to being hypo. I've never heard of Tirosint causing muscle cramps; not sure where you read that.
Avatar m tn What is the difference between Tirosint and all the other levothyroxine meds? I am exploring different options, even generic, as long as it works!
7729616 tn?1393795492 Hi there. I'm a 29yr old girl and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in May 2013 but diagnosed with Hashimoto's in Jan this year. I currently receive Levothyroxine but am not doing very well on it. I have been signed off by my doctor for 3 weeks as having "anxiety symptoms" - which is partially true as I get OCD, depression, mood swings, trouble sleeping etc. but I have put that down to my illness.
172023 tn?1334672284 A lactose free diet means eating foods that have no lactose. Lactose is a sugar that is a normal part of milk products. Some people do not break down lactose well. They may not have enough lactase, the enzyme that breaks lactose down in the body. Or, their body may make lactase that does not work properly. This may cause gas, bloating, cramping, or diarrhea when they eat or drink milk products. Following a lactose free diet may prevent these problems.
