Levothyroxine insomnia

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine insomnia

synthroid

Avatar f tn I don't know about Canada, but there's generic levothyroxine and Levoxyl here, just to name a couple. Some people seem to have negative reactions to some of the fillers in the drugs, so changing brands can be helpful. Smilerdeb is correct - Cytomel is T3 only; Synthroid, Levoxyl and generic levothyroxine are T4 only. The problem with taking T3 only is that it is very fast-acting and doesn't stay in your system for very long.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Levothyroxine for a year and it has caused me lots of problems. Firstly it has given me unbearable insomnia as a side effect.I was sure it was the tablets causing it because every time i put my dose up it got much worse and when i was on a lower dose it wasn't as bad. I feel as if i'm being forced awake and i can't even shut my eyes. And the worst thing is that my sleep is SO light!
Avatar n tn Follow up labs confirmed TSH and TPO antibodies, Free T3 and T4 both normal. I had no symptoms and felt generally healthy. Started on 50 mcg Levothyroxine. Retest 6 weeks later showed TSH 1.3, normal Free T4. Everyone very surprised. This week I've started waking up with a racing heartbeat after only a few hours sleep, unable to fall back asleep. I thought I had swung to Hyperthyroid. Retested. TSH is 8. Free T3 and T4 still normal. I may be pre-menopausal...
765572 tn?1234697366 Can you take just Cytomel? I am on levothyroxine and feeling awful. I heard that this generic of Synthroid is actually not the same as Synthroid and that it is not as good. I heard some people have fabulous results on Armour and Cytomel. Why are Dr's so reluctant to prescribe these other meds? I heard Cytomel really helps with fatigue. All I want to do is sleep, it's awful.

Avatar m tn I'm guy with Hashi's and I've got a bit of confusing situation with my levothyroxine meds. I've been on it for about 15 yrs, started at 65mcg, went up as high as 125mcg but am currently as 100mcg. The problem is I've had trouble with insomnia since I started, no matter the dose and the only way I can get any sleep is with doxylamine succinate and melatonin.
Avatar f tn I have had hypothyroidism for about a year-and-a-half and have been on 50 mg of Levothyroxine. I was stupid and stopped taking my levothyroxine when I had a sinus infection in the middle of September, which is when I think all of this was triggered. Can anyone give me their symptoms so I feel okay about mine LOL I keep fluctuating between hyper and hypo and I'm freaking out. Palpitations, high pulse, jittery, nauseous, anxiety through the roof, insomnia etc etc.
Avatar n tn For the first 13 years I was on 100MCG of levothyroxine. I got this reduced 2 years ago due to increasing insomnia, anxiety, some hair loss, eating a lot but not gaining any weight... I feel so much better but I still have some anxiety and insomnia (although not nearly as badly as before). I am wondering - could I stop taking this medication altogether? Supposedly I am taking it so that the other side of my thyroid doesn't enlarge from overproduction. Is this an actual concern?
Avatar f tn About 3 months later (in October of 2007) my metabolism went through the roof, and I lost around 15 lbs (got down to about 115 lbs), and began to show symptoms of HYPERthyroidism (had insomnia for about 6 weeks, night sweats, increased bowel movements, nervousness). However, I was also experiencing a lot of emotional stress at the time, and my eating habits were not good (was not eating enough).
Avatar f tn I went to see my doctor yesterday and she increased the dose to 50 mcg, but I am a bit concerned about this because I remember reading somewhere that if you start taking levothyroxine you have to be on it for the rest of your life (the article said meds could make your thyroid work even less, I'm wondering if this is true).
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with low thyroid back in January and my iodine is low as well. I have extreme difficulty staying asleep and I think I may have some anxiety disorder-- I worry a lot ( to the point that people don't tell me things because they are afraid to make my worry more) and feel very uncomfortable at the prospect of social gatherings. I'm wondering if these things could all be related.
Avatar f tn tremors, shaky legs, palpitations, insomnia, hoarsness and recently a bit of trouble swallowing my food down. Am a bit concerned. Thank you.
1218579 tn?1267638816 Hx: TT as of 2/4 RAI 131 103mci dose 2/24 TSH 68 on LID. After RAI labs now "normal" now but not low enough for post Cancer patient. Currnet dose of levothyroxine is .10 low but everytime we increase my heart races. Prior TT ADD diagnosis a year ago successfully took ritalin and prozac for about one year no problems. Dr. took me of Ritalin cold turkey buceasue they said they didnt know what was causing my elevated heart rate and anxiety.
Avatar f tn Started on Friday on levothyroxine, 50mg. the first day and all four days have had severe headache; the pain goes into the back of my neck. In addition, I am dizzy; not 100% of the time, but most often when getting up suddenly, or moving around. The doctor told me to stop taking the Rx for four days and see if the symptoms stop. They seem to be dissipating after a day. What is different in the generic to the brand name that causes more reactions in people, and are mine common.
Avatar f tn In addition, there has been a shortage of Armour lately and the formula has changed in the pill, so my DR wrote me an RX for cytomel 5mcg twice in the AM and levothyroxine 0.05MG one in the AM as a back up ( in case I cant get my Armour RX filled ) Is it OK to switch from Armour to the cytomel/levothyroxine and is the dosage equivalent ? I notice when I take my Armour, I feel very hot/warm and somewhat irritable afterwards for a few hours. Is that a normal side effect?
1471017 tn?1300570960 I am 3 weeks post TT and have been taking 150mcg of Levothyroxine for 2 weeks now. I am wanting to switch from a.m. to p.m. and wondering if anyone else takes theirs at night and if that works okay. I did not take it this morning so I could make the switch this evening.
Avatar f tn My lab results were normal, the doctor put me on levothyroxine sodium 25mcg, i searched on the web that levo is for hypo patients. If my lab results were normal I am not a hypo or hyper, For what is levo? And the doctor asked me to return after 30days of taking levo, im just wondering if i have to undergo again with those blood test? my first test were normal.
Avatar n tn Can levothyroxine cause my skin to burn?
Avatar f tn Hi Goolarra, Are you currently using Levoxyl? My Doc put me on it and then switched me because of insomnia but I am now wondering if the insomnia was just due to the fact that I was starting to treat the hypothyroidism?
Avatar n tn Hello All, For those of you who have made the switch from Synthroid/Cytomel combo to Tirosint: I was on originally on 50mcg of Synthroid (not feeling well at all) so added 5mcg Cytomel (feel better with a little T3) but not great (think it is the binders/filler in Synthroid). Just started on 50mcg of Tirosint (on it for 4 days) and am having insomnia. I haven't even added my 5mcg of Cytomel yet for fear of worse insomnia/hyper symptoms. Should we have started me at 25mcg of Tirosint?
Avatar f tn Hi, Hashimoto's for 18 years. Fluctuating TSH and on different Levothyroxine doses (never based on FT3 or FT4). Last labs: FT4-0.97 FT3-2.2 Taking .112mcg Levothyroxine. Just started Cytomel 5mcg (split in 2 doses am and pm) because I was having intense brain fog, fatigue, lethargy and weight gain. I'm having palpitations, insomnia, headaches and feel pretty anxious while taking Cytomel. The great thing is that brain fog is gone and I have more energy. Let me know what you think.
Avatar f tn Her tsh,3rd generat ( this is how it was listed on the lab sheet) was 52.38. She was taken off of amiodarone due to some heart rate problems and put on levothyroxine starting at 25mcg. Over the course of 3-4 months she had her tsh checked and increases in her levothyroxine ultimately ending with 75mcg daily. Approx 3 wks ago she had a pacemaker placed and is now on betapace 200mg daily in divided doses.
Avatar n tn My pharmacist switched my Synthroid 125mcg to generic, I have noticed a HUGE change ...insomnia, low blood pressure, hyperactivity....has anyone notice this as well? The pharmacist said there would be no difference if I switched to the generic...
Avatar m tn I have been suffering from anxiety, depression and insomnia for the last 6 months. The symptoms have gradually worsened and now include apathy, lack of concentration, chronic fatigue, severe anxiety on waking (almost like night terrors), and periods of cold intolerance, loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing, nausea and diarrhoea. I sometimes also get palpitations.
Avatar n tn muscle aches/pains/twitches, insomnia, constipation, out of sorts/restless/"crazy" feeling spells. I was symptomatic with hypothroidism prior to the surgery. The meds (levothyroxine) releived my symptoms so I am hopeful this will happen once I have the radioiodine treatment for papillary carcinoma found on path results. Good luck! Let me know how it goes with the radioiodine treatment- I don't have an appt to discuss that until July14th.
