Avatar m tn My dog has had hypothyroidism for several years and has been on 0.2 mg of Levothyroxine twice daily ever since. Recently, when they did a check on his T4 they found that it was low and they increased it immediately to 0.4 mg. A week or two later he began to significantly pant and wheeze. Then he decided to give him 150 mg of Theophylline twice daily. Could the thyroid dose change have caused these symptoms or is it a coincidence?
Avatar f tn Dogs that are allergic to Soloxine (levothyroxine sodium) should not take it. It is also not recommended for dogs with Addison's Disease, or an adrenal insufficiency. Use caution and watch for side effects in dogs with high blood pressure. Soloxine should never be used in a pet that has experienced thyrotoxicosis.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Levothyroxine for 3 years. At that point I started having diarrhea. My doctor said that diarrhea was not a side effect of this medicine, and that I must be gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant. So for years I've been changing my diet, with no steady results. Whatever I ate, or did not eat, I still had diarrhea. So as a last resort, I stopped taking levothyroxine three days ago. I feel great !! I have so much energy and guess what? NO diarrhea !!!
Avatar m tn He had been taking 150mg of Levothyroxine for his thyroid and then prescribed sertraline for his anxiety and chest pains. A month after taking the two, he began to suffer from severe panic attacks and then manic and psychotic episodes. He ended up being sectioned to hospital for 3 weeks. The diagnosis was that he had a predisposition to bipolar disorder.. I am strongly convinced that the interaction of the medication prescribed by the doctor.

Avatar f tn I am concerned because I was prescribed Levothyroxine for Hyperthyroidism. Is this the correct medication for me?
Avatar f tn The rule of thumb is to take levo on an empty stomach (no food or drink for 3-4 hours prior) with a full glass of water and then refrain from any other food or drink for 0.5-1 hour after. That's why most people take it fist thing in the morning and delay breakfast a little. Coffee affects absorption as well, but not as much as some foods do, especially fiber. Any other meds or supplements should be taken 3-4 hours away from levo (if at all possible).
Avatar n tn I am to start allergy shots next week. I also found that Acacia is used in the Levothyroxine that I have been taking for the last 15 years or so. I called my Primary Doctors office and they said to keep the appointment for the allergy shots and that there is no alternative to levothyroxine. However I read that Sandoz has pine as filler? Also Mylan brand at Walgrens has no Acacia. Does anyone know about these things?? Thank you in advance!
Avatar f tn If by "conventional treatment" you are referring to levothyroxine, I don't think you have much to fear. It doesn't have side effects the way most other drugs do since it's a synthetic version of a hormone your body should already be making (but isn't making enough of if you have thyroid disease). You might have "side effects" if you take too much, but typically people are started on a low dose which is gradually increased.
Avatar n tn Incase the other food you were feeding had ANY grains: Read this.... Healthy dog foods do not include needless grains and other pet health damaging ingredients. Brewer's rice and brewer's dried yeast are by-products of beer production. There you go, your little pet gets what is left over after a beer run, the stuff not fit for human consumption. Poultry Fat - Used to encourge pets to eat a product the pet would normally not eat. NutriSource does not tell us what type of Poultry.
Avatar f tn the doctor said to do citology, is this necessary?? alsow doctor prescribed me levothyroxine, at first 25 mg, then for 2 weeks 50 mg and then 100 mg ,is this right?
Avatar f tn I have had restless legs, and have a slight rash on neck/chest. The doctor never seems concerned. They focus on the symptoms. I have had a node on thyroid for 10 years, no big deal. Now I have 3 and a lot of symptoms my gp did blood work. free thyroxine index 1.9 t3 uptake 21 thyroxine (t4) 9.1 tsh 1.510 He put me on 50 mcg of levothyroxine. since beginning the Levo I have had multiple problems with digestion and bloating and horrible worse restless leg syndrome.
Avatar f tn they have adjusted my levothyroxine up and down and now I am only on 75 mcg a day and feel better. For the past 3 months I have lost almost all my hair. I shed at least 300 hairs a day and have thin, fine hair to begin with! I went to the doctor for my hair loss and my TSH is 3.5, but he wants me to stop taking levothyrocxine because he thinks it is making my hair loss worse. He also said he is not sure if I needed the medication in the first place...
274158 tn?1276347187 Not towards me. Just other dogs......I thought he was showing aggression towards my daughter, but he was just trying to sniff her crotch! He is gross! I guess that's what dogs do! But, no agression towards us humans, just dogs, which isn't fun....
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with subclinical hyperthyroidism from being given too much levothyroxine for 4 months. I was hospitalized with cardiac symptoms from this due to my mitral valve prolapse and put on beta blockers. I have not had any levothyroxine for 3 weeks and was starting to feel better. My tsh was low and T4 normal last test 2 weeks ago. now doctor wants me to take .
Avatar n tn DOGS CANNOT TAKE DECONGESTANTS!!!! They cannot metabolize them. If your dogs ears are that bad they are in need of antibiotic and antifungals. You can ask your vet to prescribe an antibiotic like cephalexin and an antifungal like fluconazole both which can be called into a walmart in your area and they are on the $4 generic list so it keeps cost down. As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them.
Avatar n tn As far as I'm aware, benadry is safe for quite a long time in dogs. The general doggy dosage is 1 mg/ per pound, so that's what your vet has prescribed - most people tend to go too low on the dosage. Using it for only the summer months should be no problem at all. I had a dog who needed it a good 8 months or more of every year and it never caused any trouble. Hope it works well for your Bostie!
Avatar m tn Are there painkillers for dogs that are safe? Tramadol caused my 11 year old chow chow Emily to have seizures after two days 4 pills and the Rimadyl side effects I just read here are equally as bad. Both were give to her by her vet of six years. If anyone has any ideas please contact me at ***@****. Thank you.

1999385 tn?1327351517 My beautiful 15-year old dachshund passed away on Christmas Day (2011) and he was taking many medications. I had just refilled his Vetoryl (taken for Cushings Disease) and I have about 180 60 mg capsules. I also have Levothyroxine, Denosyl, Phenobarbital, and Pottasium Bromide (30 - 60 days worth). These medications are very expensive and I would hate to throw them away. The Vetoryl and Denosyl are in individually sealed packages, the others are in presciption bottles.
Avatar f tn PLAIN popcorn without butter and salt is an OK snack for dogs, IN MODERATION. A couple of pieces throughout the day as a snack won't hurt him in the least. You don't want to give him popcorn with all the trimmings, though, as it will eventually make him fat, just like it does to us!
