Levothyroxine food interactions

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine food interactions

synthroid

Avatar m tn Likewise, I was never told to avoid taking anything with my levothyroxine besides food and calcium/multivitamin (basically just not at the same time, but I could still have a multivitamin). I've also never had a problem taking benedryl (besides that it knocks me out) or any other drug with my hypothyroid meds. If you're on a drug for your hypothyroidism, there is this nifty tool at the top- under drugs, you can find drug interaction.
Avatar f tn Please contact your local pharmacist, they are very informative, in medication interactions. I have read many mixed reviews on taking thyroid medications. But I would wait an hour or two, before taking a supplement. Until you get a definite answer from your doctor or a pharmacist. Good luck to you !!
393685 tn?1425812522 There has been new information released recently on the use of particular weight loss drugs and the use of Levothyroxine together. The specific weight loss medication is Alli ( which is the brand name for the medication Rx Orlistat) Orlistat is a drug that promotes fat-blocking - taken with meals to help block some of the fat -- and therefore fewer intake of calories -- from meals, and aids in some weight loss.
Avatar m tn Hi Joanne, I took Glucosamine Chondrotin and Synthroid without any problems with interactions. In your position, I would ask the pharmacist selling the meds if both drugs would interfere with each other, just to be sure. I only know you should be careful combining Glucosamine Chondroitin with Coumarins, because it may amplify the anticoagulant effect.
Avatar f tn Ran into an article in the Journal for the American Academy of Family Practitioners published this month, telling doctors that Levothyroxine is the ONLY valid treatment for hypo and to trust the TSH. I called the Academy and was transferred to the editor of the Journal and advised him of the more current articles (that I published here) conducted and published in Europe and now published by the NIH.
Avatar f tn Other medical/psychiatric conditions I have are hypothyroidism and bi-polar disorder/depression for which I take levothyroxine (Synthroid), divalproex (Depakote) and bupropion (Welbutrin). The medication information for the Medrol dose-pack states cautious use in those with hypothyroidism, psychiatric history, being treated with an anti-convulsant, and on bupropion, as it could produce mood changes and affect the seizure threshold.
Avatar m tn It's not that you can't take aspirin at all. All ssris have a warning about interactions with all NSAIDS, not just aspirin. You just have to be aware of bruising that might indicate excessive bleeding. So you have to be careful. Don't know about food interactions, I wasn't told of any. Lots of weight gain possible, however, so watch the fat and sugar and be careful with diet. I think you're thinking more of the MAO inhibitors, they have lots of food contraditions.
Dinosaur Thank you for your question, Yes, it is recommended you take it in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food. Taking levothyroxine with food may cause reduced bioavailability and may lower drug levels leading to signs or symptoms of hypothyroidism. In addition, cottonseed meal, walnuts, and dietary fiber may decrease absorption of levothyroxine from the GI tract.
Avatar n tn I talked with my pharmacist and she said that there would be no problem. So I started taking it, but I should have found out the inert ingredients. The lame pharmaceutical company puts lactose monohydrate in Topomax (I cannot have any caisen/dairy products) and it aggravated my asthma and made me very congested. I get so mad that the pharm companies use ingredients that are in the list of top 10 food allergies.
Avatar f tn There're few web sites that shows "drug interactions", and "drug/herb/food interactions" ...do a search online for words in " ",I am sure you'll find your answers.....if not, please feel free to message me and I'll send you a link.
Avatar f tn I went to see a psychiatrist yesterday and she prescribed the antidepressant Cipralex (Lexapro), which she said I should take in the morning. I've been on Euthyrox (levothyroxine) for a couple of months, so my question is, can I take both medications at the same time, or do I have to take Levothyroxine first and wait a couple of hours before taking my Cipralex pill? Since I should take both meds in the morning, would it be too late to take Cipralex at 11 a.m. (I take my Levothyroxine at 7)?
Avatar f tn IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to keep doctor in the process as it could be disastrous with possible medical interactions or even food interactions such as grape fruit.
Avatar n tn (Experience talking here). Before taking any new medication, it is so important to check interactions with other meds, food and alcohol (which can be found in cough syrups!) I'm allergic to Morphine and there were Morphine dirivitives in one pain medicine that got past the doctor AND the pharmacist, so you really need to trust your gut. If you're questioning it...that's your gut talking.
Avatar f tn I posted on 6/17/2015 regarding my concerns over having had one episode of AFib and being concerned with the levothyroxine causing another episode. The only TSH info I had at that time was that my level was 5.6. This was taken on 5/7/2015. I just received my lab results in the mail for blood work done on 6/11/2015. She ordered at Free T3 and T4 screening on this one. In my last post you requested the results. There was no ferritin tested and my vitamin D is ok.
672514 tn?1265655141 I have bad indigestion, I want to try zantac 150mg any interactions with my meds ?
Avatar m tn I asked the person in chare of the hep c treatment and all i got was you should take Riba with food so grapfruit is ok. I don't think they had a clue.
393419 tn?1228447393 For the 1st hour or so after I take my levothyroxine (synthroid) .175mcg, I get a shaky feeling, as time goes on, it dissipates. . .is this "relatively" normal, or is it something that I should mention to my doctor. I have a list of questions to ask him, but I'm loathe to ask too many silly ones of out of fear of being labeled a difficult or crazy patient. (i like & trust my doctor, but i fear that i'm one nutty question away from the edge.) thanks all!
Avatar m tn He was started on a 50mg dose of levothyroxine . The difference of his over all health was amazing he began to feel hungry again his breathing improved. And he was becoming more active. After about 4_6 weeks he had another repeated blood test done to check his levels and surprisingly the doctor said that his thyroid still was not functioning properly and his dose of levothyroxine was increased to 100mg. This dose made him extremely sick. Bloated . Full of trapped air. Tired and constipated.
Avatar f tn i also take hormones and xanax...i read where alot of my meds have interactions...but pharmisits say its ok.............
Avatar n tn s fine. She also said that they will put me on Block and release therapy (adding levothyroxine to methimazole, if my thyroid hormones will be too low - and NOT decrease from 10mg to 5mg, she said it's too early, they do this after 6 months MAYBE). I did not get my peace of mind so I started to investigate and found that HUANG LIAN herbal mixture COULD potentially affect drug absorbtion due to inhibiting certain Cytochrome P450 subtypes.
