Levothyroxine equivalent

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine equivalent

synthroid

Avatar f tn According to the info, one grain of Armour is about the equivalent of 75 mcg of Synthroid. If you have not been converting T4 to T3 very well, then the grain of Armour could actually have more effect than 75 mcg of Synthroid. So I think it is a good thing that you have started on a conservative dosage of Armour and your should plan to increase the dosage as necessary to relieve your symptoms. Symptom relief should be all important.
4274823 tn?1388529098 How are Synthroid (Levothyroxine) and Eltroxin different? I'm doing my homework because my doctor has recommended Synthroid. I have never heard of Eltroxin until it was mentioned by a pharmacist as an option.
640719 tn?1277140030 5 mg would be roughly equivalent to 50 mcg. However, bear in mind that the two are not really equivalent since T3 and T4 are very different. The chart only offers a place to start, and your starting dose should take that into account along with other factors, like your typical drug tolerance and the fact that T3 sometimes takes a little getting used to. So, your overall dose will be a little on the low side, but I don't think it's an unreasonable place to start.
Avatar f tn Acella Pharmaceutical produces NP Thyroid. Acella is a nickname for NP Thyroid. The NP Thyroid approximate equivalent strength chart conversion: ½ grain = 30mg, 1 grain =60mg, 1 ½ grain = 90mg. NP Thyroid tablets can be swallowed whole or taken sublingually (under the tongue).
Avatar f tn 05MG one in the AM as a back up ( in case I cant get my Armour RX filled ) Is it OK to switch from Armour to the cytomel/levothyroxine and is the dosage equivalent ? I notice when I take my Armour, I feel very hot/warm and somewhat irritable afterwards for a few hours. Is that a normal side effect? I have an enlarged pituitary and enlarged pituitary stalk , which is monitored by MRI yearly.
Avatar m tn I am taking levothyroxine 88 mcg for 10 days. I started out taking a half a pill for 8 days. I was lost a total of 5 lbs but since I started taking the whole pill it seems that my weight is staying the same. Is this normal or will I start to lose weight again once my body become adjusted to the new dosage?
650685 tn?1238004750 Hi I am hypothyroid & take 100mg Levothyroxine per day. I was diagnosed 2 years ago. In general I feel quite well apart from cold & heat intolerance. I was wondering what the range of doseage of Levo can be? I mean I know that some people can take 25mg as a low doseage but I would like to know from you all what doseage you are on & the highest dose that is given?
Avatar f tn I was paying $10 per month for Nature-throid and now have to pay $40.00 per month for Synthroid. I have tried Levothyroxine in the past and it disagreed with me greatly. I am waiting for a response back from my doctor about using Nature-throid again due to how much lower the cost is, but I really would like to keep the Liothyronine as I can take it in multiple doses throughout the day and feel it helping immediately after I take it.
Avatar f tn Adding a total of 10 mcg of T3 doesn't sound like too much, but it is the equivalent of somewhere between 40 and 60 mcg of T4, so it is a hefty increase. It might be better for you to back off to only 5 mcg for 4 or 5 days, and then add the additional 5 mcg. That will give your body some time to acclimate.
Avatar f tn To be close to that amount would require 2 1/2 grains of NP Thyroid, which is about 150 mg and would give you 162 mcg of equivalent T4. The proposed new dose would be only 82 equivalent mcg of T4 (47.5 mcg of T4 + 11.5 mcg of T3 times 3 = 82), which is far too little. Probably the easiest way to disagree with the NP on your new dose is to approach it from the standpoint of how many mcg of T4 and T3 are in your current dose that works well for you. Of course it is 125 plus 15.
738890 tn?1232214279 One says that a grain of Armour Thyroid (60 mg) is the equivalent of 100 mcg of T4 med. The other says that a grain is only equivalent to 75 mcg of T4. My experience is that the latter is better. So that would mean your 250 mcg would equate to 3 1/3 grains of Armour. Since hypo patients frequently find that even when taking large doses of T4 meds, their body does not adequately convert the T4 to T3.
Avatar f tn diagnosed with hypo about 6 yrs ago-at first seemed like my entire body was swollen, seemed better after meds but still had some problems-past yr has been the worst-feet & legs swell and ache and can only walk short time, have been to orthopedic dr, rheumatologists, etc & have had several tests but no results just found new endo two weeks ago put me on 150 mcg levothyroxine & 25 mcg liothyroinie sod half pill twice a day-last tests 5/14/2009 T3 uptake 29 range 22-35, T4 free 1.
Avatar m tn If you reduce the T4 med to say 110, then 5 mcg of T3 is equivalent to 15 mcg of T3, so the total effect would be equivalent to 125 mcg of T4 again. So that is why I said you might need to add another 5 mcg of T3, which would give you 110 plus (3 times 10 mcg of T3) which is equivalent to 140 mcg of T4. So that would give you an increase that you seemed to need, since you were having symptoms at 125.
Avatar f tn Also note that 25mcg of cytomel is equivalent to 100mcg of levothyroxine -- so you were on 337mcg/day T4 equivalent. You will need to work with your doctor to determine the best thyroid replacement. Usually we use 5mcg tablet of cytomel (1-2x / day) - if used at all. With this change in thyroid replacement, you will likely need labs in 5-6 weeks to re-evaluate needs.
Avatar n tn Since I was 8 years old I have been taken levothyroxine. For most of my life the dossage was 125 but I was extremely tired and most of the time lacked energy, sometimes being very drowsy. I slept long hours and woke up tired. I changed to Nature Throid equivalent of one grain and a quarter. It was fabolous the first 3 weeks increasing energy levels to almost double but now I haven't being able to sleep well for almost two weeks.
Avatar f tn She called the pharmacist because I have been on Levothyroxine 150. The pharmacist suggested 90 MG pills. It says to take 1 pill by mouth daily. What do I do? Can I cut them in half, should I do that? I am lost. I am so excited that I finally found a doctor that would prescribe it, but I don't want to do this wrong. I am 47 years old and have been on thyroid meds since I was 19 years old. I have just felt terrible since around October oft his year.
Avatar f tn Saw my doctor this morning. I am on Armour 90mg now. My doctor agreed with me that my blood pressure was high for me and we both agreed we didn't like where my FT3 is at now. I did ask him about lowering my Armour to 75mg but we both knew my FT4 would suffer and he didn't like the idea of mixing Armour and a T4 med. He suggested I go on Levothyroxine to see how I do and to see if my FT3 & FT4 would go up normally.
Avatar n tn I would like to take armour hormone and not levothyroxine what is the dose I would take of armour if i'm taking 125 microgram of levothyroxine
Avatar f tn Doctor would only do TSH, FT3, FT4. My husband is currently on Levothyroxine 50 mcg daily. Want to switch to Naturethroid. TSH 0.69 uIL/ml 0.45 - 4.50 FT3 2.5 pg/mL 2.3 - 4.2 FT4 0.93 ng/dl 0.6 - 1.7 thank you!
324691 tn?1302551842 I was used to taking 100-112mcgs of Levothyroxine daily and seemed ok at that dose. Should I be taking 60 mg instead of 30mgs? I am starting to feel the symptoms of being hypo-t in the last three days and I don't want to regress. What would you sugges as a starter dose when switching between the two? thank you.
Avatar f tn t want to give me any substitution until my TSH was at least 10), I was put on synthetic levothyroxine during one year. I was feeling better, but still fatigued and depressed. I then decided to self-medicate with Armour thyroid (available in Belgium). I felt better but had to switch to Thyroid-S for some reasons (Armour was not available anymore). It's been 6 years i'm on 3 grains of Thyroid-S and everything was great, until last june when I began to have severe panic attacks.
Avatar m tn I understand Thyroid-S to be equivalent to Armour and other prescription NDTs, and not an OTC supplement. Lots of people in the UK seem to do very well on it as, as it is very difficult to get a prescription for Armour or other NDTs. Personally, I am not so sure about the dyes and fillers in it though.
Avatar f tn 100mcg of levothyroxine is about 60mg of armour -- you need to work with a doctor to make sure the conversion works out for you and that labs are appropriate.
