Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine empty stomach

synthroid

Avatar f tn I just read previous posts but I STILL do not know if it is ok to take my probiotics in the morning (on an empty stomach) at the same time as my thyroid meds (Levothroxine)? I also take my Zyrtec at that time. I just started the probiotics and was taking them with breakfast but have read that they should be on an empty stomach. That's my only real empty stomach time because of all my other stuff so now I'm concerned about them interacting with my thyroid meds. Anyone?
Avatar f tn I don't know what phentermine is, but there will be no probs taking levo with methadone, as long as it's not at the same time... levo is taken on an empty stomach with nothing for 30minz to an hour afterwards..
720656 tn?1311040235 but your levothyroxine is best taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with lots of water. Then it would be best to wait to take the omeprazole as it inhibits stomach acid..so may adversely affect taking the levo.. It might take a few TSH tests to get the amt. of levo. right as your body adjusts to it.....ideally your level should be at about .4--3 mu/L . Hope that helps some..
Avatar m tn Doctor asked me to take this tablet daily n empty stomach.. recently only i got to know from another doctor that i shouldn't be taking and dairy products / milk before or after 2 hours from taking this tablet.. 1) Can anyone explain why is that? I'm so used to having coffee with milk when i get up and also morning i used to have cereal with milk so now this is affecting my breakfast timing/routine.. 2) I understand i have to take this tablet lifelong.
Avatar f tn Thyroid medication should be taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before eating. Also, wait at least 3 to 4 hours before taking calcium or iron which can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption. You may want to take your thyroid hormone at night. Two studies have found that taking the same dose of levothyroxine at bedtime, as compared to first thing in the morning, may be better.
1671473 tn?1450592437 im very curious about before & after taking levothyroxine (thyrax,150mcg) an empty stomach. i eat dinner at 7pm then i will not eat already til 5am just to take my pills, after taking at 5am i will wait till lunch to eat i only drink water. is that okey thats my routine since 3yrs. i would like to ask how many hrs an empty stomach before you take medicine? (levothyroxine) thyrax 150mcg any suggestion? thanks.
Avatar f tn This does not suggest cancer is back -- you may want to try a different brand of levothyroxine and rediscuss with your endocrinologist what the target TSH level is for your situation (in most cases, 15 years after treatment, the TSH can be 0.3-2.0 assuming there is no evidence of cancer present).
393419 tn?1228447393 m wondering if taking the synthroid I normally wait 4 hours to eat after taking the pill so perhaps my stomach is too empty for too long and the medicine is causing the shakiness because there is nothing at all but synthroid in my system. . .
Dinosaur I take other supplements that are supposed to be taken on empty stomach or before meals, I also take krill supplements, but they can be taken anytime. Does this also include foods containing calcium, like yoghurt? Can you help me clear up this 4 hour requirement? 3. Directions say that certain foods, including walnuts and 'dietary fiber' may decrease absorption of medicine. I eat walnuts, but not every day. Is that a problem? And what in the world does it mean about dietary fiber?
Avatar f tn I would hazard a guess that the reason why I have to wait to eat when taking Levothyroxine is to ensure that my stomach is empty to ensure better absorption of the medicine, but since I take the ERFA sublingually and thus it doesn't enter my stomach, I don't need to wait. Can you confirm this for me? I've also started taking 1 grain, split in two, once in the morning and once in the evening.
Avatar n tn Levo should be taken first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. After taking it, you should wait 1/2 to 1 hour before eating or drinking anything else (including coffee). Any other meds and dietary supplements should be taken at least 4 hours away from thyroid meds if at all possible. Levo should not make you sleepy. How long have you been on levo?
252327 tn?1250183976 30 before I eat anything. I have never thought of taking it at night since they want your stomach empty when you take it. This is the only way for the synthroid to go through out your system.
Avatar n tn I am taking Levothyroxine Sodium every morning, on an empty stomach. I know I am not to take the medicine with drinks such as orange juice, but rather take it with water. My question is, can I add Mio, calorie-free water enhancer to my water and get the same results as taking the medicine with plain water? It's easier for me to drink more water if I add the flavoring.
Avatar n tn I have hypothyroidism for 33 years and empty sella syndrome. Because my TSH is always messed up docs keeping reducing levothyroxine dramatically, 2 years ago I was in a coma due to hypothyroidism and UTI which went to brain. I started using treadmill to help lose weight and broke tibia due to osteoporosis. I still have 4 children at home, am 54 years old and sick, sick, sick of doctors and surgeries.
Avatar f tn Its 1:30 AM and I've just woken up because my stomach feels empty, empty tothe point where I'm nauseus and have almost vomitted. This isnt the first time this has happened either. Is this normal? Im nine weeks.
Avatar f tn it still must be taken on a empty stomach which is best at 5 hours or more and even then you stomach may not be empty is your system is sluggish because of your thyroid. I could tell when I tried that it was having the opposite effect because my stomach was not empty enough. to resolve this because I am hypo with a slower metabolism and slower digestion etc..... I started taking this earlier in the morning.....
Avatar f tn I take mine in the AM on empty stomach and wait 1/2 hr to eat. Let me share this link, too, in the health pages which is of interest: Study: Altered Intestinal Absorption of L-Thyroxine Caused by Coffee Objective: To report eight case histories, and in vivo and in vitro studies showing coffee's potential to impair thyroxine (T4) intestinal absorption." http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Thyroid-Disorders/Study--Absorption-of-L-Thyroxine-caused-by-Coffee/show/107?
Avatar f tn Is it okay to take levoxyl and iron supplements both together on an empty stomach???
Avatar f tn My mother is 54 years old and she has been diagnosed with empty sella hypopituitarism. She is placed on levothyroxine and predisone medication 2.5 mg dose. I am worried if she can live a normal life after these hormone replacement therapy.she was sick for past two years with intermittent episodes of nausea vomiting and now only she has got a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn re supposed to take it on an empty stomach (1/2 hr before eating) but does that include coffee???? Uhg ... I need my cup of joe 1st thing!!!!
Avatar m tn It is generally best to take the medication on an empty stomach but the key is consistently and taking it the same way every day. Your T4 level was a little bit high but within normal T3 and TSH; you may be sensitive to medications and targeting a TSH in the 3-5 range may be reasonable. But looking into other reasons for the low potassium (this simply could have been dehydration) and palpitations may be necessary if you continue to have symptoms.
Avatar m tn It's true that different manufacturers use different fillers (these are used by both brand and generic manufacturers) and some people are sensitive to them. Often, switching brands or from generic to a brand name or brand name to generic can make a world of difference. You can take your meds any time that works best for you. The rule of thumb, though, is also that you should not have had anything to eat or drink for 3-4 hours prior to taking meds, i.e. your stomach is empty.
Avatar n tn I take it first thing in the am with my Levothryoxine. I don't take it later in the day because it makes it impossible for *me* to sleep. Doesn't effect everyone that way though. If you've never taken it b4 you'll have to experiment and see how you feel.
Avatar m tn Synthroid should be taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, then eat or drink nothing else for at least 30-60 minutes. It's also recommended that you not take most vitamin/mineral supplements within 4 hours of taking synthroid (levothyroxine). I did a quick search for drug interaction and came up with the possibility that synthroid may inhibit the absorption of metformin, thereby causing hyperglycemia or glucose intolerance.
Avatar f tn I agree that you should not take calcium supplements, etc for 4 hours after taking thyroid med; however, I'm not convinced that a bit of milk in your morning coffee is going to mess things up much, if at all. Read the information sheet that came with your cytomel. Mine says it can be taken "with or without food". Levothyroxine, which is a T4 med, should be taken on an empty stomach at least an hour before eating; however, I don't believe that holds true for cytomel.
Avatar f tn Obviously sleep has become problematic. I always took it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach 1hr. before breakfast. I am considering taking it at night after 2 hours of not eating. Would digestion still be adequate under those conditions? Or is levothyroxine so consistent that the hourly fluctuation would be nil? Anyone take it at night?
