Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine dosage too low

synthroid

Avatar f tn 86 too low??? I am not feeling any hyper symptoms at all, so wondering if I should push for a higher dose of Levothyroxine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I honestly don't know what more to do...
Avatar f tn I have never received documentation, I am just told it is too high or too low. But I am more confused than ever. When I came home from the hospital ( I was taking 75mcg) I had blood work done. I was asked if i remembered to take while in the hospital, the answer was yes. The GP wrote out a prescription for 100mcg and I was to discontinue the 75mcg. I went back to have the levels checked again on Monday, Tuesday I was call on the phone and told the thyroid was really low ( she said 4.
Avatar f tn 75 mcg seems like a large dosage for someone with normal but borderline free T4. What was your TSH? My endocrinologist (who is generally very good but is confusing me with a recent issue, as I have posted about) likes to use TSH merely as an initial indication that there may be a thyroid problem, and then dose based on the actual thyroid hormone levels (particularly free T4.
Avatar n tn July 26, Dr. Mark, I do appreciate your answer to my previous question about too much levothyroxine. My next question is this, if my dosage of levothyroxine went straight from 50mgc to 150mcg and it started the heart pounding and it hasn't completely stopped in two years and my levothyroxine has now slowly been lowered back to 50mcg, and the problem still exist, what could cause that? Also when my doctor tried to raise it to 75mcg, it started the heart pounding right away.
Avatar f tn In addition, since hypo patients are frequently too low in the ranges for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, I would also suggest testing for those. Each is very important for optimal health for a hypo patient. If you can get those additional tests done, and posted, members will be happy to help interpret and advise further.
Avatar f tn to answer your greatest anxiety first,, levothyroxine can be prescribed to a dose of 150mcg in usual doses,, it is usually increased in doses of 25mcg at a time...
Avatar m tn I have been taking the medication for 3 and 1/2 months (before this I might have indigestion once or twice a year), and now I am experiencing heartburn two to three times per week, bloating, and more pronounced balance problems. Should I decrease the Levothyroxine to the original dosage or talk to the doctor about increasing the dosage?
Avatar f tn 5 ug levothyroxine, but this dosage has not helped, and I am feeling aches, fatigue and arrhythmia again. I feel that I should be better, my Dr. probably won't increase my levo. dosage with the TSH being under 1. (I didn't ask for t3 uptake, that was my Dr's request). My Vitamin D is low at about 20 ng/mL, but when I try to raise it past 1000 IU my arrhythmia seems to bother me more. Any suggestions about where to go from here would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn m taking an unusually low dose of levothyroxine and labs just indicated tsh is too low reduce meds to 88mcg. Why do I require so little? Could it be because I'm taking generic and not brand. Dr ordered more test to check t4 an t3?
Avatar f tn I have Hasimoto's disease and was given 50 mcg of Levothyroxine. My numbers did not improve and the dr increased the dosage to 75 mcg. Within a week and for 4 months I was an emotional, depressed, raging lunatic. I BEGGED to get a lower dosage and threatened to stop all together. Dr reluctantly lowered the dosage and I feel normal but tired, tired ALL the time. My next appt is coming up and know the dr will want to increase my dosage. Is there anything else I can take or do?
Avatar f tn Yes. Taking too much levothyroxine for hypothyroidism can push you into hyperthyroidism. Some people mistakenly think that being hyperthyroid will give you lots of energy, when in fact the increased metabolism can make you very tired. A lot of people will lose weight being hyperthyroid, but there are many who gain weight instead, due to the increased appetite and tiredness. Are you taking only levothyroxine? That's a low TSH for someone not taking a T3 med, which suppresses TSH.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm newly diagnosed hypothyroid. I've been taking 25mg levothyroxine for nearly 8 weeks now but I just feel worse and worse. It's really affecting my day to day life much more than before - I'm a student nurse and am struggling to make it through my shifts on a daily basis. Thinking my dosage is wrong - how long does it take for everything to become stabilised again? Not sure how I'm gunna carry on my nurse training at the moment :-( any comments appreciated.
1052292 tn?1274457092 It sounds like you were overmedicated, and therefore hyper, on 100 mcg. Dosage is somewhat weight-based, and your weight loss might have made it just a bit too much for you. I understand your concerns about going back to 100 mcg, and I wouldn't want to, either. There are alternatives. Jumping from 100 to 50 is most likely going to make you hypo before too long. That's too big a jump.
Avatar n tn It is difficult to know if the cramps are due to the hypothyroidism itself or the levothyroxine (ie synthroid) -- or simply too much levothyroxine. If you have hypothyroidism, it is not a good idea to stop meds altogether -- work with your doctor to find the right dose that keeps your TSH around 1.0 or so.
Avatar f tn 2 (10-24) I skipped my Liothyronine dosage the day of the test, so it had been about 26-27 hours since my last dose of T3. My doctor wants to lower my Levothyroxine dosage to 25 mcg and keep Liothyronine at the same dosage due to my TSH being so low, but she knows the Liothyronine is making a big difference for me. Would this be a good move to fix my RT3/FT3? I've been doing better but don't feel "normal" or how I did before my thyroid went out of whack.
Avatar f tn 05MG one in the AM as a back up ( in case I cant get my Armour RX filled ) Is it OK to switch from Armour to the cytomel/levothyroxine and is the dosage equivalent ? I notice when I take my Armour, I feel very hot/warm and somewhat irritable afterwards for a few hours. Is that a normal side effect? I have an enlarged pituitary and enlarged pituitary stalk , which is monitored by MRI yearly.
Avatar n tn it's possible that the jump has just been too much, too soon. I know that about a week after every dose increase i've had my headaches get worse for a while and that is after small jumps e.
Avatar m tn I started taking levothyroxine again about 3 weeks ago again and have felt really terrible ever since. For whatever reason i have been not my outgoing energitic self. But really, really way to calm and relaxed. But i have also been like zombie because i was so tired as well.My tsh was 2.17 on.050 of levothyroxine and now the endo wants me to go to go up to .075 of synthroid. Does that sound like to much for my tsh?.I dont want to give myself a heart attack or anything.
Avatar f tn I was recently prescribed 0.025 levothyroxine and my hypothyroid symptoms seem to be getting worse. Is that normal when starting on a low dose? The only thing I am worried about is my heart. It feels weird, kinda like a tightness and my pulse is lower then normal. I am also getting pain in my upper back. I had these issues before starting the medication but seems to be getting worse and starting to be paranoid. Should i stop taking it? My appointment isn't for another three weeks.
