Levothyroxine dosage too high

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine dosage too high

synthroid

Avatar n tn These are not likely synthroid side effects, but too much thyroid can cause GI symptoms and less likely ear/jaw pain -- doubt the goiter would have suddenly regrown to cause pain. Would recheck labs in 4 weeks or if symptoms worsen in meantime ask your doctor about the synthroid dosing. Long term use of meds like nexium may increase thyroid requirements, so the higher dose may work out well in that regard.
Avatar f tn Problem is l am extremely disoriented, stumble around, blurred vision, suffer anxiety attacks to mention just a few symptoms. ls my dose too high? l have also lost 1 stone in the last year (purposely).
Avatar f tn The pharmacist is not authorized to change a medication and prescribe a dosage like that. 300 mcg of Levothyroxine is very high and it would be very rare to start out on such a dosage.
Avatar n tn Hi, I started about a month or so ago on this as I have an underactive thyroid gland, I had just 25mg at first which I couldn't see a different with, then a couple of weeks back or maybe a week I can't remember (!) doc raised it to 75mg - she was going to do 50 but said she wanted me to notice a difference. Well I'm not sure if it's linked but I have had terrible pressure in my head for days now, gets worse in the evening and also giving me panic attacks for no reason.
1052292 tn?1274457092 Anyway, a couple of weeks ago it started feeling as if my Levo dose was too high. I went from being Hypo to feeling very, Hyper. Really bad headaches, very fast and irregular heart rate, blood pressure spikes, feeling very anxious and nervous, insomnia, flushing etc. I've never experienced any of these symptoms before. On my own I went back to 50 mcg. of Levo per day and immediately all of those symptoms went away and I began to feel much better.
Avatar m tn You should never adjust your dosage without your doctor's blessing; self medication gets a lot of people into trouble. Your symptoms do not indicate that you are over medicated; however, your doctor is not testing all of the right things, either. TSH is a pituitary hormone and does not necessarily correlate with either symptoms, or actual thyroid hormone levels. You need to ask to get tested for Free T3 and Free T4.
Avatar n tn good evening, i would like to be clarified if it is possible, whats the magnitude of a high fiber diet and levothyroxine absorption.
Avatar f tn My TSH at that time was around 2.0, doctor prescribed 50 mg Levothyroxine. My Tsh then dropped to 1.54, but as I was still symtomatic, doctor upped my dose to 75. Most of my symptoms improved, and I felt quite healthy over the spring and summer, except that I was still having swelling issues (mainly my face/eyes) and muscle cramping, fatigue. My Tsh results on 75 mg are 0.86.
Avatar n tn My TSH level is 99.97. The doctor prescribed .150 of Levothyroxine. Do you think this is too high to begin with? I have been on the medicine for 10 days. I am feeling a little jittery and my BP seems to be going up a little. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have been on Levothyroxine for the past 5 years or so, and recently my new doctor increased my dosage from 88mcg to 100mcg, due to my blood work results. I also take Citalopram 30mg for anxiety, and Xanax as needed (rarely). I have been taking the new dosage (100mcg) for about 3- 4 weeks now. I am experiencing a huge flux in anxiety (it was always pretty stable before since I have been on the Citalopram; I haven't had to take Xaxax in over 6 months).
Avatar m tn My TSH blood test reading was 25.50 - my doctor prescribed Levothyroxine Sodium 25Mcg Tablets- Should I be taking this for a high blood test reading.
Avatar n tn What's the reference range on your FT4? Ranges have to come from your own lab report. An increase is appropriate given your FT4 and TSH results. Did your doctor test FT3? Do you have any hyper symptoms?
Avatar f tn 20) Over the last few years I have increased my thyroid dosage starting very low and now at the high end. I feel better each time I increase but never feeling like I can be at my optimal best. I do not feel I have symptoms of hyperthyroidism as my tests are indicating. My primary physician wanted me to stop dosage on Sundays to balance my levels. Do you think this is the best approach? What do high T3 levels do when you don't have hyper symptoms?
Avatar f tn ) He also suspected that even 100 mg was too high. Even your 75 mcg is a pretty high starting dosage for even a severely hypothyroid patient. From what I have learned, most doctors start low - it was unusual for my PCP to start me so high. I'm now actually down to 50 mcg, from 125 mcg, even though I have Hashimoto's so my thyroid will continue to deteriorate. It wasn't until I was on this dramatically lower dosage that I realized I really had been having some hyper symptoms.
Avatar f tn Thank you, Gimel, for your response, and link to the pdf. I found the following within that document: "If the FT4 is below mid-range, then FT3 should be in the upper end of its range, or as needed to assure thyroid sufficiency (31, 44)." Note that my FT3 is in the 82% of range on this last test. Most of the treatment recommendation ranges mention FT4 FT3 both in the half or top quarter of the range, but I never see much mention of the FT4 being low and FT3 being high.
Avatar f tn I never knew Acacia is in Synthroid. Now that I am older (65) I need to be careful not to take too high a dosage to prevent heart problems. I just recently started having itchiness just 22 minutes after Synthroid 137mcg (blue one), so my doctor switched me to compounded levothyroxine which has avicel in it (methylcellulose).
Avatar f tn Studies from the ATA indicate this, but I am not sure it's proven. It IS reported. Try the American Thyroid Website and search out levo dosage articles. They will tell you a lot. Also, the package inserrt will tell you possible side effects and dosage effects, as well as your pharmacist - just to get different opinions. 250 is a pretty high dose.
Avatar f tn What kind of medical problems can high TSH levels trigger? I am 50 years old and have abnormal periods. Have just had Levothyroxine meds increased. Can this be a sign of menopause? Could it be a sign of something more serious going on? I have been having lower abdomen pain like in the ovaries and cramping in lower back and legs have also been cramping during recent periods. Just saw gynecologist and he did an ultrasound and said cervix was ok.
1139187 tn?1355706647 Of course, we all know that too high a dose can lead to being hyper; this is an issue with any form of thyroid replacement med, not just Tirosint. We have to be in tune with our body enough to recognize the symptoms of too high a dose. I've been on Tirosint since August and even though, I'm about ready to up my dose, I feel better than I have felt in many years. I think it's pretty melodramatic to talk of dying that way.
