If you already have a current rx, Walmart has extremely low cost prescriptions for many common medications. I think they charge only 4 dollars, something like that.

Synthroid is one of the name brands for levothyroxine (man-made T4). You can get generic levothyroxine or one of the name brands: Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Unithroid. Be careful though. They are the same main ingredient but use different "binders". Personally I cannot take the generic and only do well on the Synthroid - others are quite opposite.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in November of 09. I was initially put on 100mcg of generic Levothyroxine (can't remember what manufacturer.) I did not feel much difference in the following months. Shortly after I was diagnosed I lost my health insurance so any follow up tests had to be postponed. I continued the 100mcg dosage though. Fast forward to this past month. I have been employed and am currently signed up for a reduced care program.

Generics are just a name change only, from high cost brands name medicines to low cost brand name medicines. Just like all other products sold here in the US: Toilet paper, clothing, clothes soaps, and foods, etc., etc., etc. I buy a lot of generic products, which are made by brand name companies, with the same ingredients. Its the advertising of the "Brand Name" products that is where the high cost comes from.

At that time, I switched to Levoxyl, which is another brand name, Levothyroxine, but most people who have tried it, do well on it and the cost is very reasonable.

Anyone use this brand? Since its only $10 at walmart, I wonder about accuracy. Test strips are more affordable too than the others..

I take the Similac /w DHA. They used to sell them at Walmart now I can only find them at Walgreens. They are about $12.00 after you take the coupon out of the box, lol.

Hi Dr. I have ringing and pressure in my left ear along with an inflammed feeling in my thyroid gland. I feel horrible and everyday it's a struggle to keep going. Even my gums ache. I've been to the ent for the ringing in my ear and sinusitis. I use a neti pot and just finished antibiotics but I'm still no better. Now it seems my sinuses are better but my thyroid is burning. I am hypothyroid and I'm on levothyroxine .050.

Started on Friday on levothyroxine, 50mg. the first day and all four days have had severe headache; the pain goes into the back of my neck. In addition, I am dizzy; not 100% of the time, but most often when getting up suddenly, or moving around. The doctor told me to stop taking the Rx for four days and see if the symptoms stop. They seem to be dissipating after a day. What is different in the generic to the brand name that causes more reactions in people, and are mine common.

The best meter is the one they use at the hospital I forget the brand/modle number. Im sure they can tell you. Cost about $5,000 and $5.00 a test strip. Walmart has meters for $14.99 and $26 for 100 test strips. ALL meters sold to the public have to be %20 accurate 90% of the time. My Best meter is the one the insurance will cover the cost of the test strips.

If ur looking for something that won't cost u alot go to Wal-Mart or target go only tho they have more options, but if ur looking to spend over $250 then go to buy buy baby,baby rus and all does baby stores

I have no direct experience with the medications you mention, but can say my insurance requires (or I pay a big cost penalty) me to use generic drugs. These are, however, US distributed. I believe many people buy drugs from Canada to save money, but I have my doubts about the quality of anything that can be ordered over the Internet without a prescription...assuming a prescription is required in the US.

They require a prescription, but the generic Warfarin is available at very low cost, e.g., Walmart. The bigger cost for being on an anticoagulant is getting the blood tests to be sure the level of medication is right. But given you can't take aspirin (did you take them with food?), there doesn't seem to be another choice. I do not know anything about Ginseng...but be careful with herbs, some can be dangerous.
