Avatar f tn If your Free T3 level is too low in the range, it is very difficult to lose weight and maintain the loss. Since you are taking levothyroxine, and not being tested for Free T3 and Free T4, I suggest that your first step should be to get that testing done, in order to find out your actual levels. If the doctor resists, just insist on it and don't take no for an answer. It is that important.
Avatar m tn With adequate testing of the actual, biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4 (FT3 and FT4, not total T3 and total T4) and a corresponding dosage of medication, I see no reason why a patient cannot at least escape the worst of becoming hypo, during the time waiting for the thyroid glands to ultimately cease functioning. Here is an interesting link about that . http://thyroid.about.com/od/hypothyroidismhashimotos/a/preventative.
393685 tn?1425812522 There has been new information released recently on the use of particular weight loss drugs and the use of Levothyroxine together. The specific weight loss medication is Alli ( which is the brand name for the medication Rx Orlistat) Orlistat is a drug that promotes fat-blocking - taken with meals to help block some of the fat -- and therefore fewer intake of calories -- from meals, and aids in some weight loss.
Avatar f tn Symptoms prompting testing were significant hair loss, extreme fatigue and sluggishness, weight gain and difficulty losing weight and several other symptoms. Was referred to an Endo and left there on the verge of tears.
1323747 tn?1364806882 There is a MedHelp Weight Loss and Dieting forum...you might try that. Although I agree that low FT3 and FT4, slow conversion and a low FT3/RT3 ratio can all make it almost impossible to lose weight, I feel some of this doctor's treatments may be distinctly "alternative", and not mainstream medicine. I also fought my weight all my life. I always said that if I wasn't starving myself, I was gaining weight. My body had no vested interest in maintaining my weight whatsoever.
Avatar f tn 05mg of levothyroxine to start with. i have read about alot of side affects and am worried about the hair loss and weight gain the most. anyone on this medication and can give me some feedback that would be great. i am already overweight, at 170 now i have gained almost 40 lbs in 4 years. my left eye is also larger than my right, she said it will get better with time. somehow i have a hard time believing that, it has been this way since last september. thanks, michelle Please help!
Avatar n tn Is it OK to use phentermine and levothyroxine together? If not what diet medications are safe to use with levothyroxine? I suffer with such low energy, even though my levels are good.
Avatar m tn I need some help to understand the medication prescribed to my mother due to her high cholesterol (for last 2 years). Patient information: 60 years old, Female, 5 ft height, 81 lb weight. I am giving the complete history below but this is the issue in nutshell "Is Levothyroxine right medication for high cholesterol, when the thyroid results (serum T3, T4, TSH) are normal ?
Avatar n tn If you take it correctly EVERY DAY, then yes you would see results on weight loss and feeling better, but it will take a while to get your levels back to where they need to be seeing as you have not taken it faithfully. Take your medicine, it will make a huge difference. Don't get discouraged becaues you don't see or feel an immediate change, remember, it will take about 4-6 weeks to see or feel a difference, if you take it correctly....
Avatar f tn I have been on 75mcg of levothyroxine for 7 weeks and I have noticed weight loss. My TSH was at 81.10 on Oct 2013. Before my blood work doctor put me on previous dose until test came back. I went back to doctor for a sinus infection and they want me to continue until mid December then another blood draw. Turns out I have had a severe sinus infection the same time I went in the weeks prior, took 2000mg og amoxicillin for 10 days. Anyway, they just ordered a Free T4?
7729616 tn?1393795492 A year later my thyroid hormones went low and I was put on Levothyroxine. I started to gain a bit of weight even though I was under the impression the Levothyroxine would have made me lose weight. I have now lost weight again and my body mass index is now in the "underweight" category. I don't know what it is I'm doing wrong as I've been eating well and I have cut my activity level down so as not to burn any unnecessary weight off.
1052292 tn?1274457092 It sounds like you were overmedicated, and therefore hyper, on 100 mcg. Dosage is somewhat weight-based, and your weight loss might have made it just a bit too much for you. I understand your concerns about going back to 100 mcg, and I wouldn't want to, either. There are alternatives. Jumping from 100 to 50 is most likely going to make you hypo before too long. That's too big a jump.
Avatar n tn Also, how about checking out the Weight Loss and Dieting Forum - there are tons of good ideas that might be helpful. BUT - first and foremost - you need to get your thyroid levels balanced and that will make a lot of difference. I felt like I was beating my head against a brick wall, now I'm actually believing that I just might be able to make it back to "pre-hypO" weight. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I have not lost any weight since learning I had hypothyroidism and began taking levothyroxine. Are you using BMI suggest you are "almost there"? If so, I think you might rethink that given your activity level. It is a less accurate measure for athletes. As far as losing weight, it really all comes down to calories in and calories out.
Avatar f tn Before I began taking Synthroid, I experienced extreme numbness in my fingers and toes, a huge *HUGE* weight gain, lethargy, depression, and hair loss (to name a few). You didn't say how long you have been taking the medication nor how much weight you have gained. I began gaining weight about 7 years ago and then gained over 70 lbs during my last pregnancy (compared to the 25 lbs I gained with the first two).
Avatar f tn I have a lot of health problems and was told by pcp, neurologist, and endocrinologist to pursue weight loss surgery. Had Roux-en-y (gastric bypass) at beginning of December. I lost 20 lb in December but since January (over a month) I haven't lost any on 500 calories a day and exercising, least not hungry . Seriously went back to doctors and there measurements were loss of 1 ounce, very disappointed . Nutritionist wanted new thyroid messurements due to absorbtion issues after bypass.
Avatar f tn I was disgnosed with Hypothyrodism a few months ago and currently on Levothyroxine 125mg. I excercise regularly and keep the rigth diet but my weigth gain just continues to increase. I am 6 - 7 stones overweight as it is and i'm so frustrated about it. I am begining to feel really drepressed about the weigth gain as I can't fit into my clothes and uncomfortable at outings. I need some tips as well. Can somebody out there give some advice.
906129 tn?1242398630 50mcg in the fall and started gaining weight especially in the stomach region, with the research I have been compiling I have come to the conclusion that if you have a t3 problem that is if your t4 is normal but it has a problem converting to t3 and your hypo you will gain weight also it raises your cortisol levels so that is why the stomach weight gain.
