I have had hypothyroidism (hashimotos disease) for 12yrs now, I do take levothyroxine for it and haven't had any problems with it since diagnosis. Recently I was diagnosed with herpes 2.
My questions are:
1) since I already have an autoimmune disease are there any correlations between hypothyroidism and herpes?
2) Is a person more susceptible to getting herpes because of prior immune issues?
3) will having herpes affect my thyroid in any way down the road?
ve been diagnosed I have tried every diet under the sun and never lost more than a few pounds before putting on more than I started with, it's got to the point where I'm so down I need to find something that will work, I've read that metformin helps ?
If anyone has any tips for things that work it would greatly appreciated!
Hi! I've always had pale skin which burned easily, but in the past I was able to get by with just using sunblock. But this past summer my skin was extremely sensitive and I'm not sure what's causing this. I went on vacation and every time I was in the sun I applied spf 50 waterproof sunblock, and diligently reapplied after going in the water and every two hours. But I still had a horrible reaction to the sun. My skin got red and hot and it was very painful.
Another good one is Tirosint, which is a gelcap and contains only glycerine, water, Levothyroxine and gelatin. Tirosint tends to be the most expensive, but the manufacturer has programs for those who qualify.
Is TSH the only thyroid related blood test that's being performed regularly? What about Free T4 and Free T3? Those are the actual thyroid hormones.
hey docs. i was treated recently for ngu and a testi infection. 750 mg of levaquen for 28 days. but this is what i read. The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) sertraline (ZOLOFT), widely prescribed for depression, has been associated with a decrease in the effect of levothyroxine. i take zolaft 100 mg daily. i still have testi pain and burning. i am now bieng treated with diflucan for 7 days for a yeast infection. should i be worried. do u think my ngu was wiped out.

I have been tested for everything under the sun from heart and lung problems to seizures but all of my tests come back normal except my thyroid levels are all over the charts. an ultrasound of my thyroid show that it is small but otherwise normal and my potassium levels are generally low. is there any one out there that can help me find a better way to manage this problem.
But my appt with him is next week and I will tell him I want t3 and t4 test besides TSH.. I have stopped the levothyroxine for this past week and my hips are really feeling alot better..so I am thinking it has something to do with that med.
With these symptoms, you should have the diagnosis confirmed (test TPO and Tg antibodies) and a trial of levothyroxine therapy considered. Stress is a contributor to autoimmune disease and to your symptoms in general, but the thyroid may well be a significant cause as well.
But this week my weight started shooting up again my stomach is bloated and I am getting headaches and feeling very dizzy . I checked my blood pressure in cvs and it came to 140/100 which i understand is stage 1 hypertension. I haven't had hypertension before. Is his bcoz of levothyroxine ? I have my next appointment only in June. Will it be advisable to check with my doctor before that.
There are studies that suggest the connection and there are patients whose hives improve with levothyroxine treatment to keep the TSH in the low-normal range (0.3-1.0). Working with an allergist as well is often useful.
I had my blood tested and then retested for hypothyroidism. MY TSH was 5.6 the first time. This last test included a T3 and T4 profile. I do not know what these last results were, but my PCP put me on 25 mcg of levothyroxine (after the results of this last test). I had a bout with AFib last year (just the one time) and they think it was caused by anxiety. One of the side effects of the levothyroxine is irregular heartbeat.
My oncologist wants me to start taking nexavar, but she said that I could not spend time in the sun. Being a surfer and would like to take some time in MX. This drug does not sound to good for the amount of time (3.5 to 3 moths of life extension) that it boast will give me. has any one had any experience with nexavar and the sun?
High factor sunscreen, something cool to wear - we took the wee man a walk round the country park near us on Sat and had him in a thin all in one cotton suit with short sleeves and short arms and no vest, sun hat.
