synthroid

Avatar f tn ve read on the internet, in books, and on my prescription bottle even for my Levothyroxine, as to foods to avoid. My sister has Hashimotos and saw a doctor that said it didn't matter what she ate since she has Hashimoto's. What is your opinion on this? No soy, or walnuts or other foods??
Avatar n tn Last year I was told my my endo. to not eat soy products and take calcium pill 4 hrs. after synthroid. This visit, she informed me I should not be eating high fiber cereal until at least 4 hrs after taking synthroid. I have to assume that 1% Special K would be OK for breakfast compared to the high fiber Shredded Wheat and Fiber One. What can you tell me about this?
Avatar m tn Hey Jennserb, your doctor is full of Balony, I'm on Armour, I tried Levothyroxin and Levoxyl and it was horrible, I'd find a new doctor right away, just the fact that he doesn't care how you feel is horrible. My hair actually really started to grow when i got on Armour, its seems thicker too. While on Armour, did you split your dose up? when i started splitting my dose I felt alot better. I'd give Armour another try, I'm pretty happy with it.
Avatar m tn in 2015 I was diagnosed w/ hypothyroidism w/ a TSH at 16.. was put on 50mcg of levothyroxine in the ER.. stayed on that for a year but never felt much better.. found a new PCP in Oct 2017 she put me on 16.25mcg of Nature throid.. I did well and increased it to 32.5 mcg & felt at my best.. then they changed the formula.. w/ the new prescription my TSH went up to 6.35.. was switched to NP thyroid & since then I've had severe heart palps/shortness of breath/high anxiety...
Avatar f tn This doctor (Endo) saw me and told me to immediately stop taking my levothyroxine and he wanted to run a bunch of blood work in 3 weeks. 3 weeks go by and I get my blood drawn. I see him back at his office to get my results and he tells me he is 300% sure I have Graves disease because my TSI was 394.
Avatar f tn Well...sadly a lot of the food in my house contains soy and I cannot afford to replace it all. So, will eating the soy as far apart from the time I take my medicine lessen the adverse affects it can cause?
Avatar f tn I found out I have Hashimoto's about a year ago and waited for my thyroid to get under control before trying to get pregnant. I am not 7 weeks pregnant and during my routine TSH test this week I found out that my TSH level is up to 23. my doctor immediatdly upped my dosage to 125 Levothyroxine. I'm just wondering, does this mean I'm going to miscarry? should I be prepared for it, and also, how soon will my levels start to go down after starting this higher dose?
976606 tn?1263667593 I just heard that grapefruit juice can affect metabolism and was wondering if anyone knew if it was ok to be taking Synthroid and eating a grapefruit....thanks!

913053 tn?1245952849 ve there are other things non-medication related, like certain foods and beverages, that decrease effectiveness, but what are they? I do know soy is generally bad news for thyroids (my mom is convinced because I was a soy formula baby that's why I became hypo...I don't really believe that necessarily). Thanks in advance!
Avatar n tn Your question about foods is interesting to me since Synthroid's in my future. Did a little web trawl looking for answers. Seems like the big hazards are supplements and meds taken too soon before or after the Synthroid, but the Physician's Desk Reference also includes this: "A high-fiber diet, soy-containing supplements, and walnuts can also interfere with the effects of levothyroxine.
557907 tn?1215882569 I have Celiac disease [need to eliminate all gluten from wheat, rye, barley and oats] and I am very dairy intolerant -- to the point that I have to keep any dairy products from all foods and medication (lactose in meds is a problem). I have been using soy milk, absolutely love soy yogurt, and enjoy tofu to fill-in for all the dairy foods I can not have. Boooo! No more Purely Decadant Soy Ice Cream. Yumm! This is pure torture!!!!
Avatar f tn NO processed foods or artifical anything! Stopped eating red meat and dairy products. No yeast, soy, wheat, corn etc etc.. (am allergic to soy anyway). For breakfast I have Quaker Oats hot cereal (not instant). I thought I was on a gluten free diet until a couple weeks ago when someone told me there is gluten in the cereal. This is my favorite meal! :( Do you know of any cereals that don't contain gluten? Also, for what reason should we not eat gluten?
Avatar m tn Hello. I just recently started taking Synthroid. I am a little concerned about something and I hope someone here can help me out :) I am a vegan (no meats, dairy, eggs). I do eat (in moderation) soy products, mostly tempeh (fermented soy), tofu and maybe some soy milk in my coffee. I've heard from several people that I will have to cut out all soy products because it interferes with the medication and is a huge contributing factor to my hypo. Is this true?
Avatar f tn follow-up, women in the highest quartile of soy consumption (for example, tofu, soy milk, or fresh soy beans) showed lower hazard ratios for total mortality (0.71) and recurrence (0.68), relative to those in the lowest quartile. The effect was noted in both estrogen-receptor–positive and –negative tumors, and with early- and late-stage cancers.
Avatar n tn 30 AM or 12 PM, an hour or more before my first meal of the day. (I am not a morning person.) So, from early January 2010 until around February 20, 2010, I took 125 mcg of levothyroxine per day. Also, during part of this time, I took Centrum at night. However, sometimes, I would get chest pains or some other kind of discomfort after taking the Centrum. So, I stopped taking the Centrum, probably in early February 2010.
87651 tn?1259602403 After reading the contents, its says sweetened with milk and soy. I am on Armour, 45 mgs. Any thoughts? Or can we have soy, but within a certain timeframe of taking meds?
Avatar m tn was normal until I changed my diet and added soy milk and soy based products. I developed a sweating issue because of it and being off it, it has gone away. It stimulates the thyroid but it also does other things to... The doc believes the hair loss was a result of my poor diet 3 years ago but the thyroid is keeping it from going back normal. Thanks for the response. Can someone answer the questions I have from my first post? I would appriciate it.
