Avatar f tn 3) and have the same kind of extreme photosensitivity and facial rash. The dermatologist I went to specifically stated that this was Rosacea and also a side-effect of my skin being more permiable than most peoples because of the connective-tissue disorder. It is considered to act like an Auto-immune disorder but doesn't show up on ANA (mine is always negative when they check).
Avatar n tn There are certain conditions and diseases which cause photosensitivity from visible light, meaning certain houselights and even laptop screens can cause problems.
7729616 tn?1393795492 A year later my thyroid hormones went low and I was put on Levothyroxine. I started to gain a bit of weight even though I was under the impression the Levothyroxine would have made me lose weight. I have now lost weight again and my body mass index is now in the "underweight" category. I don't know what it is I'm doing wrong as I've been eating well and I have cut my activity level down so as not to burn any unnecessary weight off.
Avatar f tn I am thinking along the line of dermatitis, photosensitivity and autoimmune disorder. These are just differentials .You have mentioned of rash and redness over the cheek which may be a photosensitivity reaction. Photosensitivity reactions have varying types and this may include solar urticaria and chemical photosensitivity. Dermatographia wherein raised portions of the skin manifest after pressure may be a form of hypersensitivity reaction (much like hives) . The cause of this is not clear.
1974758 tn?1330821166 I live in florida and we had a beautiful winter and I lived like a vampire. Ispoke with my dr. on wed. about getting back outside now that I am done treatment and he said spf 50 I usually use 30 so no big deal, just to get out and walk on the beach again. But sun and treatment is not a good match.

Avatar n tn Certain medications can cause a physical reaction which is known as photosensitivity. The consequences can range from itchiness to an uncomfortable rash, UV burns, or in extreme cases, death. The underlying cause can be those sensitve to thiazide.
Avatar n tn Hi Some people are likely to be more sensitive to heat or to sun exposure. You may be experiencing a photosensitivity reaction. Photosensitivity reactions involve a whole spectrum of skin conditions. Solar urticaria may present with a rash few minutes after exposure to the sun. Chemical photosensitivity may present with skin rash after application of creams and lotions coupled with sun exposure. Which one applies in your case?
Avatar f tn s been a few days now and Ifeel better and I want to resume my workout schedule. Is strenuous exercise contraindicated when taking amoxicillin? Also, is sun exposure a factor, and if so, how long after you complete the round of antibiotics should you wait before you are able to go back out in the sun?
Avatar f tn Could this mean i have a skin infection and need to get some stronger medicine because cortizone is not working it only stops the itch for a lil while but the bumps dont go away sometime they are raised and bumpy and other times they are flat n smooth. I dont know what to do.
Avatar f tn I looked like a Loris, redness everywhere, especially around the eyes and forehead and face and scalp. I looked so bad I did not even go to the grocery store for weeks. The only place I went was to the dermatologist and she was quite concerned. It is finally under control now, but not totally gone. As far as the vomiting is concerned, you may want to ask your doctor for a prescription medication. I used Zofran for the nausea. I took 8 mg every 8 hours.
Avatar n tn Hi This sounds like a photosensitivity reaction. Photosensitivity reactions may range from solar urticaria to more severe reactions to UV rays. In your case, this may be solar urticaria. “Solar urticaria is an uncommon disorder sometimes difficult to treat. It is characterized by the occurrence of typical whealing reactions on exposed skin a few minutes after sun exposure. The reactions resolve 1 to 5 hours after sun exposure ceases.” Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn For the melasma, treatment options include treatment with vitamin C and hydrocortisone, peel with carbon dioxide snow and alexandrite and ND-Yag Q-Switched laser treatment preceded by a hydroquinone-based application. But get it done after the course of Accutane. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Avatar m tn My wife has had two episodes of severe sunburn with peeling lasting longer than the usual sunburn. She used to be able to stay in the sun all she wanted. She takes Simvastation( Lipitor) and Alprazolam (Xanex). It looks like photosensitivity has been reported with both. Any thought as to which is the most likely?
Avatar m tn I have been on warfarin for nine years, and I personally have not heard of this with warfarin. There are other heart and blood pressure-type drugs that occasionally do have this side effect, though. If it has happened to you, you might consider whether another one of your medications could possibly to be the cause. If you will do an internet search for a list of photosensitive medications, you will find a number of drugs that can cause photosensitivity as a side effect.
Avatar f tn Another good one is Tirosint, which is a gelcap and contains only glycerine, water, Levothyroxine and gelatin. Tirosint tends to be the most expensive, but the manufacturer has programs for those who qualify. Is TSH the only thyroid related blood test that's being performed regularly? What about Free T4 and Free T3? Those are the actual thyroid hormones.
Avatar n tn I've had retinal tear laser surgery in both eyes, cataract implant in one. Retinal doctor doesn't see anything worrisome presently. I am very photosensitive, and images stay on my retina for the longest time. I suppose that's the same as saying my dark adaptation is poor? Bright lights are horrible for me, and bleach my surroundings momentarily. Do you have any thoughts re this? Thank you. I am a 57 yo male.
Avatar m tn This is caused by external triggers like lotions, creams and soaps used on the face. Chemical photosensitivity may also be a differential here. This type of photosensitivity may occur once chemicals on the face react with the UV coming from the sun. I suggest that you have this evaluated further. Dermatitis is a chronic and recurrent process and may be present for a time. There is also no single therapy for this.

149675 tn?1416673133 I have skimmed through the pegasys and copegus website and could not find anything. I am curious if it is true and what if you use SPF 50 and sit under an umbrella. Not to mention mowing the lawn, washing the car, fishing with the kids, canoeing, etc... It sure would stink to miss out on all of that good stuff not to mention who wants to be a hermit all summer.
Avatar n tn I had macular hole repair and was told that I had a photosensitivity reaction to the dye and the lights used during the surgery. It was refered to like a burn of the retina. I was wondering if the retina ever heals from something like this ?
Avatar f tn To reduce the risk of an error, prescribers should print all orders for Lanoxin and levothyroxine and include the purpose for each drug on all prescriptions. Both the mg dose and the mcg conversion should be listed in all levothyroxine orders and on product labels, such as "levothyroxine 100 mcg (0.1 mg)" or "Synthroid 0.1 mg (100 mcg).
