Avatar f tn I've been on methadone for 3 years and decided to try and lose a little weight. Only want to lose like 25 lbs. Started taking phentermine a week ago. Docter tested my thyoid level it was low so now I'm taking levothyroxine. First couple days were fine but when I added the thyroid medicine I started getting headaches and just not feeling right. Should I continue all three medicines? I really want to lose the weight! What should I do?
Avatar n tn m not sure I would jump to a conclusion about methadone causing your hypothyroid symptoms, but it can definitely elevate your T3 and T4 levels. To find the study, just Google methadone and thyroid.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Hypothyroid a year ago and was given 150mcg of levothyroxine. Everything seemed towork out and I started losing weight and all that good stuff... Then I quit taking methadone 3 months ago (after being on it for almost 8 years for an injuy) and my body/mind have recovered from issues I didnt even realise I was experiencing while on the methadone.. My point bieing.... Im starting to think my body has recovered my thyroid also..
1264367 tn?1408104163 I have gastroparesis, and GERD, and am on methadone maintenance. I noticed I started having problems as soon as I started the Methadone Clinic, 3 yrs ago. I recently had an endoscopy and waiting on the biopsy results. I'm so sick of not being able to eat anything. I'm living off of oatmeal and can't over eat. But it's not over eating because I've been starving. I can only eat a small bowl of oatmeal before I take my methadone and then another small one for lunch.
Avatar n tn Hey girl I've been on methadone for 5 years. It slows down your metabolism and your digestive track. Also, most people who take methadone have cravings for sugary foods and/or chocolates. The first year I gained maybe 10 pounds and also had a baby while on it. The next year 10 or 15. Basiclly I was pregnant 5'7" and 137lbs in 2005. Now I am around 170. Most of it is in my gut. All the time people are asking if I am pregnant. Another side effect is no sex drive.
Avatar f tn Another good one is Tirosint, which is a gelcap and contains only glycerine, water, Levothyroxine and gelatin. Tirosint tends to be the most expensive, but the manufacturer has programs for those who qualify. Is TSH the only thyroid related blood test that's being performed regularly? What about Free T4 and Free T3? Those are the actual thyroid hormones.
Avatar m tn hey docs. i was treated recently for ngu and a testi infection. 750 mg of levaquen for 28 days. but this is what i read. The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) sertraline (ZOLOFT), widely prescribed for depression, has been associated with a decrease in the effect of levothyroxine. i take zolaft 100 mg daily. i still have testi pain and burning. i am now bieng treated with diflucan for 7 days for a yeast infection. should i be worried. do u think my ngu was wiped out.
Avatar f tn To reduce the risk of an error, prescribers should print all orders for Lanoxin and levothyroxine and include the purpose for each drug on all prescriptions. Both the mg dose and the mcg conversion should be listed in all levothyroxine orders and on product labels, such as "levothyroxine 100 mcg (0.1 mg)" or "Synthroid 0.1 mg (100 mcg).
Avatar n tn levothyroxine and foot and toe cramps. Existing damage to lumber due to spinal infection that tumored and surround spinal cord and root nurves.
Avatar f tn But my appt with him is next week and I will tell him I want t3 and t4 test besides TSH.. I have stopped the levothyroxine for this past week and my hips are really feeling alot better..so I am thinking it has something to do with that med.
649688 tn?1276871161 I take 50mg of levothyroxine for a border line underactive. Have no ovaries or womb and settled on HRT years ago as a result. Have never ever had bad skin. Until 5 - 6 months after taking Levothyroxine. The amount I take has stopped the terrible frightening symptoms I had. All of my family and friends and myself are so happy that I am now 'normal'. But what about this acne at 43 years of age ?????
Avatar f tn But this week my weight started shooting up again my stomach is bloated and I am getting headaches and feeling very dizzy . I checked my blood pressure in cvs and it came to 140/100 which i understand is stage 1 hypertension. I haven't had hypertension before. Is his bcoz of levothyroxine ? I have my next appointment only in June. Will it be advisable to check with my doctor before that.
Avatar f tn I had my blood tested and then retested for hypothyroidism. MY TSH was 5.6 the first time. This last test included a T3 and T4 profile. I do not know what these last results were, but my PCP put me on 25 mcg of levothyroxine (after the results of this last test). I had a bout with AFib last year (just the one time) and they think it was caused by anxiety. One of the side effects of the levothyroxine is irregular heartbeat.
1685558 tn?1305388557 My father took 150 micrograms levothyroxine for a year and was 150 micrograms of TSH, T3 and T4 normal, but now has a very low TSH and normal T3 and T4. The doctor lowered the dose of levothyroxine and will now take a dose of 100 micrograms, like me, that I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but I'm so much thinner and smaller than him. Is this normal? The doctor asks only TSH, T4 and T3, should not ask ultrasonography and thyroglobulin?
332168 tn?1201026915 Currently I take 137 of Levothyroxine and 25 mcg of Cytomel. I was taking a half tablet in the morning and once in the early afternoon, but I couldn't manage to remember to take the afternoon dose in a timely fashion, and sometimes was kept up at night. I asked my doctor about just upping the Levo and dropping the cytomel, but he seems to think that it's best I'm on both. So I now take the entire dose in the morning and I find this works great for me.

Does this explain why I have been having increased sweating, poor memory and poor thought process. Also having alot of aches and soreness in my knees and hands.

Avatar n tn Is it OK to use phentermine and levothyroxine together? If not what diet medications are safe to use with levothyroxine? I suffer with such low energy, even though my levels are good.

Avatar f tn I have been taking levothyroxine to treat my thyroid problem, I am up to 125mcg. I find no side affects listed about skin problems, but I sure am having them. Anyone have any input?
Avatar n tn In terms of taking levothyroxine and cold medications -- there is usually not a problem provided that the thyroid levels are normal. The concern comes primarily if you have an over-active thyroid, which does not appear to be the case for your daughter. There have been recent concerns about children's cold medications and safety in general. Check with her pediatrician to see what is recommended. Taking the levothyroxine is not likely to influence the choice of cold meds though.
Avatar f tn I had blood work done twice to check (and then recheck to make sure) that I had hypothyroidism My first reading was 5.6. She then ordered the full thyroid screen including T3 ad T4 profiles and put me on 25 mcg of Levothyroxine daily. I don't know the level in last blood test. I took the first one today. I had an episode of AFib one year ago (anxiety related). On this dosage I was told chances are very low that it will bring on AFib.
Avatar m tn I have another question regarding Levothyroxine. I've been on it for 5 weeks now and for the most part the only positive difference I've noticed is having more energy. The cons of things I've been feeling are muscle pains, menstrual cycle changes and digestion. Can Levothyroxine cause constipation or mess up your digestion in any way? I've been having a lot of abdominal pain for the past week and my stomach is just gurgling really loudly when I eat.
474189 tn?1211184460 Have recently been diagnosed with Hashi and have started on levothyroxine but I have noticed since I started taking it that I get chronic heartburn - especially at night making it difficult to sleep, but it attacks me at any time of the day and it gets so bad I just want to curl up in a ball and tell the world to go away ! Does anyone have this problem, is it a common side affect, will it stop as my body gets used to taking the meds or should I be revisiting my GP?
Avatar f tn That's really hard to predict since we all react very differently to meds. It takes four to five weeks for a dose to stabilize in your system since T4 builds up over time (of course, your levels should be improving during this time, so some symptoms may be relieved). It can also take a while for your body to heal if you've suffered any damage from being hypo. So, you should be retested in about five weeks.
Avatar m tn I take levothyroxine 1/2 hour before my early morning run and have noticed sometimes heart disturbances in the later in the day... I am not sure if levothyroxine is too blame or should I wait 1 hour before doing my running? Currently take 150mg x3 and 100mg x 4 per week and TSH 0.18 Have you experience the same thing? I'm 43 and don't want to damage my heart!
