1303999 tn?1279581926 I did a search for drug interactions and found that hypoglygemic agents (metformin) and insulin may be diminished by certain drugs; there's a whole list of them, but thyroid hormones, is one on the list, that's why your instructions said you might have to alter your diabetes med. 898_1 -- that's interesting about metformin suppressing TSH if one has TPO antibodies.
Avatar f tn In the beginning all I took was one tablet of Metformin per day. 10 years later,I am now taking 6 medicines. Metformin, Telmisartan, Meloxicam, Levothyroxine, Hydrochlorothiazine and Atorvastatin. I have recently been looking online at some of the drug interaction checkers, and what i find is alarming. So many of these drugs, seem to not be so compatible with one another, and most lead to kidney trouble. I have not want to be on dialysis.
Avatar n tn I am just wondering if there are any problems with drug interactions between Metformin and OTC meds like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Midol, Unisom, Allergy/Sinus meds, etc... Common things that a person might take for pain, sleeplessness, allergies, colds, etc?
1660049 tn?1326089018 To be safe, buy your vitamins at a pharmacy and speak to a Pharmacist (not a tech, the actual Doctor of Pharmacy or PharmD) about the medication you are taking and any possible interactions with the vitamins you are considering. If you start taking fertility drugs, make sure your doc knows about all your medications. Good luck to you!
2208415 tn?1339081413 Well, I have been taking metformin and levothyroxine for a while so my body had time to get used to it...Metformin probably more than 2 years and Levothyroxine around 1 year. My recent blood tests showed that my hormone levels are within normal range... The worst is that I still do not feel well....And sweating- I actually thought that it is overactive thyroid which may cause us sweating, palpitations etc. not underactive...
Avatar f tn Other medications are metformin 500mg twice daily, Lisinopril 40mg(morning), Trazodone 50. Recently I take tadalafil 10mg and my blood sugar goes very low. I also tried 2.5mg daily at night, again my blood sugar goes very low. I wear a freestyle libre patch. What medications are interacts with tadalafil? Is Viagra will be safe for me?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what type of reaction one is likely to get by mixing Metformin and Victoza with meds for Hep C? These are non insulin meds. I am particularly interested in the interaction with Victoza which is a good stabilizer. Both of these meds can cause some stomach distress.
878888 tn?1319634044 but this last time my fasting level was 118 and my a1c came back 6.5. She said now I was diabetic and put me on Metformin 500 xr once a day and told me to lose weight. I forgot to mention she was concerned I gained 16 lbs within same time period (even with change of diet and exercise). I am also Hypothyroid and on Levothyroxine 115 mg. I have 2 questions, If I take Metformin with evening meal and thyroid in am is there still a chance for interaction?
708731 tn?1229049180 I would look at the birth control pill in relation to your thyroid medication and disease, and also the consequences of mixing the birth control and the Prozac. You may find that switching birth control will allow for treatment other than Prozac. Just a thought, but I think it has merit. Keeping up on your bloodwork and getting stable at the correct level is the best medicine. If Prozac helps short term, go for it. I'm taking xanax.
Avatar f tn It is generally recommended that people not use metformin and alcohol at the same time. Taking metformin and alcohol together can increase your risk of developing a life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis. Talk with your PCP if he/she permits "small amounts" of alcohol while taking metformin. If he/she does, you better have explained what "small amounts" means to them before you blindly consume too much alcohol.
Avatar n tn clomid, metformin and levothyroxine ( For PCOS and Thyroid problems). I have never taken clomid and metformin together before. So I was wondering whether this combination may cause PMS symptoms like sore breasts.
Avatar f tn testosterone levels all are within range, but my TSI and TPO are high. TSI is 161, TPO is 77. I am on Levothyroxine 50 mg/1x day and Metformin 500 mg/2x day. So far the Levothyroxine is not mixing well with my system as it is causing extreme fatigue and crankiness. On the otherhand, the metformin is working wonders. It is helping with my weight loss and eating less. So my question is.. what would cause the conflicting results of the TSI and TPO? Is it Graves Disease or Hashimotos? or both???
Avatar m tn Likewise, I was never told to avoid taking anything with my levothyroxine besides food and calcium/multivitamin (basically just not at the same time, but I could still have a multivitamin). I've also never had a problem taking benedryl (besides that it knocks me out) or any other drug with my hypothyroid meds. If you're on a drug for your hypothyroidism, there is this nifty tool at the top- under drugs, you can find drug interaction.
878888 tn?1319634044 thanks for your response, yes I have been researching and found alot of different advice, some of it contradicts itself too. Glad about the metformin and levo.
Avatar f tn Not everyone can tolerate the same medication. Your doctor should have pulled you immediately off Metformin and have you try one of the other 5 classes of oral diabetes medication. When filling your prescription always ask for a consultation with the Pharmacist to understand the drugs side effects. Call your doctor and stop taking any drug if you experience serious side effect/s.
Avatar m tn unfortunatly i had to stop the medication as it wasnt going well with my levothyroxine for my thyroid, but if you only have polycystic ovaries and no other heaalth problems. its worth asking your doctor to start you on 3 month course and see how you.
Avatar f tn Right now, I am taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo to regulate testosterone, Metformin for Insulin resistance and levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism. With that said, I have never had a thyroid ultrasound, and have had a hard, fixed right supraclavicular lymph node for about 8 months. It is about the size of a pea, and I have been told that it is not considered enlarged. All the doctor's I have seen (pcp, endo, gastroentorologist), have said they will keep an eye on it.
863754 tn?1239144755 No clinically significant drug-drug interactions have been identified with metformin. However, physiological changes resulting from smoking cessation may alter the pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics of insulin; dosage adjustments may be necessary.
Avatar m tn Walk into the pharmacy that dispensed your metformin, and ask to speak to the pharmacist. Present them your story as they understand interactions, and have ready access to databases of information on how these drugs may react and the training to interpret it. Next time you get dosed, ask again to speak with the physician, and be prepared to wait. Squeaky wheel.
878888 tn?1319634044 08 last test, But she put me on Metformin xr 500 for diabetes. I was wondering if anyone else takes this med along with levothyroxine and if it effects your thyroid management. I have gained 16 lbs back since January and want make sure I don't keep gaining. Ps. I work on my feet and walk about 9000 steps a day, plus have changed my diet and am counting carbs.
Avatar m tn A lot depends on current health status and associated drugs/medicines currently taken as some drugs cause interactions with other drugs which can raise glucose levels. GIYF - Google Is Your Friend - use it to locate specific drug interactions and/or contraindications.
Avatar f tn Hello, I just started taking Liothyronine 5mcg twice daily generic for cytomel on Sunday 8/2, today Monday I feel nauseated and have had a little diareha. Could it just be from the first day of taking it? Does anyone else experience nausea at first and then go away?
Avatar n tn my husband (60) has Type II diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol which are being managed very well by Lipitor, Lisenpril, Actos and Metformin. Before he was diagnosed (2004) we enjoyed Ecstasy maybe once every 1 or 2 yrs. It was an amazing experience for both of us, our relationship, our communication. As older adults we managed the experience (reliable source for E, hydration, calm location) carefully and respectfully.
