Avatar f tn Hi all, Could someone confirm how long after taking thyroid can you take your calcium citrate and magnesium? I am taking this for my bones, but also for heart palpitations as per info from the message boards. I know you have to wait a certain time after thyroid to take these. Can someone let me know?
Avatar n tn The biggest thing I notice is that "it works" - the others didn't. I'm not a chemist, so I can't really tell you the chemical difference between the citrate and the oxide forms, but I've read several articles stating that the citrate form is much more readily absorbed by the body.
Dinosaur Also, it is recommended you separate taking iron-containing multivitamins and/or calcium supplements and levothyroxine by at least 4 hours. Thank you, Dr.
2120085 tn?1344765910 Symptoms of magnesium toxicity include irregular heartbeat, diarrhea, nausea, appetite loss, muscle weakness, very low blood pressure, difficulty breathing and changes in mental state. Magnesium supplements can interact with antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, blood pressure medications, diabetes medication, levothyroxine, anti-malaria drugs and osteoporosis medications.
427801 tn?1203844562 my question is, some of these are supposed to be taken at certain times/doses and some should or cant be taken with other items (i.e. calcium). so im looking to get as much input as possible into the dosing, dosing schedule, and counterindications of other meds/foods.
219522 tn?1251760629 I hate those big calcium pills, I have to take calcium citrate cause I had gastric bypass 6 years ago, calcium citrate is the only calcium that gastric bypass patients can absorb. I have had the lips and fingers tingling also,,its scary....
Avatar m tn Hi, a better alternative to calcium carbonate is calcium citrate, as calcium carbonate can cause the cramps you experienced. Calcium usually causes constipation. You also need to be taking magnesium with the calcium. Magnesium helps the body absorb calcium and also helps to prevent the stomach upsets. Another cause for your symptoms could be turnips which you re introduced into your diet.
Avatar n tn Drinking water is a great way to dilute the concentration of calcium in your urine and help it wash out instead of precipitate and form a stone. Citrate is a substance that binds with calcium to prevent it from precipitating and forming a stone as well and citrate levels are just as important as calcium levels. If you citrate is low and calcium is high in your urine, then supplementation can help prevent calcium stone formation.
Avatar f tn Before I can answer your question, tell me how many mg is your calcium tablet and also with the D. Caltrate or Calcium Citrate comes with D but you may want more D than that. Also let me know just how much Vit.C and D you want to take. I heard on a commercial that Calcium Citrate absorbs better than plain calcium. Personally, I don't know the difference but my endocronologist told me the same thing.
773755 tn?1328119777 Most Americans get too much calcium, too little magnesium and too little vitamin D now that everyone's indoors all the time, and too little of the trace minerals such as boron that used to be easily obtained in food but might not be if you eat chemically farmed food.
Avatar m tn I have found very good relief from PVC's by taking 1 Tbsp of Calcium Citrate (Liquid calcium) two times daily with meals. I think a significant number of people's PVC's are caused by mineral deficiencies, especially calcium, but probably also magnesium and potassium. Be sure to take the liquid citrate type calcium (not calcium carbonate which doesn't absorb as easily) and don't exceed the daily recommended amount.
1035021 tn?1296820707 1 magnesium citrate to calcium citrate or a 2:1 magnesium to calcium, and see if it helps -- the reason for the combo is to make sure you don't leach out your calcium, but it's higher than the recommended 2:1 calcium to magnesium ratio. Good luck.
Avatar m tn anyway they re right on calcium and partially wrong on vit D, vitamin k2 mk4 or mk7 is what can fix calcium to bones (other minerals are also more important than calcium) and lower fractures, there are some triasl with results on this.
583252 tn?1289094490 Hi again. I take 4 x 600mgs Calcium citrate. I take two in the afternoon and two at night. I know for a fact Caltrate tablets are not tolerated by many people. My pharmacist said he is trying to get people to take Calcium citrate. I took Caltrate and that was the one that made me feel nauseous. Now I changed to calcium citrate I feel less nausea. Make sure you take the calcium at least 4 hours after your thyroid medication. They interfere with each other.
219609 tn?1210348114 m taking a water tablets for my high calcium problem, and doctor did not tell me this would cause a low postasssium problem, and getting more tired and weaker by the day, and the dizzy spells are returning, so hoping taking Mag, and Potassium supplements would help,,and experience here
Avatar m tn CA was 11 only the first time I measured on 26th september and ca was 12 on 27th september. Now I took 2 tablets of supracal 200 units which had 200 IU of D3 and calcium citrate of around 1000 mg. Ca can't go from 11 to 12 in one day so I think my supplements made it high. Can this raise your calcium from 11 to 12 in one day ? I'm not sure on which date I took those supplements but maybe on 26th september I took 2 tablets.
Avatar f tn I don't know what normal range is, but if you think you're low then try a calcium citrate supplement and see what happens. The problem with testing for levels of any nutrient is that doctors only test the once, whereas levels vary throughout the day and the week and the month and the year. A holistic nutritionist might test over a couple of months to see what your levels truly are, but it's pretty easy and harmless to try supplementing with 400mg and see what happens.
Avatar n tn The body system that uses the magnesium tends to deplete calcium and vice versa. Many take the minerals together, but this is not as effective for either IBS or migraine disorders.
Avatar n tn The thyroid problem came first. Synthetic medication destroys the thyroid, so it's a life-long condition. I need calcium for osteopenia, early stage of osteoporosis. I was told to get at least 1200 mg of calcium, in the citrate form so as not to interfere with the thyroid replacement med. Citracal was specified, but in its 12 hour release form (supposedly more easily assimilated), it's mostly calcium carbonate, not all calcium citrate. thus my question.
Avatar f tn When and at what dose should levothyroxine be taken after the non-cancerous total thyroidectomy is preformed? No previous thyroid supression was taken. What is your recomendation on calcium and vitamin D replacement? Immediate and life long. Also who prescibes the intital replacement, the surgeon or the endocrinologist? When is the first follow up appointment with the endocrinologist after the surgery?
Avatar n tn I have been having elevated calcium lately, I just noticed on my bottle of Peri-colace that each tablet contains 20mg of calcium and I usually take four a day so would 60mg a day of calcium cause high blood calcium levels? Is 60mg alot of calcium to take?
Avatar n tn It is normal to get the buzzing, tingles, cramps, etc to some degree for the first few weeks until your body adjusts to the lower calcium levels...If it really bad, then get liquid calcium (if it calcium citrate, it absorbs more completely.) Are you on antiacids or acid suppressing meds? If so, this will hamper the calcium absorption a bit...Once again, if it is calcium citrate, it will absorb better because it is already "acidified"...
