Levothyroxine and breast tenderness

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine and breast tenderness

I have breast tenderness and swelling that is cyclical (monthly) and that's how they found a nodule in my breast and a cyst. I have to have 6 month mammograms (have had 2 and my 3rd will be June). I take Armour thyroid and have been diagnosed with hashi (normal blood tests and neg antibodies - I have a swelling gland that is non-smooth texture) and have what the doc has labeled chronic EBV. Don't know if any of it is related, but I am starting to think so.
I also had horrible head and neck aches with a constant cranial pressure. I had extreme breast tenderness. My memory was very impaired and I began to stutter and mispronounce words or use the wrong word all together. My coordination also suffered. After 4 days I switched from the generic levothyroxine to brand name Synthroid. This did alleviate my side effects but only slightly.
Almost all the oddities began AFTER I started taking levothyroxine, and yet overall, it has seemed to me that I was deteriorating rapidly into unwellness anyway, and levothyroxine has been a good thing...but oh, the ups and downs have been something else again. AppleJacs, I am glad that you have a physician you trust, and I am glad that she has referred you to an endocrinologist.
Sounds like medication induced mild hyperthyroidism with alteration in menses. The breast tenderness is not typical, but possible. I do not think the fibroid will shrink with a higher levothyroxine dose. Consider holding out for another month or so and rechecking labs, consult with thyroid expert and make sure you are on the right track....if nodule still >= 1cm, do an FNA.
Two symptoms I just can't shake that seem VERY weird and unique--extreme breast tenderness and scalp tenderness. I can't tell for sure what came first, but I think they coincided with my hypothyroid diagnosi. Or are they levo side effects? Have checked many other possible causes and have come up with nada.
would it behoove me to change medications or brands or go to perhaps Armour? I do have breast tenderness and feel as if I just may get my period, but don't. No, I am not pregnant. I am also 49, but am not menopausal - perhaps perimenopausal. I know my progesterone levels are lower, but my estrogen is normal. Any suggestions what is going on? Thanks for any feedback.
I used to have my periods like clock work every 28 days. The first day of my last period was April 28, I have breast tenderness and low back is achy. These are my normal period symptoms but still no period and I am about a week late. Do I need to have my thyroid checked again? What is going on, I am also extremely emotional and dealt with a some depression in February. My memory has changed, it is worse than it used to be; like remembering peopl's names that I should know.
no period for 6 months lactating but now just a regular discharge with extreme tenderness and heaviness extreme pressure and headaches in my head weight gain!!!! without even trying...I'm a broke student numbness in my hands difficulty digesting food-heart races after a meal and what I can only assume is gall bladder pain-brutal joint pain in my feet I feel like I'm losing my mind.
it also happends during and after intercourse. I have been tested for STD's and everything was all negative I have even had an ultrasound done and nothing. I am waiting to get a pap done. Anyways I am sooo frusterated and have been reading alot about cervical cancer so now I am scared that I might be having symptoms of cervical cancer. But I am also thinking it may just be the endometriosis or that other thing. I did have Human Papiloma Virus years ago...no problems for about 9 years now.
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
20-70). i am also hypothyroid and take Levothyroxine 50mcg since dec.2008. my current lab level of TSH was 1.45, all other also normal. my female hormones are in range too. all my other blood test CBC CMP etc. were normal too, some to the lower side, but still in range. have irregular periods since always, lucky to have 2 boys. had always some cysts on my ovaries which always caused pain or not and went away on their own. but was hard to even get pregnant.
Drugs.com indicates the following possible issues with your prescribed meds, including what sounds like a slightly swollen esophagus - "Stop using levothyroxine and get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Went to the docs today and he wants me to come off Levothyroxine for 1 month and see what happens. Has anyone had this kind of problem before and if so what was the outcome? Hope this makes sense!!

We started with Endo with 100 mcg of Levothyroxine and than i seem to have improvement but still have Neuropathy and Muscles weakness , went again to Neurologist thought could be Mysthania Gravis but it wasn't based on Ab test . In Jan2007 My doctor started to Cytomel 5mcg x2/day plus levoxyl 75mcg/day and also ran b12 test and found my b12 level was 285 so he gave me Hydrocobolium Inject 1000mcg /day x7, 1000mcg x1/7 days and 1000mcg x1/15 days .
My two other daughters are hypo but one has a low TSH and can't get treatment from her doctor. Without Levothyroxine she is very sick. There are going to be a lot of really sick people out there if the TSH is raised higher which will cause people to self diagnose and get their treatment via the internet. Out of necessity! Did you notice this became a rant??!! Sorry. Yes, really helpful, informative site.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's a year ago and put on levothyroxine. I've gained a lot of weight and am always exhausted. Is it the meds or the thyroiditis? Also, I have a couple of nodules but the diagnosing doctor said he was just going to monitor them for a while. My secondary problem seems to be getting his office staff to take my questions, and the timely refills of my meds seriously. I ordered the refill a week ago, I am completely out, and the office still hasn't okayed the refill.
I still had sore breast and fatigue. If you're really worried about it talk to your Dr. and see if they'll do u/s to check it out. Have you seen the heartbeat yet? I hope you aren't going through this. It sucks. Good thoughts for you and your baby!!!
The doctor put me on clomid for the first time this month and i got my progesterone level yesterday and it was a 32, so I guess there is a chance that I am pregnant. I am having a few symptoms like breast tenderness, nausea and fatigue, and I shouldn't start my AF until october 4 so I feel these symptoms are to early just for that so hopefully it means I am pregnant. So I will find out no sooner then Friday. Cross your fingers for me girls!!!
but what is a body builders main goal ? and how they get paid.. ?? its how low and lil fat they carry..and odd..they inject every steroid there is..HGH & INSULIN..but odd..no HCG. My Father passed away last April of Small Cell Lung Cancer, my Mother is in Remission for Throat Cancer and two Aunts are in Remission for Breast Cancer. I am very concerned. I am a black female with P.C.O.S. and pre-diabetic. I am also obese. I have never dated and married my husband the day I agreed to meet and marry him as per my religion. I get dizzy when I'm on my period and am frightened that I have Cancer and just feel the symptoms early as did my Mother. M Father ignored his.
We too are April ivf'ers ^_^ I started Lupron March 20th, and start Follistim and Repronex this evening. We are looking at retrieval April 1st or 2nd. We live in Alaska and will be traveling to Seattle for this........
I've been to vascular surgeons, cardiologists. hand surgeons and regular md's and no one can help me. This just happened again to my thumb after 10 years and my cardiologist prescribed high blood pressure meds...and I DON'T have high blood pressure, I've been running for 25 years! If anyone has a diagnosis please share...I know your frustration.
Anytime I eat any foods with B1, B3 or B6 in them, I'm in extreme pain for the next 6 or so hours. My hands and feet are always tingly, but by far and away is the extreme breast pain. It feels like someone's driving nails into my breasts with a hammer. Compression, a very very tight sports bra over my regular bra, is the only thing that lessens the pain.
Occasionally, these symptoms, if severe, may signal an allergy to benzoyl peroxide, and often include swelling, itching or tenderness. Dilute an over-the-counter, cream-based hydrocortisone cream with a little water to treat existing irritation. Allergy aside, the skin will adjust to benzoyl peroxide over a period of a few weeks. A proteolytic enzyme, Enzyme Exfoliating Masque Celazome, used as an exfoliant will temporarily remove flaky skin.
