The active ingredient in levothyroxine and levothroid is the same; however, each manufacturer uses different fillers/binders to make the pills. Some people can have reaction to those. I agree that there is debate over the use of generic vs brand name. I actually did better on generic levo than I did synthroid, but everyone is different.

I've been on Thyroid Meds (Levothroid) .125mcg for about 7 years. My last physical showed my TSH level at around 3.0 uIU/ml. Kaiser Medical uses a 0.4-4.00 uIU/ml as their "TSH Standard Range" I had another physical and blood test in Feb this year. My TSH levels were 8.2 with Free T4 at 0.89 (0.70-1.48 ng/dL) "normal range". My PCP started me on a new dosage of Levothroid .050mcg which I took for about 3 weeks. With this new doseage my TSH levels increase to 0.84.

You should remember that I did start you on levothroid and I have been reducing your medication dose for last few years from 100 mcg a day as far as I can remember to the current 75 mcg 1/2 tab daily. I also refer you to endocrinology few years ago and Dr. ******* did your thyroid biopsy but did not give advice about whether you should take more or less levothroid. Well, I went to the doc and she was reluctant to run any new tests on me....ugggg Kaiser. she did get an MRA which was negative.....I told her to humor me and switch me back to whatever brand levothyroxine kaiser is using because I felt better on the batch I had right after surgery. It cost me $30 as opposed to $4 at Wal-Mart. When I got the bottle home, I had the stock bottle because Kaiser fills 90 days at a time.

I am 32 and we r planning for a baby now. Hello. I had a total thyoidectomy in 1995 and have been on a suppressive dose of Levothroid ever since. I have already developed osteoporosis, which I have been told is most likely connected to the Levothroid dosage. I have been working really hard with my weight-loss, I exercise more than most people I know in my weight loss group, 65oz of water per day, 20-25 carbs, Veggies, Lean meats, no sugars, you name it, I've been doing it. After the diagnosis of Hashimitos (I already have cholitis), I have been taking 75mcg levothroid and the node disappeared. None of my symptoms have disappeared, however. 49 (in the past we have kept her around 1.0). Her current dose is 125 mcg. of Levothroid. The last Doctor we sent her to stated that her levels were normal despite how she feels & weighs. So, the GP and I decided to lower my levothroid to 112 mcg. My TSH was about .67 at the time. The lowered levothroid seemed to help with the anxiety and dry skin and teeth grinding. I did not feel better, just different; it is hard to explain. Then, after 7 months, my TSH came back at 4.63. Yikes! Doc and I upped dose back to 125mcg. Within two weeks, the anxiety came back as well as the floating weird feelings and the headaches were nonstop.
