Avatar f tn Was dx with Graves disease almost 12 yrs ago and had the radioactive iodine treatment at that time. Was placed on thyroid medication and seemed to tolerate it with no problems with allergic reactions. For the past 5 months I've been dealing with medication problems and difficulty adjusting my thyroid levels. It went over active and then underactive. I've been on both generic and brand name Levothyroxine.
Avatar n tn I have enough to last me till March but I am not pleased with trying to find something else to use after that with might interfere with my suppression as it needs to stays constant without incurring additional side effects. If you can suggest a good compound pharmacy that could make that levoxyl using the same fillers they use that would be what i am looking for. I know that Synthroid is basically the same but it appears to be the fillers that cause most of the problems. Thanks....
1263014 tn?1318032697 He has had other patients with the same problems, so one night he took the inactive ingredient lists home from both types and did and entire spread sheet with fillers and possible reactions and side effects. For example, some contain lactose and if a patient is lactose intolerant that may cause a reaction. One cheap filler that is famous for reactions is talc and is used in most OTC drugs. It Is rare he says, but does happen.
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed last year. I am on 300mcg of levothyroxine. I have had no side effects, except my body doesn't seem to be converting the T4 to T3 effectively. I'm going to endo next week and suggesting a natural thyroid, such as Amour. Amour is derived from pig thyroid, so as long as you aren't allergic to pork, maybe you should try a natural approach, instead of synthetic.
1201433 tn?1328997637 This is not a side effect of Levothyroxine. What could be happening is the medication for thyroid may not be balancing the thyroid out correctly and throwing off other hormones causing this issue. My thought would be to ask for a full round of tests. Thyroid FT3 and FT4, FSH/LH - DHEA, A1C and your metobolic panel labs.

Avatar f tn It may be a combination of both stabilizing on the med itself and having the condition of hypothyroidism in general. Many sufferers have this issue as I can personally contest too. I do not have these "real time" dreams at all since getting my Armour thyroid right - along with becoming optimal with my condition. Do you have anxiety with your condition too? Most people that have built up anxiety issues from the hypo will say these dreams are more vivid.
Avatar n tn what is the difference between levothyroxine and thyroxine if they both are the same dosage.
Avatar f tn Tirosint contains only 4 ingredients - levothyroxine, gelatin, glycerin, and water. There is no know reaction to the levothyroxine itself. If anyone did have an actual allergy to the fillers they can have a compounding pharmacy make up medication with just the levothyroxine in it. That said, you can really suffer when starting medication. I found this out the hard way when I first started thyroxine.

428837 tn?1250007204 ) Plus, I pointed out to them that, should I be compelled to take the generic form, I will also have to take Atenolol and Amitriptyline to control the side effects I have when taking it, which is also evidenced by the records they have on me.
Avatar f tn My doctor switched me to levothroid made by forest and it was awesome no side effects no swelling in my tongue or throat. I had no swallowing problems. But, now that the forest company has had some legal problems with the FDA they are no longer making levothroid or any of the drugs they manufacture. I have tried the generic brand for levothroid.
Avatar f tn t have any side effects. Side effects of thyroid meds are generally related to over- or under-medication. Some people do have sensitivity to the fillers in the various tablets.
Avatar f tn Had a large tumor and total thyroidectomy removed 3 weeks ago. The past few days having dull but strong headaches that go into my ear, down my jaw into my neck. I'm taking 100 mcg of Levothyroxine a day and 2 Calcitrol a day. My calcium was very low after surgery.
Avatar f tn I had the same issues when I first started taking levothyroxine. Everyone kept telling me that the levo doesn't cause side effects, but I felt like I drank about 25 cups of coffee when I took it! That was 50mcg, my doctor kept increasing the dosage because my TSH was so high. Between 300 and 800. with every increase I just felt worse. I have Hashimoto's Encephalopathy which is a lot different from HD, but still effects the thyroid.
899045 tn?1241824973 I have been working really hard with my weight-loss, I exercise more than most people I know in my weight loss group, 65oz of water per day, 20-25 carbs, Veggies, Lean meats, no sugars, you name it, I've been doing it. I am also HypoThyroid and on 50mcg of Levothroid. My weight loss had been a upward battle, very hard battle. Anyhow, I spoke to a Dr. on the phone (My Dr. is out on leave), she looked at my chart and said that as we get older, we exercise less. I am only 35.
