Levothroid medication synthroid

Common Questions and Answers about Levothroid medication synthroid

synthroid

Avatar f tn The hives could be a reaction to the binders/fillers in the Levothroid. You might want to talk to your doctor about changing brand of medication. If you're in the US, maybe you could switch to Synthroid or something.
Avatar f tn Was dx with Graves disease almost 12 yrs ago and had the radioactive iodine treatment at that time. Was placed on thyroid medication and seemed to tolerate it with no problems with allergic reactions. For the past 5 months I've been dealing with medication problems and difficulty adjusting my thyroid levels. It went over active and then underactive. I've been on both generic and brand name Levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn Hope someone can help. I have had low to no thyroid function all my life. I was on synthroid made by "flint" from the age of 4. When flint stopped making it I had to switch to the now "synthroid brand and have had several allergic reactions. My doctor switched me to levothroid made by forest and it was awesome no side effects no swelling in my tongue or throat. I had no swallowing problems.
Avatar n tn In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar n tn 140 in the past year (is that because I started taking my calcium at a different time of day than my Synthroid??) but my T3 and T4 levels have remained fairly stable....Free Thyroxine Index 3.5,...T3 Uptake 30...Thyroxine-T4 11.6. My MD has reduced my Synthroid, which I have taken for 44 years, from .150 mg to .1375 mg. I have no hyperthyroid symptoms and am actually colder and more tired than I used to be. The inability to decrease my weight continues to be an issue.
Avatar m tn I was on as much as 300+ of the synthroid, levothroid, whatever else. When I was 1st diagnosed, I was on as many as 16 pills a day. My body was not absorbing the medication. I was finally put on levothyroxine, an injection form of the levothyroid. This was able to be absorbed into my system with 2 shots every other day. Now, this medication is no longer available and I was back to square one. A shot in the dark led my doctor to thyroid armour.
Avatar n tn Levothroid, Levoxyl, Levo-T, Synthroid, and Unithroid are all name brand Levothyroxine drugs. I may be missing a whole other group of drugs, but you may be able to find one of the above. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with hashimotos. The dr is telling me it's most likely from the severe viral infection i had in feb. I do have goiters also, but was told that when they enlarge i can switch between hypo/hyper and that over time my body will kill my own thyroid and i will become hypo. Is there really a need for me to take synthroid 25mcg for hashimotos? and will it go away.
Avatar m tn If you take Synthroid/Levothroid etc.. To soon after you've eaten or eat food high in Vitamin C (broccoli) etc ..... You could deplete all your medicine. It is very important to take your medicine one hour before meals or two hours after your meals. This will safety allow proper absorption.
Avatar f tn Hey there, I am a 20 year old female and Have just been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism. This is very scary for me. I have been prescribed Synthroid wich I have been taking regularly now for 4-5 days. Once I take my pill I find it very hard to sit still. I am very figity and warm. I dont know if this is because my dose is to high or if my body is still adjusting to the new medication. Can someone tell me if this is normal and will the effects fade ?
Avatar f tn With my experience, it took a year to figure out where my dosage should be. I was hyper. I took 200mcg of Synthroid for about 13 years, now they have changed my dosage to 125mcg of Levothroid. I think that everyone is different when it comes to dosage and how long it will take for your body to show some kind of difference. I had to be tested every 6 weeks with so may dosage adjustments. Just make sure you keep your appointments when it comes to checking the hormone levels.
Avatar n tn I have IC and I am in a really bad flare- I think it may be caused by recently starting a new med- synthroid. Has anyone heard of this and if so- do you know of any manufacturer of thyroid replacement meds that are more IC friendly than others?
404389 tn?1217030704 Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Unithroid. Be careful though. They are the same main ingredient but use different "binders". Personally I cannot take the generic and only do well on the Synthroid - others are quite opposite. You will find many of us out here who swear by a particular brand (or the generic) and refuse to switch because of bad experiences. If you are going to switch, talk to your endo first so your labs can be monitored.
Avatar f tn I got my results to TSH tests and the doctor put me on Levothroid. My number was 2.6. Is this high or low? I was reading about the side effects and they are enough to scare me away from taking this medicine. I'd appreciate any help from anyone familiar with this drug. I definitely don't need to lose any hair and don't have the privilaedgo ot time to become nasty tempered or hyper. I have a husband to take care of and he drives me nuts at times through no fault of his own.
Avatar m tn Now I have no insurance, meaning, I cannot pick up my Effexor XR, Levothroid, Zocor (for cholesteral)and also my trazadone for sleep. The only thing I was able to pick up was my xanax 1mg 2X daily. It was only $19.00. As for the rest, what kind of danger am I going to be in not taking these meds. I have been taken all the above mentioned meds for 3 years or longer. What am I to do??? Thank You. Kevin.
899045 tn?1241824973 I have been working really hard with my weight-loss, I exercise more than most people I know in my weight loss group, 65oz of water per day, 20-25 carbs, Veggies, Lean meats, no sugars, you name it, I've been doing it. I am also HypoThyroid and on 50mcg of Levothroid. My weight loss had been a upward battle, very hard battle. Anyhow, I spoke to a Dr. on the phone (My Dr. is out on leave), she looked at my chart and said that as we get older, we exercise less. I am only 35.
Avatar m tn thanks for responses. I too have taken t4 for 16 years. But, not always the same brand. It has changed as my doctors and insurance have changed over the years. Currently, I have an HMO in california. Let's just say their commercials say "thrive" but their doctors say, F off. about 3 years ago things started to change for me and no one can figure out why. The PCP sends me to ENT who says there is nothing wrong who sends me to Endo who says my labs are fine.
Avatar m tn I am 19 years old and I take synthroid everyday from iodine deficiency. I was wondering. Was anyone else born with no gland? It is almost unheard of. This discussion is related to i was born without a THYROID GLAND, WAS ANY ONE ELSE BORN without one?.
4274823 tn?1388529098 m gathering info on the various conventional medications available for treating hypothyroidism. My doctor recommends Synthroid. I see people posting info about Tirosint being costly, but not having fillers and dye. Is it the same case with Levoxyl? I would have to pay for any prescription drugs myself so price is a consideration.
Avatar f tn s old and has had hypothryoidism and hypoglycemia for several years. He takes one 200MCG tablet of levothroid every day. REcently, he started having severe chest pains. Last Sunday, they were so bad we took him to the ER where they performed all sorts of heart tests and determined it wasn't his heart. They also performed an ultrasound and upper GI and the technician performing them told my husband he saw no signs of reflux or abnormalities there, yet his doctor called him two days later..
Avatar n tn I agree with Chigirl. There are several alternatives, including the armour natural product. The armour product got a bad rap because of concern about prion contamination. I think the danger was over-stated. Just an unsubstantiated opinion. Synthroid has an uneven manufacturing history and the manufacturing process and composition have been changed several times.
393685 tn?1425812522 I can't respond to this poll (not on thyroid medication even though I probably should be on Synthroid), but I couldn't resist commenting on how even the numbers are, at least right now...33% Synthroid, 33% Levothyroxine, 16% Armour, 16% other. Pretty neat!
Avatar f tn Synthroid, Unithroid, Levothroid, or generic levothyroxine. I would appreciate any advice.
