Levothroid and hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Levothroid and hair loss

synthroid

Avatar n tn I thought the hair loss was a symptom of the low thyroid and not a side effect of the treatment. I am being treated for low thyroid and although my TSH is now close to normal my symptoms have not gone away (hair loss, constipation, cold all the time and the worst one WEIGHT GAIN - ugh!).
526566 tn?1212531197 I have so many symptoms... Cold , dry skin, Major memory loss, weight gain, tired and lethargic. The dr. had me on it before then another dr. said Ill need it later but not now. SO i stopped taking it.. Now all these symptoms have happened. I am very active.. Work out faithfully. 3 miles on the treadmiill 6x a week.. I still gain weight. My hair is thin, brittle and falls out. What exactly does 6500tpo ab mean anyways.. He said I would be hypo later.. just dont know how soon!
Avatar n tn Hello. I had a total thyoidectomy in 1995 and have been on a suppressive dose of Levothroid ever since. I have already developed osteoporosis, which I have been told is most likely connected to the Levothroid dosage. Recently, I have been reading about an additional connection between high thryroid hormone levels and Alzheimer's Disease. I am extremely concerned about this issue. If you can give further information, I would be very grateful. Thank you.
899045 tn?1241824973 I have been working really hard with my weight-loss, I exercise more than most people I know in my weight loss group, 65oz of water per day, 20-25 carbs, Veggies, Lean meats, no sugars, you name it, I've been doing it. I am also HypoThyroid and on 50mcg of Levothroid. My weight loss had been a upward battle, very hard battle. Anyhow, I spoke to a Dr. on the phone (My Dr. is out on leave), she looked at my chart and said that as we get older, we exercise less. I am only 35.
Avatar f tn is anyone having problems with migraine... and has anyone had any luck of getting rid of it with regulation of their thyroid medication..
Avatar m tn So, the GP and I decided to lower my levothroid to 112 mcg. My TSH was about .67 at the time. The lowered levothroid seemed to help with the anxiety and dry skin and teeth grinding. I did not feel better, just different; it is hard to explain. Then, after 7 months, my TSH came back at 4.63. Yikes! Doc and I upped dose back to 125mcg. Within two weeks, the anxiety came back as well as the floating weird feelings and the headaches were nonstop.
Avatar f tn I got my results to TSH tests and the doctor put me on Levothroid. My number was 2.6. Is this high or low? I was reading about the side effects and they are enough to scare me away from taking this medicine. I'd appreciate any help from anyone familiar with this drug. I definitely don't need to lose any hair and don't have the privilaedgo ot time to become nasty tempered or hyper. I have a husband to take care of and he drives me nuts at times through no fault of his own.
Avatar n tn If you suffer from Hypothyroidism, it would be silly to stop your T4 med unless you have gone Hyper (from too high a dose) and in which case, you only stop for a few days to bring the levels down faster, Explain some more of your history and levels if you can.
Avatar f tn Here is series of events. I've been on .1 levathroid for 5 days a week, 1/2 dose two days a week. By accident the dose was upped to .1 daily for about a month. The hospitol said I was hypo and took me completely off for 3 days. The doctor then put me BACK on the 7 day regiment. It has been 5 weeks and I've gained over ten pounds. NO changes have been made to my diet. My thyroid does not work.
Avatar f tn I take Evening Primrose Oil, which does not stop hair loss but nourishes the hair and helps soften it.... as hypothyroidism causes your hair to become dry brittle and break. I also take 5,000 of biotin each day. I was taking the capsules and there was no improvement after 6 months. My dermatologist told me to take Matrix 5,000 from Amazon. She said that the tablets are better absorbed by most people, so I am trying that now.
299033 tn?1393301417 Hi, I am at a loss to know how I can fit in T3 three times a day and two calcium supplements three times a day if they have to be taken 4 hours apart how do I fit that in please? Does anyone manage this situation?
Avatar f tn Only in the past 20 days, hair fall has gone up. Does hair straightening dry out the hair causing lack of moisture and thus hair fall?? I truly hope that this is temporary as you mentioned!!
Avatar f tn I just finished Sovaldi and olysio and no hair loss at all, in fact hair looked great I do have hypothyroid which is familial, mother , daughters have it, Check your thyroid levels That can effect hair loss, dryness etc( even my eye brows and under arms thinned from hypothyroidism ) You may need to be on thyroid medication such as synthyroid if it is off
Avatar f tn My hair has ALWAYS been so thick and moisturized and healthy and now its dry and frizzy and falling out! Its awful im so embarrassed it literally never stops falling out.
Avatar n tn If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment thyroid disease. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss. Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones.
