Levetiracetam medication

Common Questions and Answers about Levetiracetam medication

keppra

Avatar f tn There have been reports of effective seizure control from patients following up monthly. They are using Levetiracetam (Keppra) as an adjuvant to another first line anti-epileptic medication. Most of them are suffering from partial seizures. And the first line drug is mostly Tegretol. Only a few patients have complained about mood swings so far. All had predominantly depressed mood, but not to the extent of being called depressive disorder. This must be about 10% of the patients.
Avatar f tn I found similar symptoms with this drug too Heidi. I was put on it after having one (believed to be generalized focal seizure??) after a brain aneurysm. To be honest, I chose to take my chances off this medication as I was finding it was making me feel really depressed. Discuss it with yr GP and see if theres any alternative? Or maybe u need the dosage adjusting?
Avatar m tn in both cases) the doctor suggested to start medication and suggested depakine (valproid acid) mentioning it could potentially help with the attention deficit problem (ADD / ADHD). To be sure, I checked with another doctor and to my surprise she said that depakine could deteriorate the attention deficit issue, based on recent research and publications, therefore she suggested keppra (levetiracetam). Can anyone help so as to take a decision on the medication? Thanks a lot in advance!
Avatar f tn I see these color blobs that move in my vision that shouldn’t be there, they don’t show any connection to stimuli so I don’t have synesthesia. I’m on levetiracetam aka keppra and clobazam aka onfi. When I was on oxcarbazepine (trileptal) and levetiracetam (keppra) I started having these weird headaches where I would lose my vision, hearing, smell, and coordination, but I could still speak and feel. The doctors are pretty much stumped. Has anyone ever had a situation like this?
Avatar m tn I am an Indian Citizen living in the US. I have been taking LEVETIRACETAM (to control partial-onset seizures) since 2011. Currently, I am in perfect health conditions. As a precautionary medicine, I get the medicine from India either myself or through a friend/family member traveling between India and the US. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, I am running short of medicine. I have my prescription and medical certificates to support my condition.
Avatar m tn I am taking tablets for my minor neural problem for the past 4 years, The tablets i am consuming are Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) -300mg and Levetiracetam (keppra) -250mg. Now I am looking for a tablet which should have both of this content in the same. I feel guilty that I am taking more tablets and my health condition is improved now. so I planned to reduce my tablet dosage. so I look over this- i.e.
Avatar f tn I don't hear very many good reports about keppra with regard to it's side effects. I do hear many complaints about mood swings, aggression, cognition and memory problems, etc.. However, I have read a few comments saying it can actually HELP with mood swings and bipolar disorder (which she doesn't have). Please comment on this. My daughter has just begun this medication for seizure disorder. She has had seizures several years apart from each other.
Avatar f tn My dog 13yo Boxer began experiencing cluster seizures. Initially given phenobarbital. Major bad reaction & seizures stopped. They came back about month later. First given Gabapentin. Seizures increased. Now he's on levetiracetam & seizures has subsided. Side effect has been increased sedation and loss of appetite. I need to given his next set of meds but concerned to give him another 750mg on an empty stomach. He barely ate for his 2nd round od meds this afternoon. Need Help!
Avatar f tn can levetiracetam 750mg (2 2 times a day) be taken with amlodipine 10mg (1 time a day) and albuterol 90mcg (2 pumps 4 times a day). Can these be mixed? I this too much medicine?
Avatar m tn what medication (and dose) are you taking?
Avatar m tn When did the sexual problems start. was it before or after starting your medication? These meds may be causing the problem. I did look them up and there was not anything in the side effects category that mentioned this problem. But, these meds can be very sedating and they do work on the central nervous system. I take it your using them to control seizures? The Phenobarbital has a very long half life, meaning it stays in the system for a long time. Your taking a pretty high dose.
1328714 tn?1294578263 After a seizure you always suffer memory loss, and being unable to finish sentence or even jumble it up. I think to be honest check your tegretol leaflet and see if any of the symptoms are listed on it.If memory loss is on it I would recommend trying Keppra (Levetiracetam), it is quite new and has virtually no major side effects. I have been on it since just before christmas, and I feel better and my memory is improved.
Avatar f tn The only times the seizures would happen was when I woke up suddenly, in the morning. The medication I was given is levitiractam (keppra) 500mg twice a day, which i have been taking for about two years, My questions are: how does keppra help against seizures? What does it mean to suddenly be diagnosed with seizures?(even though the MRI and EGG and other tests show normal) Sometimes when i am walking to school i feel dizzy even though i take my medication. Why is that?
571167 tn?1223214465 I do not believe the medications the medical community has place him on are worth the side-effects. They placed him on Levetiracetam, Benztropine, and Abilify, and the side-effects are NOT worth the potential benefit of what--self-control? I have worked with youth in placement for 18 years, and these medications do not make any significant difference in their judgments because they do not change their value system.
9993344 tn?1407128563 My mom is currently taking Diazepam, Levetiracetam and Alprazolam.
Avatar m tn At this point of time he is not able to speak more than two words in a row. His Hb is 8.9. He is on valporate, topiramate and levetiracetam. His MRI scan revealed "Assymetric Right Temporal Horn prominence without any difinite evidence of mesial scerosis" His walking pattern is also erratic. Most often he adopts "Toe Walking". When he walks slowly, which is rare, he walks alright. Always he tries to rush up and runs in an imbalancing manner.
Avatar f tn The phenobarbital is a very widely used anti-seizure medication. It is highly metabolized by the liver and over time, cause liver enzymes to rise. Keppra (levetiracetam) is mostly excreted by the kidneys are is one of the safest drugs speaking in terms of therapeutic vs. toxic blood concentrations. Other drugs include zonisamide, potassium bromide, etc. A large percentage of dogs respond to one anti-seizure medication. For some, one is not enough and they need 2, 3, or 4 others!
Avatar m tn Who knows? All three of these drugs target at least in part the way the brain processes serotonin. The Zoloft is an ssri, and solely targets serotonin. The other two target other neurotransmitters along with serotonin. The possible danger is getting serotonin syndrome, which is an overdose basically of serotonin.
Avatar m tn Pharmacotherapy usually involves drug modulating GABAergic neurotransmission like Levetiracetam, Piracetam, Clonazepam or Valproic acid against prescription. I suggest you to consult neuro physician for his further evaluation and management. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn carbamazepine, clobazam, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine and topiramate. These medications rarely stop the seizures completely but reduce the frequency and severity of them. I hope this helps, my prayers are with you and your son.
Avatar m tn Pharmacological treatment when required would indicate anticonvulsants, like piracetam, levetiracetam, sodium valproate etc. 5-hydroxytryptophan can cause some improvement. Consult your neurologist. Hope this helps. Take care.

Avatar f tn If you experienced the chills these may be due to the medication if they began soon after you started taking your medication. Otherwise it is likely that you may have picked up a virus. Simvastatin is well documented for having adverse side effects and can cause damage to nerves. It can also worsen symptoms of dementia and Altzheimers. My next door neighbour had to stop taking it because it made him so ill. There was a TV programme in the UK on people who have had bad reactions to it.

Avatar f tn I feel at such a loss in trying to help my Mother. I've gone back to Neurologist and am awaiting his advise, but he doesn't appear to be emphathetic to this issue. Her GP defers to the neurologist. My 81 yr old Mother in middle to late stage Alzheimer's. She is not on any anti-anxiety med except for Paxil which was prescribed about a month ago. She gets aggitated during the day at times and especially sundowners time.
Avatar f tn no toxicity symptoms have been reported.
