Levemir for type 2

Common Questions and Answers about Levemir for type 2

levemir

Avatar n tn I have PCOS and have type 2 diabetes so my doctor put me on insulin. I feel like my readings are ranging from 148-220 before meals and I'm concerned that something will go wrong with the baby's development because they aren't getting lower. Anyone have this issue and what did you do? I'm on novolog and levemir (levemir is just at bedtime).
Avatar f tn I see the confusion If I understand you, you think Levemir is used for carbohydrates. Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
Avatar n tn I am curious as why you do not mention that Glargine(lantus) does NOT have a license for twice daily usage ,levemir has a licensce for OD and BD and has weight benefits for type 2 patients???? or are you heavily sponsored/involved with the manufactureres of glargine? I am interested.
Avatar n tn Levemir is NOT meant to counter BG rise due to food. eating food will raise BG for 2, 3 or 4 hours levemir lasts 24 hours a rapid insulin lasts about 4 hours so it matches the BG result from food.
Avatar n tn I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
Avatar n tn I am type 2 diabeteic patient. Due to skipping meal, I developed adrenaline stress and by diamicron metformin But blood sugar was never high. Doctor gave me Lantus and Humalog. It was working well for a year. Then blood was becoming high, Doctor gave me LEVEMIR. If I take 10 units of humalog, after two hours sugar drops 4 points, I think this is the right dose for humalog for what I eat. I eat 60 gram Carb every meal.
Avatar n tn I have type 2 diabetes (2 yrs). My A1C is 7.6 I am presently using Levemir Flex Pen (22) before bed. I take synthroid for hypothyrodism (10 yrs) and recently started taking crestor for high cholesterol (which is now within normal range) I 58, female and over-weight. Question: I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it.
Avatar f tn the levemir is a long acting insulin so it will be in her system for 24 hours. what is here normal does of Levemir? when and how often dose she take levemir? She will have to check her BG more often and watch out for Hypos (low BG). make sure she always has her test kit and a fast acting carb (IE reg sugar soda, orange juice, glucose tabs...) to raise BG with her.
Avatar n tn When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same. For me, Levemir seemed to work better in that it provided more consistency to my blood sugar levels. I like Levemir. I have switched to 2 shots per day (morning and night) instead of just taking the 1 shot at night, because the 1 shot at night may not cover the 24 hours.
1353681 tn?1387083733 Biggest difference is that Levimir release cycles last around half as long as Lantus, which makes for 2 basal shots a day, and it's a little easier to accidentally overlap doses. For example, I try to get my shots at 7am and 10pm, but that creates a 3-hour overlap and gap on either end. Getting the dosage right makes it easy to work around, but it's only as good as the consistency in your schedule.
Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar m tn I am diabetic 2. Taking Levemir 23 units at night. 13 unit humalog in every meal. Sugar is not very well controlled yet. But does not go above 10 mmol/l . I feel shortness of breath, if I walk or quickly come in the bed. Before 6 months EKG was done and no problem.
1340011 tn?1276617767 Your blood sugar is definitely not under control. You say your blood sugar is 200 in the morning. That is very high for fasting. You don't say what your numbers are two hours after meals. If those are high and all you are on is a basal (long-acting) insulin then it sounds as if you also need to be on a bolus or fast-acting insulin before each meal dose determined by an Insulin:Carb ratio.
Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosised with Type 1 Diabetes Aug 2008. We have learned how to inject insulin and check her blood sugar numbers. We keep her on a pretty strick diet to ensure that we keep her Blood Sugar Numbers between 80-180. The past two days she has been very low. We have tried to make sure that the insulin that we give her is only enough to cover the food that she has eaten. However, just today, she woke up with her blood sugar #s at 64. She ate about 32 carbs for breakfast.
Avatar f tn I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.
Avatar n tn Alternatively, talk to you dr about using levemir. This is dosed morning and night and the dose can be different for morning and evening to target optimal blood sugars. There is also a new insulin called Tresiba. Many find that this gives very stable blood sugars with less risk of lows. You may also discuss this with your Dr.
Avatar n tn If you believe your are reacting badly to Lantus (or any other medications) you should ask your physician for an alternative, at least to verify it is the medication and not some other factor that is causing the problem. Lantus is popular for it's 24 hour action, but so is Levemir (Novo Nordisk). NPH insulin can also be used for long acting insulin, though two injections may be needed to get the 24 hour coverage.
Avatar f tn t giving him any the lantus people wants me on toujeo cause their patent was coming up so they stopped sampling it!!!! He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!
Avatar n tn I am 56 years old and have Type I diabates for 22 years. I continue to gain weight, although I eat less than I ever have before. I work at a computer all day, with little to no daily exercise. I know that growing older my metabolism has slowed, but I continue to gain weight from anywhere to 3 to 5 pounds a week! Does insulin cause weight gain? What else can I do other than signing up for an expensive gym workout session?
Avatar f tn I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. I've had diabetes for many years, but never knew for sure which one! My dr would switch my diagnosis all the time. But went to endo and they did a blood test, and said I'm type 1. I'm angry my dr. never did anything about this.
Avatar n tn Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with type one 3 weeks ago. I have noticed that no matter what I do the lantus stings after I inject it before I go to bed. Is this common? Is there any tricks anyone has learned that has helped them?
Avatar n tn My 13yo son Sean was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes nine months ago. He is also significantly ADHD, requiring daily medication in order to be able to function socially and academically. We have found that the ADHD meds and the insulin are difficult to schedule because the ADHD meds suppress the appetite, and now that he has diabetes, he cannot skip meals.
Avatar n tn s and was theerfore recently put on to Lantis (1 dose in the am) with Novorapid (meals), but it does not seem to be working for me. I was not getting into single figures on the dose pescribed and upping it (now by 2 units) has not helped. Novorapid sort of keeps it under control at meals but my base rate is simply not adequate.
776302 tn?1241091853 To answer your question. It seems to work fantastically for diabetes management. My daughter, 27, has type 2. Her blood sugar was always 400-500. No insurance so no insulin or meds on a consistent basis. She started on the HL program, shakes & diet and within 1-2 weeks, her sugars are around 200 consistently. Not perfect, but it's a huge change for the better. I am also type 2 diabetic. My #s have run around 250-350 even with 125 units of Levemir a day.
20693191 tn?1503884408 Hi.I have a question. I've been a diabetic Type 1 for close to 45 years. Recently my endocrinologist suggest I use Lantus. She thought it would be better for me. I also use Humalog. She started me with 48 units of Lantus, at night. I quickly noticed that it was too high of a dosage. I was waking up in the middle of the night hypoglycemic. The lowest was 2.9 and even then, in the morning, sometimes at 3.5-4.0. She decided to bring it down to 40. Not low enough.
Avatar n tn ve had 2 negative pockit tests(which is now called biokit) all ive done is have oral sex.
