It was just unreliable in that it would sometimes leak with injection so I never knew if I was getting the proper dosage. I switched to Levemir (flex pen) a couple of years ago, and it has been fine. Both Lantus and Levemir are the peakless insulins. They provide your "background coverage" all day long (24 hours). When you eat, you need the fast acting insulin like Novolog to act quickly to cover the meal. For some, Lantus and Levemir act the same.
I see the confusion
If I understand you, you think Levemir is used for carbohydrates. Levemir is a basle insulin, meaning it works for 24 hours. Like a background insulin. the amount of Levemir taken has nothing to do with the amount of carbohydrates (carbs) you eat. That type of insulin is called a bolis insulin, like Apedra, Novalog... that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
It was working well for a year. Then blood was becoming high, Doctor gave me LEVEMIR. If I take 10 units of humalog, after two hours sugar drops 4 points, I think this is the right dose for humalog for what I eat. I eat 60 gram Carb every meal. But 3 hours, sugar tries to go low, but insead, it bounces back and proceede to values and I start to feel hypo, though I never see sugar 9. It is not hypo value, why sugar bounces up, why feel shaky, fear etc. I use LEVIMIR as base insulin.
I have recently changed to new insulin. I am now taking Levemir in the morning and at night taking Apidra. Since I have changed to this insulin my blood sugar is going upby alot. I was at 176 this morning and within a few hours it was at 296. This has never happened before and I have not changed anything in my eating. Why is it going up so much and how can I make this stop?
My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 5 years old. She has been giving NPH with Humalog. It hasn't been working much though because she's high most of the time even when we watch what she eats and exercises. It just doesn't make much sense why the NPH isn't working anymore. She's on a sliding scale for Humalog and she gives a shot of 40 units of NPH in the morning.
I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. No, I am not aware of any people who have contacted us with any kind of resistance to Lantus. I do know that Lantus must be replaced at the end of a month on one bottle. The expiration date is really important, for near the end of the month, some of us find that it no longer crystallizes properly. Some people notice that when the Lantus bottle is about one month old, it doesn't work well. But if you just started the bottle, this is probably not the problem.
I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I was out of Levemir for several days and I tried to control with Novolog. Wednesday and Thursday I was running over 600. Yesterday I got my Levemir and started taking it right away. It took most of the day to get down to 350. I was feeling real sick all day. Sleepy, dizzy, nauseous. muscle weakness. I slept from 6:00 pm until 10:00 am. My numbers were up to 500 again. I got them back to 300 by 3:00 pm, but have continued to feel just as sick.

I take synthroid for hypothyrodism (10 yrs) and recently started taking crestor for high cholesterol (which is now within normal range) I 58, female and over-weight. Question: I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it.
t giving him any the lantus people wants me on toujeo cause their patent was coming up so they stopped sampling it!!!! He offered me a levemir sample he said it had less weight gain than lantus and was the same., plus the levemir company still samples, I have been on this stuff for three weeks, I don't feel sluggish after taking it, I feel great, and the pen is nice!

NPH and regular Humilin are older therapies. Something like Lantus or Levemir as the long acting and something like Novolog or another fast acting insulin are much more common these days. They give more consistent coverage with fewer spikes. Does he have hypoglycemia unawareness? If he's getting down to 19, it sounds like he may. That is a condition where he can't tell he's getting low. It is possible to correct the condition, you just have to work out a plan with his endo.
It was working so well for me previously. I went to a new endo about a year ago, and he suggested I try Levemir instead of the Lantus. Once I started the Levemir, I noticed a marked improvement with more consistent bg levels. I am a Type 1 diagnosed at 33, and I am 10 years into the disease. I take sliding Humalog and 12 U Levemir at bed. I hope this helps.
s down another 6lbs. I know there is a difference between the scale at the hospital and my scale, but it isn't likely 6 lbs. The sleeping issue we are working on and are quite hopeful. The weight loss is quite frightening. My son is not overweight at all (average). We have tried Adderall, Concerta, Straterra, and now Dexadrine. We have finally found a medication that allows my boy to have success in school, but the negative side effects are outweighing the postive response to the meds.
I lost my sliding scale card that my Diabetes (Metabolic, Endocrine, and Diabetes) doctor gave me to use because I haven't had to use my Novalog since before Christmas. I currently have a virus and my sugars are out of control. What is the recommended dosage because I don't want to give myself too much or too little.
I even tried Levemir, but after two days the pains came back. I stopped all shots and the pain and other symptoms went away. Is there an insulin that doest not cause stomach pain, chills, and vomiting?
ve changed medications and dosages quite a few times in the last 10 months due to response issues (absorption issues) of the meds. The most recent meds/dosage was 200 Mcgs of Tirosint and 5 of cytomel. It appears on that dosage, after 4 months, I'm now hyper (TSH .04- I don't have the other levels in front of me, but she said they also support a hyper diagnosis caused by the meds). I don't hate a hyper diagnosis.
Anyone else weigh themselves at home and get a completely different number when you step on the scale at the doctors office.. Ahh it bothers me. Past pregnancys I have gained 40lbs and I'm trying to control how much I gain this time around. pre pregnancy I was 150 (according to MY scale). I weigh myself on a daily basis and have been at 152 for awhile (ill be 15 weeks tomorrow). Well I went to the doctors and stepped on their digital scale and got 158.
