Back in January of 2012, in a report created based on the primary objective of a heart scan, the doctor also mentioned his discovery of "minimal centrilobular emphysema." My primary care doctor didn't send me to a pulmonary specialist because there is nothing (I was told) that can be done about it. However, in the past two years I have now had some pretty bad brushes with bronchitis and now am fighting a nearly month-old issue with coughing and head congestion.

However penicillin allergy itself is very dangerous. Even if it causes mild reaction at the first dose, subsequent doses’ cumulative anaphylaxis is itself life threatening. Today there are many alternatives to penicillin.

Yeas ago, my son (3 years at the time, 33 years ago) was sick with a bad cold. The doctor put him on a penicillin type antiobiotic. The next day he developed a rash, so the doctor thinking that it was an allergic reaction, changed his drug to erythromycin.
The next morning, my son had lots of redness and swollen eyes. I rushed him to another doctor who immediately gave him a shot of a penicillin derivative and put him back on the penicillin type drug.

So I was told a long time ago I have a bad allergy to penicillin, I just found out penicillium produces penicillin and was wondering because brie cheese has a rind made of penicillium if it's safe for me to eat this cheese? As you have a history of penicillin allergy. If your body is hypersensitive to sulfa, reaction will be similar to that you develop for penicillin.
Each individual are known to respond to a drug differently in drug allergy. If the drug is too much sensitized then it can cause more severe reaction.
I would recommend that you take the Levaquin with dinner tonight (it is supposed to be taken with food) and then enjoy the evening with your husband so you can both monitor your symptoms. If you have the difficulty breathing again, you should go to an ER.
Also, if you are an asthmatic, you probably just need to use your inhaler on a regular basis while you get over this infection. That will help open your airways so that you can breathe better.

I could see that you have been a bit over dosed with Levaquin 500 mg ,taking 4-6 tabs per day and for three days.For an infection like strep throat its better to start with drugs like Cephalosporins or pencillins and azithromycin or Co trimox.As drug like Levaquin has more fatal side effects I think its better you switch off to other broad spectrum antibiotics like said above.Stop using Levaquin now.Its not that long that you have severe adverse effects,so better change the prescription.

You probably should be talking to your sons doctor or pharmacist and ask if it is ok that he takes the prevacid when he has an allergy to penicillin. A lot can also depend on the type of reaction he gets from the penicillin as well. So my advice would be just to call up your pharmacist or doctor and ask. It never hurts to be safe rather then sorry. Hope that helps!

Rash is a symptoms of drug allergy, but it is also a common symptom of a viral infection - chicken pox, measles, hand, foot and mouth disease, roseola... There are many, many more. Most of them are "childhood"diseases, but they are not limited to then. I caught roseola from my daughter when she was about 1.
I would suggest that you call your doctor and ask if he wants you to keep taking the medication or not. He can always change it.
t believe how few doctors warn their patients who are allergic to penicillin to avoid foods that may contain penicillin - and that would be most poultry products, other commercial meat products and possibly dairy products. Buy food that are antibiotic free - believe me it works to avoid allergens.
Still, if I were in your situation, I would insist on the penicillin shots. Or, if I stuck with oral therapy, I would take much higher doses and would continue treatment fo 4 weeks.
Augmentin is a combination drug, amoxicillin plus clavulanic acid. Only the amox is active ageist syphilis. I would take 1 gram amoxicillin 3-4 times a day for 4 weeks. It will cause a lot of diarrhea, which is one reason penicillin shots are preferred.
However the past 2 years have been worse. She developed a strong allergy to all dairy and was diagnosed with MBL Deficiency. I can't come to term with the fact that there is nothing we can do! what a struggle to fight with doctors, emergencies and all. She is also allergic to penicillin so doctors take so long to figure out what to give her!
I dont think I can cope.
