Levaquin vs penicillin

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin vs penicillin

levaquin

Avatar n tn No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago). Any ideas about what is going on? thanks so much.
Avatar f tn t want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. Do you have any further insight on this for me? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn t know why he ordered Levaquin vs another ATB. Tinnitus and the being off balance are two different symptoms. One is not causing the other. Have you read the side effects from Levaquin? There are quite alot, and I believe this drug has been "black boxed" in the USA. However, I am not so sure this caused your problems or your problems are unrelated to the Levaquin.
Avatar f tn However, I did have intensified gut and neuro symptoms as well as anxiety, all of which are attributed to Bartonella. I am still on Levaquin for it even though my anxiety is gone.
640719 tn?1277140030 I talked to the pharmacist and they said with my resistance to macrodatin (not sure of spelling) cipro and levaquin and allergy to penicillin, ceftin, and now batrium, not sure what they can do for me :o I can take Keflex but I'm reading that is most likely not to effective in treating UTI's. I'm sure fear is not helping my UTI sensations. How big of trouble may I be in concerning this situation? What can they do? Any input would be grateful.
Avatar m tn I have an ear infection needing antibiotics (Levaquin. 500mg). The pharmacist said that these two meds are contraindicated. My cardiologist said to go off of Flecainide for 2 weeks while taking the Levaquin. The bad news is that I am scared to go off on a med that I have been taking for a long time. The good news is that I will find out if the meds are causing my daily symptoms of nausea, extreme fatigue, sleepiness and I don't need anti arrhythmic agents for A-Fib.

605877 tn?1301700646 You can lose your hearing as a result. Since you are allergic to penicillin related medications, your doctor should be putting you on different types of antibiotics. Ther are MANY to chose from, Levaquin and Z-packs (azithromiacin) are commonly used. I hope that helps you some. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Take care and God bless.
Avatar n tn May any of this be side effects of lavoquin or his chest congestion, which now im questioning if it is a congestion anymore. How can you decipher chest pain from chest congestion vs.
Avatar n tn QUESTIONS Since 1st post ONE - Cold i had turned to Brochitus, Dr prescribed 750mg Levaquin 10 days. Can Levaquin interfere with RNA test? TWO - Only symptoms I have are Bronchitus, nasuea that lasts 10 minutes comes & goes around dinner time, shooting nerve pain in abdomen, racing feeling & red face for a few days. No fever, swollen nodes as far as I can tell. Do not remember Levaquin causing me nausea when I have taken it before?
2109342 tn?1380908975 Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and to Lyme. I've been doing so well on Levaquin for 30 days. Infact, I've been feeling great! Last week, I began having pain in joints and neck. I know Levaquin can cause this, but so can Lyme. I'm not sure if I should stop taking the Levaquin now, wait and call my doctor on Monday, or try something else first? My doctor is not a Lyme doctor.
Avatar n tn I have seen several doctors and they have prescribed all kinds of antibiotics including penicillin shots, doxy, Augmentin, diflucan, flagyl, bactrim, levaquin and yet i am still suffering from this problem. The first time I had this, i had penicillin shots and cipro and used some some cream, for some reason it went away after aa few weeks surprisingly I felt relieve. A few days after I felt the releieve, I had sex with my wife and everything was fine.
Avatar f tn I am allergic to penicillin and related antibiotics, but my physician has me keep albuterol and a mild antibiotic on hand in case protracted respiratory symptoms develop, usually after a cold. OK. This happened recently. I had a cold and then the usual subsequent respiratory problems. I held off, then went to the bronchodilator. When my symptoms persisted and I felt worse, I finally decided to take the antibiotic (Azithromycin). This has worked before; this time it didn't.
Avatar f tn I do remember one paper from several years ago (could be out of date already) that said the only antibiotic class known to penetrate biofilms is fluoroquinolones (Levaquin, Cipro, et.al.), which is probably why Levaquin is used so much for UTIs. (UTIs are well known to make biofilms, resulting in stubborn and relapsing infections.) Levaquin is often good for treating Bartonella. I felt noticeably better on it, but then developed tendon pain and had to stop.
Avatar n tn s not usually prescribed for this treatment but in your case it might make sense. There are also more common fluoroquinolones like Levofloxacin (Levaquin brand name), which might work but are not quite as active against chlamydia. But as Brianbear said, we'd have to know what you're allergic to in order to really say what you might be able to take. Good luck with everything.
Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
Avatar f tn I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone...has anyone ever been on Levaquin (it's in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage. Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects??? I think my mom was on it (IV) but didn't have any side effects. All I can say is if they want to put you on it, ask for something else unless there is no choice! Thanks!

Avatar m tn I read the CDC guideline to treat NS is 4 x daily IV penicillin for 10-14 days OR intramuscular penicillin 2.4 (penicillin shots) AND 4x Probenecid 500mg everyday for 10-14 days. Consistently, I have found a thread of a person here undergoing the above mentioned outpatient treatment for his NS (surprisingly his titer was also 1:64 to begin with!) but that person was the only one I could find online. Many thanks again!
Avatar m tn I got infected about 3 weeks ago with Gonorrhea of the throat i had a mild sore throat and just thought it was tonsillitis since i suffer from it a lot i just went to a STD clinic and told me i have Gonorrhea in the throat and since i am extremely allergic to penicillin they gave me 2 gm of Azithromycin to take in a single dose which i did today. Now, since yesterday i have been experiencing some joint discomfort and sever non-stop tingling all over my body. My question is could this be DGI?
Avatar m tn t necessary to run blood work - clearly bacterial infection developed - put me on Levaquin. Still sick. Put me on Keflex/Levaquin, combined-no labs-said he didn't want to run a big bill of lab testing (no insurance). 2nd day of Keflex/Levaquin, fever dropped, but severe shakes, incredibly sick. Went to ER b/c felt awful. Bloodwork normal. ER Dr. said shouldn't have been on antibiotics -stop. Stopped after 1 wk Levaquin & 2 days Keflex. My dr.
