levaquin uti treatment

I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/246898'>Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea</a>.

Had an UTI and hence was put on levaquin. After the 8th day of taking levaquin, i had the problem of not able to swallow food.. Stopped levaquin and UTI went away. Since then, i had a feeling that something is stuck in throat and particularly at nites, i was not able to sleep properly. had mylanta and prilosec and the situation got improved.. doctor recommended aciphex and currently i am on that..

I have chronic bladder infections and on long term Macrobid and still get frequent UTIs. I have had 3+ bacteria for the last 2 months despite Cipro and Levaquin. This morning the UTI is back with burning, frequency. They did not do a C&S before Cipro I think because it is always e-coli. What could be wrong with these 2 meds not working?....I am so tired of this pain and burning. I also have had lower back pain and groin pain for the last 2 mos.

I've been taking 500mg. of Levaquin for 4 days for a uti. Nasty side effects. I wanted to know if I can cut the pills in half. Would taking 250mg. be as effective? All the symptoms of my uti are gone. I was supposed to take the pills for 7 days and I stopped after 4 because of side effects.

All of the side affects are due to the Levaquin. I would have to have a gun pointed to my head before I took levaquin, and even then I might still refuse. Levaquin is a very "punishing" medication. Levaquin has it's mplace in the physicians armamentarium. For example, if I had bubonic plaque, I might consider levaquin. But they have an EXCELLENT drug marketing program. The symptoms will eventually disappear. Don't change your synthroid dose.

Unfortunately I had to start a course of Levaquin for a sinus infection and UTI. I am scheduled to complete the course of Levaquin on Tuesday, February 5. Is it safe to try to get pregnant on Friday, February 8. I have not started any prenatal vitamins, is it foolish to start prenatal vitamins along with the Levaquin or should I have been taking these a few months beforehand?

Hi everyone...has anyone ever been on Levaquin (it's in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I am now feeling pain here and there, but no idea if it's related. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage! Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects??? If so, did they ever go away?

35 yr old male. with a history of UTI's, approx 2/yr. Symptoms were slight sensitivity in lower abdomen but no burning during urination - I know the feeling so went to the doc very early. Urine test at doc's was negative. Prescribed Levaquin 250mg 1/day for 14 days. On my last incidence, approx. 6 months ago, went to doc with same symptoms, based on physical exam doc confirmed prostatitis (slight enlarged and "squishy"), prescribed antibiotics.

I'm getting a bit scared lately... I have been battling a recent UTI. I used to get them a lot when I was younger but haven't had one in about 2- 3 years. Anyway, took levaquin 500mg for about a week and felt much better then 4 days later it hit again. Did the AZO testing which tested positive for nitrate so went back on Levaquin and after two days of taking it I wasn't getting much relief so I went to my doctor.

Tests aren’t always reliable and it’s dangerous to wait on treatment. Trust me I don’t notice any more when I get uti and I’ve been hospitalized 2x for kidney failure due to this.

Went to the Dr on 10/21, sent me for a urine test, but he prescripbed levaquin 500mg /day for 7 days because symtoms sounded like gonorrhea or chlamydia. Have now taken two of the levaquins, and the discharge has stopped, still some burning upon urniation, but have developed a dribble of urine after voiding. Is this dribble normal with gonorrhea/chlamydia, and will the levaquin clear the infection?

I would suggest a 24 hrs urine test and a swab culture of the discharge to confirm the diagnosis. Unfortunately treatment is diagnosis specific and these investigations are needed for diagnosis. Till then drink plenty of fluids and cranberry juice because if it is simple UTI, then adequate amount of fluids will flush out the infection. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Hi. I have been experiencing some really disturbing set of symptoms. I was a healthy and happy 22 year old and now feel almost crippled. I have peripheral neurpathy, horrible anxiety, deppression, nausea, weight loss. I took Levaquin for a UTI infection in November 2009 and didn't have symptoms then. I also had a susequent yeast infection. Do anybody have any idea what could be causing thIs? Thank you and God Bless.

I went to the ER 5 times and was prescribed 3 different antibiotics and given antibiotics in house for STDs that came back with a negative result. In early November, I had a UTI and was given Cipro for 3 days. That did not help. I went back and they gave me Cipro for 10 days. That did not help. Then they gave me Levaquin for 7 days. I finished all of the antibiotics but I am still experiencing flank pain (upper abdominal, lower pelvic area, and upper and lower back).

Since i got a test that looked for a UTI, If i had trich, would they have noticed it? or looked for it? Since a uti is looking for an infection, would it come up? the test result came back as "no growth" does that mean there is no bacteria in there at all?

I was having testicular pain 7 weeks ago and the doctor suspected i was having a UTI he prescribe me 7 day 500mh cipro twice a day antibiotic treatment. How during the course of it , i have difficulty in breathing and had dey theoat and mouth which i thought should be the normal side effects of the medication. However after completing the course of the drug , i felt nerve pain on my eyes , thighs , groin area , legs , arms. And muscles weakness.

About 2 hrs after i took Levaquin i was rushed to the ER with my whole left arm hurting and so weak through my whole body specially my arm, along with my blood pressure at 149/100. and my pulse at 119. I thought i was going to pass out, I was so nervous i was shaking all over. I had tests for heart attack stroke and brain scan which all came back normal so i know that it had to be the Levaquin which this was the first time i ever took it. My father in law was going 180 miles per hour to ER.

Panacing i took 1g of Zpack orally then got tested two days later I took another 1g pack. the results came back negetive. Still having the same feeling I took 500mg of Levaquin. Then I read that it was no longer recommended for GC so i took a 250mg shot of Ceftriaxone. Is this enough to kill Chlamydia and Gonorrhea? Could it just be Urthetitis and would these meds take care of that too? Need answers please.

My doctor prescribed prednisone, Symbicort, and also wants to give me Levaquin. I am over 55 years old, and I also have pre-diabetes (6.0 A1C - and am on metformin), and high blood pressure being successfully treated via Benicar. Hey MSers and Limbolanders, I just got over a bad UTI that has taken four antibiotics to eradicate!! One of the antibiotics (the 3rd one) was Cipro (which I had actually requested because I had read that it was so good for urinary tract infections). I will say that Cipro was, indeed, effective at zapping my infection.

I had some tingling before the Levaquin. I don't think it caused me any new tingling. I was warned to pay attention to any burning, tearing feeling, or pain in my tendons. I really felt the anxiety decline, so I was glad I could be on it for as long as I did. Mydoc said the Biaxin/Plaquenil should finish it off.
