Again the symptoms receded but again they returned. This time my doctor prescribed Levaquin (7 days x 500 mg) and 1 shot of Ceftriaxone. I was re-tested for Chlamydia and don't have the results yet.
I read scary reports of serious side effects of Levaquin. It's potent but has risks which is why it's given only as a second line of defense. I'm nervous about taking it and I'm wondering if there are effective alternatives to this.
Hey there...you cannot cut the dose in half....i would call your doctor and see if he/she can change your meds or if it's ok to stop..Levaquin can be given in 250, 500 & 750 mg doses...I was on Levaquin earlier this year for uti and had horrible side effects, so i just stopped taking the meds...I had horrible heart pounding, swollen knees and it felt as if someone had beaten the crap out of me with a baseball bat...
after taking Levaquin 500 mg for 2 days I had a sudden onset of stiffness at inner rt thigh. after 1 hr could not put any weight on rt leg. numb spots bilateral calves. I stopped Levaquin and contacted my dr. who changed the antibiotic and told me to take motrin for the inflammation and explained that tendon rupture was rare on Levaquin. This is day 4 I'm walking with a slight limp due to stiffness inner thigh and weight bearing.
Will Levaquin take care of NGU? I have 750 mg prescription from a doctor for sinus? How long would I have to take it? I also have 500 mg prescription of Clarithromycin as well.
Levaquin or levofloxacin is usually indicated to fight bacteria in the body. Side effects usually resolve after the medicine has been discontinued. I recently had a stool analysis test, ordered by a natrualpath, which revealed aeromonas caviae as a pathogen, and told me to take 21 days ofLevaquin, 500 mg 2 x daily. My internal Dr. and GI Dr. said aeromonas caviae is not a pathogen, and the test was "hocus pocus." I do not know whom to believe. I took 7 days of Levaquin and did feel better.
, i go crazy, no sleep. shake in side and out , my heart beats so fast was so tired but there was no sleeping , when i finally did sleep had night terrors when i take steroids. i now only take them when it;s steroids or die. they also give me zanax and that helps. be careful and taper off the way the doctor wrote the scrip and call him or her and let them know ur side affects.
I had pneumonia in Feb 2017. Was on 750 mg of Levaquin for 5 days (1 per day). A few days after the last dose my left Achilles tendon was very sore. 1 month later, I went to my podiatrist. I had an MRI and it confirmed 2 tears in the tendon as a reaction to Levaquin. Had surgery in May 2017. In a cast for 3 months, then 12 weeks of PT. Today, still swollen, but was told it will last about a year. Now, 12 months after my doses of Levaquin, same Achilles tendon symptoms but now in my right ankle.
She rcvd, Nitrofuran mono 100mg and took several days...did not work. Went to PCP and he gave her 6 days of Levaquin 500 mg and 5 days of Flagyl 250 mg 3 per day. That seemed to clear her up.
Meanwhile I finished the Levaquin after 30 days and was ok for a few then the symptoms came right back. I began to worry about drugresistant Gonorrhea and NGU again and could I have it. There is a tingling or stinging in the Urethra, moreso when my bladder starts to fill.
She had the Bladder infection not long after that and was treated with Nitofuran, Flagyl, 750 mg per day x 6 days and Levaquin, 500 mg per day for 6 days...at the same time I was still on the Levaquin...that I feel is important because we were on the Levaquin at the same time for a week. If We had any GC or NGU...that should have been cured concurrently right? From that point she got better with exception of 2 yeast infections which she insists are normal and she does have frequently...
i took levaquin and it was 750 mg it threw me into panic attacks and anxiety i though i was going to die that night , i did not sleep for 24 hours straight, it was from the med i have took the 500 many times but that almost did me in , i will never take levaquin again google it you will not want to take again either . its a bad drug and cant hurt you .
Side effects should dissipate after discontinuing/finishing the medication. Did you finish all the tablets? It's very important to take all the pills that are prescribed to you because 1) it will fully get rid of the infection 2) If you dont finish the tablets, the next time you take this med, it will not be as effective .My guess would be that maybe something else is going on that is not in relation to Levaquin or maybe you were allergic to the med???

Levaquin is an excellant ATB (Antibiotic). However like many medications it comes with some risks and side effects.

Tinnitus and the being off balance are two different symptoms. One is not causing the other. Have you read the side effects from Levaquin? There are quite alot, and I believe this drug has been "black boxed" in the USA. However, I am not so sure this caused your problems or your problems are unrelated to the Levaquin.
I still been having pain in groin now and the last time I went to the urouligist he said me and wife had inflammation. Just take ibprofen 500 mg for inflammation. He said, that vaginities is just inflammation also.
I saw wife vagina had white/grayish stuff on it. It's not milky but kinda like a paste. Wife went to see a gynocologist and his assistant took sample of white/grayish stuff on a microscope and said it's not yeast. Later on the main doctor said it was yeast.
I took two doses of 500 MG Levaquin on consecutive days, then stopped. Now a week later I still have tingling in my hands and arms. Peripheral Neuropathy is a rare adverse reaction to quinolones. I have reported this to the FDA and to McNeil. The waring statement says (may be reversible if treated in time). Another just says irreversible. The 2004 warning from the FDA states: "{the drug} should be discontinued if the patient experiences symptoms of neuropathy . . .
I did read somewhere that it was 500 mg of levaquin per day for a week would cure it; and i figured the 750 mg; was a day and a half of 500mg; that it would take less time since the dosage was higher
but to be safe; since i have 750mg of levaquin; and took it for 6 complete days SHOULD cure it?
