Levaquin neuropathy

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin neuropathy

levaquin

Avatar f tn Do you know why you have peripheral neuropathy? Have you been evaluated for this? I cannot say that the levaquin was the cause of your symptoms. There are two types of sensory neuropathies in the body – large and small fibers. With small fiber neuropathies, symptoms include burning or buzzing or other vague symptoms starting in the feet and hands then in some cases spreading to other parts of the body.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is difficult to comment without clinical examination. Levaquin can cause peripheral neuropathy which in some cases can be irreversible. It is important to know the extent of peripheral neuropathy in your case. I would suggest you to get a neurological exam done by a neurologist and tests like EMG and NCV. These tests will determine the extent of damage of the nerves and help in deciding subsequent course of treatment.
Avatar m tn If Levofloxacin caused peripherial neuropathy will Cipro also if I take that as an alternate?
Avatar n tn Hi, Levaquin has been associated with Irreversible Peripheral Neuropathy. There is indeed a chance that your husbands condition could be caused by levaquin. Please email me at fqhelp(at)gmail.com for more information.
Avatar n tn I've heard you can have this with fluoroquinolines like levaquin in rare cases- I'm taking levaquin now and seem ok but it seems these drugs can cause tendon ruptures

Avatar n tn I took Levaquin unfortunately last week to treat a bacterial infection. The infection is gone but now my legs are tingling all the time and are in pain as well. I am wondering how long these side effects last and if there is any way to make them go away sooner. I am also having trouble sleeping now. I wish I knew this before taking this!!! 483814 tn?1214311480 I am very hush hush about the hep c. When I answered that I did not have any liver problems he gave me 5 days worth of Levaquin. I don't know however if I should take it. He told me that levaquin was not the ideal antibiotic to treat the condition however it was all that we had samples of . My nose hurts really bad and I am considering taking the levaquin.
Avatar m tn On top of all the pain I got all over the body neuropathy pins and needles. During this time on days the neuropathy calmed down the heart would pound non stop. also at first when I ate. Now the neuropathy has broken I am left with a heart pounding. It is not that high but it feels like a volkswagon running on one cylinder.. Sometimes if it goes high I go into severe panics as it feels like I am running full blast inside.. holter monitor shows nothing, heart looks good.
1994720 tn?1352742233 Turns out much of my symptoms were and are caused by my neuropathy and central nervous system issues from fluoroquinolone toxicity (caused by Levaquin but also Cipro, Avelox, and other fluoroquinolone antibiotics cause this). It has been a nightmare but is better than how it was for four months.
215164 tn?1269466240 is it possible that my episodic vertigo and numbness on the right side of my face could be caused by some sort of polyneuopathy? If so, can anyone tell me which kind of neuropathy could possibly cause sensory motor neuropathy and vertigo. I do have a mild upbeating nygstagmus but it is poorly sustained. ENT says my vertigo is not inner ear related. MRI shows 3 very small non specific white spots between the grey and white matter.
Avatar f tn HI! I am 28 years old and I have had neuropathy throughout my entire body for the past 6 years. It started right after I had my daughter....by c-section, after general anethesia (put to sleep) and an epidural. I haven't had any recent tests done because I just had another baby (had a spinal this time). If I wanted to get blood work done, what tests should I ask for? What other tests could be done to determine the cause? MRIs...of what area?

Avatar n tn I am sorry that you are still in pain. What was your surgery for? During or after your surgery did the doctor use in the IV or prescribe levaquin, cipro, or avelox. These are fluoroquinolones and are know to cause neuropathy. A coworker's father was given levaquin for pneumonia and now has neuropathy.

1994720 tn?1352742233 I just wanted to update that the tendon issues and every other weird symptom under the sun is from fluoroquinolone toxicity from Levaquin. I was given IV Levaquin and steroids for my bout with sepsis and this is the result. I still have tendon issues, horrible neuropathy, and met several others with consistently high b12 and other b vitamin levels with FQ toxicity.
798555 tn?1292787551 Peripheral neuropathy is a nerve disorder occurring in the arms or legs. Symptoms include pain, burning, tingling, numbness, weakness, or a change in sensation to light touch, pain or temperature, or the sense of body position. It can occur at any time during treatment with fluoroquinolones and can last for months to years after the drug is stopped, or even be permanent." http://www.cipro-poisoning.com/2013/09/fda-announces-new-black-box-warning.html http://www.webmd.
Avatar f tn What does your GP say about your symptoms? Some of yours sounds like mine, asthma, elbow problems and Raynaud's as well as fatigue. I'm seeing a rheumatologist soon for the possibility of Scleroderma. I also see a neurologist for peripheral neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy and myelitis. You'll have to look those up, the explanations are too lengthy to spell out here. As you talk to your GP, ask if you should see a rheumatologist.
Avatar f tn Tendinitis and peripheral neuropathy happen frequently. Cipro (and Levaquin, Avelox, etc) are extremely dangerous antibiotics and should not be taken unless all other antiobiotics that could kiil the germs have been tried. Do your research before taking any of these drugs. The list of adverse drug reactions is huge with many people having been crippled from them. They affect every part of your body.
Avatar f tn I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
Avatar f tn I am pretty sure I just have a UTI but if for whatever I have an STD will the Levaquin that I am taking for my UTI cure chlamydia or gonorhea? I am taking 500mg for 6 days. Please help me. This discussion is related to Levaquin for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone...has anyone ever been on Levaquin (it's in the same class of antibiotics as Cipro)? I was on it for 5 days of my 10 when I started getting some wrist pain and they took me off it. I didn't even know it causes tendon damage. Just wondering if anyone else had those side effects??? I think my mom was on it (IV) but didn't have any side effects. All I can say is if they want to put you on it, ask for something else unless there is no choice! Thanks!

Avatar m tn Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
