I've had diarrhea for the past three and a half months (off and on) following a prescription of the antibiotic, Levaquin. I have not noticed any blood but do have minor abdominal and upper left stomach pains, sometimes to the point when I go to the bathroom I get chills/sweats and dizziness. When it first started I began eating Activia which helped solidify my stool but did not fix the problem.
They switched my ab to Levaquin 250 for 7 days. No change in the infection, still had diarrhea, joint pain and back pain. AB was switched to Levaquin 500 for 10 days and I honestly felt GREAT!! 3 - 4 days all symptoms came back so they put on Levaquin 250 again. I had to give a stool sample and get a colonscopy - which came back negative. The stool sample showed no bacteria so I stopped the Levaquin as tinging came back. I have gone down hill since.
Endodonist said there was pus -- infection. I have had allergic reaction to Levaquin and AzitheraI and have had side effects diarrhea and lightheaded from Cefdinir and Cephalexin so he prescribed Cipro 500mg. Said he doesn't usually prescribe but given that it have taken Cipro 250mg in the past (or urinary tract infection with no side effects. Is Cipro as effective as other antibiotics for dental infection?
Levaquin made me very ill. I have lupus & was given Levaquin for a sinus infection. Big no no. Levaquin can & will give you autoimmune disease symptoms and I already had one. Trust me it is not worth it. After 6 pills my calf muscles began to cramp. Dr. says ibuprofen 600mg a day.. Well its been all downhill from there. I developed full body tendinitis,(couldn't walk) my joints & muscles swelled so bad my nerves were compressed.
I have been experiencing yellow nearly all liquid diarrhea for almost three weeks now. I had renal blood work done that came back within normal parameters and have yet to get my stool results back from the lab. My Dr. put me on Levaquin and atropine which i have been taking for 4 days with no improvement in my symptoms. I am now experiencing pain in my lower left abdomen. I aa also losing weight. What tests should I be asking for at this point?
has anyone had bad side effects from useing aniniotics such as levaquin? i started haveing severe symptoms a few days after i started takeing them such as sore joints muscle pain dizzyness extreme fatigue an weakness..
Hi. I have been experiencing some really disturbing set of symptoms. I was a healthy and happy 22 year old and now feel almost crippled. I have peripheral neurpathy, horrible anxiety, deppression, nausea, weight loss. I took Levaquin for a UTI infection in November 2009 and didn't have symptoms then. I also had a susequent yeast infection. Do anybody have any idea what could be causing thIs? Thank you and God Bless.

t want to battle with my doctor (who is a huge advocate of levaquin), but it seems that levaquin is not the right direction for me (I am allergic to penicillin), even if I were to develop pneumonia, which, with the corticosteroids, is also an increasing possibility. Do you have any further insight on this for me? Thanks for your help.
figures) They put me on metronetazol 500mg 2x day and Levequin 500mg 1x. on meds for 3 days now, shouldnt the blood in my unrine and stool be going away. how long does it take or should I go to the ER?
I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?
I had unprotected sex with a girl about 3 weeks ago. Being proactive, I went and got myself a prescription for Levaquin in case of bacterial infection. After taking the antibiotics, I suffered from watery, explosive diarrhea for a couple days followed by a bout of constipation. I then experienced what felt like pooing glass from then on, quite painful until recently when it diminished to a minor pain. The pain though has been replaced with a pronounced itch.
I need help please. My doctors had me on Levaquin for 4 years straight. I believe it's destroyed most of my immune system. Since being off Levaquin for the past few months, I have had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia since. My muscles and body is in agony. I now have to use oxygen all the time, day and night. The recovery times from surgeries are greatly extended now. I'm having another back surgery in a few weeks.
I was on Levaquin for 10 days for a sinus infection. Have severe joint pain in both knees and shoulders. Hurts to walk, and cannot move my arms above my head. Stopped taking Levaquin on Monday and is now Wednesay and pain is still unbelievable. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and is there any way to get the pain to go away sooner? My doctor said I should feel better in a couple of days.

This thread says that levaquin is active against both chlamydia and gonorrhea. But the original post is from 2005. It's five years later and I'm wondering if your advice has changed. I understand that gono has grown resistant to this type of antibiotic treatment but was really wondering if levaquin will have any effect on gonorrhea. Now...in 2010.
Your doctor was pretty close to correct, except that there was no signficant risk for chlamydia from the contact you describe. The risks for gonorrhea and herpes were low, but not zero. (Barely touching the vaginal area with your penis carries no plausible risk. Any STD transmission risk that existed was from the oral exposure.)
Diarrhea after treatment doesn't change the reliability of any antibiotic.
Also of note today on my last day on levaquin i started to have abdominal pain, diarrhea and had a fever of 101.3 however 2 days ago I visited a friend who also had similar symptoms of diarrhea/abdominal pain and we ate lunch together sharing a meal. I only found today that he had the diarrhea and abdominal pain. I took 1000mg of Tylenol and the fever went down to 99.5. However I still have diarrhea around 3 times so far today.
