Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin dosage prostatitis

levaquin

Avatar m tn This sounds like prostatitis to me, but you might want to post in the urology forum. I don't know much about stones in the prostate, but what I do know is that a theory for chronic prostatitis is stones. You should google prostate stones to find out more about it.
Avatar n tn No change in bowel or bladder except he recently has been on levaquin for second episode of prostatitis (first episode 20 years ago). Any ideas about what is going on? thanks so much.
Avatar m tn Handsfield I understand that Chlamydia is not transmitted orally so my fears were primarily GC since the Levaquin is a fluoroquinolone. After the Avelox, Flagy and 4 days of the Levaquin I resumed sex with my partner. She had the Bladder infection not long after that and was treated with Nitofuran, Flagyl, 750 mg per day x 6 days and Levaquin, 500 mg per day for 6 days...at the same time I was still on the Levaquin...
Avatar n tn But not because of your current symptoms or past prostatitis. Chlamydia does not cause prostatitis and does not usually cause the sort symptoms you have described. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn 35 yr old male. with a history of UTI's, approx 2/yr. Symptoms were slight sensitivity in lower abdomen but no burning during urination - I know the feeling so went to the doc very early. Urine test at doc's was negative. Prescribed Levaquin 250mg 1/day for 14 days. On my last incidence, approx. 6 months ago, went to doc with same symptoms, based on physical exam doc confirmed prostatitis (slight enlarged and "squishy"), prescribed antibiotics.
Avatar n tn I went into a urologist and was diagnosed with potential prostatitis and was put on a 4 week course of bactrim. I had read that chlamydia and gonorrhea could be the cause of prostatitis. I had a complete STI test done and all came back negative. I talked to the original doctor and he made the comment that the Bactrim may have caused a false negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea and prescribed zithromax (1g) and a shot of rosephin as a preventative. I informed my girlfriend and her Dr.
Avatar n tn Went to see a doctor, who confirmed prostatitis--not BPH--with digital probing, and gave me azithromycin, then levaquin, ten day courses of each. Neither had any noticeable effect beyond making me constipated. I did online research and found out that most prostatitis is not bacterial, a possibility the doc (who was elderly) did not even appear to consider.
Avatar m tn I did not show any signs of an STD. Since then I have developed Prostatitis. In the past I have had Epidimitis, so I wasn't really concerned about the Prosatitis. I went to my Primary Care Physician to get this diagnosed and he put me on a 2 week dose of Levaquin. He took a urine sample at that time, but was not looking for STD's specifically. He said he noticed a little bacteria in the urine. My question is...I have read that Prostatitis can be a sign of an STD.
Avatar n tn I DID NOT see the Dr but rather a PA. He told me I had chronic non-baterial prostatitis and gave me a 10 day cycle of levaquin, saying that it should help the inflammation but that it’s not bacterial. The diagnosis of “chronic” from what I have read come only after 6 months or more of symptoms, which is not the case for me. I’m 7 days in and done a lot of research on this disease that no one has answers for or agreement on.
Avatar n tn Can prostatitis cause dribbling after urination or urine to sit in the urethra? I also feel as if my muscles down there arent as strong as they once were. I am only 27years and old and have been on Levaquin for two weeks now without much change. The external urethral meatus is also slightly discolored. Its more of a vibrant pink color but obviously different from the rest of my glans penis. I also notice that the tip is always kind of wet and sometimes stuck together.
Avatar n tn If you had prostatitis, it was unlikely to be related to an STD. While it was thought in the past that prostatitis was commonly a complication of STD infections, it now appears that STDs rarely, if ever cause the syndrome. 5. I do not think there is anything to be gained by further STD screening or treatment. My suggestion, work with your health care provider to address the problem but do not worry about STDs. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn About a month ago I began having symptoms of Prostatis several days after receiving oral sex from a girl. I have had the same exact symptoms twice in the past after a sexual encounter, every time I became very nervous afterward (I cheated and got nervous about std's clamydia/gonorhea). I was actually broke up with my girlfriend this time but got back together shortly after I received the oral sex and are still together. We had unprotected sex before I started having the symptoms.
Avatar n tn I have diagnosis of chronic prostatitis. The symptoms, which are mild and include painful erection, ejaculation and tenderness in the prostate and penus, started in late December 2007. I began treatment in early January. My primary care physician put me on doxycycline (twice a day) until late February 2008. Because my condition did not improve, I was referred to a urologist. The urologist put me on bactrim (twice a day) until late May 2008.
Avatar n tn I got diagnosed with prostatitis. They gave me Levaquin and it went away. It came back 5 months later and I got the same treatment. Well in the past month or so I visited 2 CSW. I use a condom with both and only one gave me unprotected oral. I started getting lower back pain again, and in my perineum and testicle discomfort. After I pee I feel burning, but there is no discharge and even my thighs hurt. It even hurts in my lower stomach.
Avatar n tn I agree with dannz. I would go to your doctor or a urologist. I had the same thing happen to me and he gave me levaquin for it.
Avatar m tn (Terrible burning pain and slight discharge) I once again went in to see my doctor and he said that the Chlamydia had most likely not been eradicated the first time and proceeded to put me on another course of Doxycycline, this one being for 10 days, same dosage. Within about 5 days, my symptoms once again ceased and I was feeling pretty well and continued to take the medication. By day 7, the burning urethral pain came back with a vengeance.
Avatar n tn Cipro for 2 weeks still in pain. Then switched to Levaquin for 10 days. While still on the cipro I began to feel mild muscle aches. After 4 days of Levaquin my muscle aches and joint pain increased. I stopped the pill doc's orders 2 weeks later on no antibiotics.
Avatar m tn levaquin 750mg for 10 days is what finally cured my prostatitis
Avatar m tn the symptoms i had (pain at the tip of penis) went away after using levaquin (dr called it a prostatitis) then came back 3 months later. i took another 10 days of levaquin, symptoms went away, then came back. took cipro, felt better after 1st day, then symptoms came back 1 week later. any thoughts on why the symptoms go away after using levaquin and cipro (temporarily)?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with acute bacterial prostatitis (confirmed by a semen culture) recently. I did about 5 weeks of levaquin and most of the symptoms went away. The only problem that seems to linger is this strange sunburn-like feeling in my inner thighs. It's just always warm and irritating down there. It's not painful. It's just noticeable enough to prevent me from forgetting about this whole awful affair. Has anyone experienced this? Did it ever go away?
Avatar m tn that particular antibiotic is generally prescribed for prostatitis. it's also the cheapest. there are others that are given in once a day dosing called levaquin. did your doctor do a PSA blood test? this is a test to determine if the prostate is overactive and will help rule out other problems. this test was helpful for me because it help my doctor diagnose my prostate cancer before it spreaded. not intended to alarm you!
Avatar n tn Because of my history with prostatitis the doc gave me 5 pills/1 a day for Levaquin. I still have the discomfort regardless. When I masterbate my lower back hurts and my left testicle. I know you said this is not a symptom of an STD. For every vaginal sexual encounter I have ever had in the past 6 years I have always used a condom. What are my chances of contracting HIV? I doubt I had an STD, but if for some reason I did, would the Levaquin have taken care of it?
Avatar n tn I eventually (June 2008) go to a urologist who tells me i have Chronic Prostatitis TYPE II and III...............He prescribed me Levaquin and Flomax but i had a bad reaction to Levaquin after just 5-7 days on it (Rash on one shoulder and weak knees).....After coming off the Levaquin my Prostate seemed to be more sensative and more inflamed. I experienced pain in my underarm Lympnodes and an increase in stomach gas...
Avatar n tn my symptoms have not improved and are pretty much debiilitating. the doctor i saw today gave me levaquin for 20 days, will this help? This discussion is related to Epididymitis, Chronic Prostatitis, or other?.
Avatar n tn I was unable to get treatment for 5 weeks after intercourse and I now have prostatitis. I am being treated with 500mg of cipro, 2x daily for two weeks. One of my lingering symptoms is pain during urination. My urethra is irritated and it seems stretched out. When I have an erection, the tip of my penis (urethra) stetches open. Will this go away once my prostatitis goes away and I no longer have urethritis?
Avatar n tn i was then sent to a urologist and everything came back normal beside a large hydrocele. i was prescribed levaquin for 14 days, that seemed to work. now the second part of the question. 2.) i'm not sure of the cause but was diagnosed with NGU - chlamydia and gonnoreah were negative. i felt like these symptoms came on after about 3 days after an encounter with a woman without a condom, i was treated with doxy and cipro.
