Levaquin dosage in renal failure

Common Questions and Answers about Levaquin dosage in renal failure

levaquin

Avatar m tn This is a common occurrence in heart failure patients. It is possible, however, that the confusion could be caused by electrolyte disturbances and by some renal failure ( you didn't mention that but should check for it). The metolazone can also worsen heart function when it removes too much fluid from the vasculature too fast thereby not filling the heart properly leading to decreased output. That could cause confusion, especially in the setting of electrolyte imbalance.
Avatar f tn If you have only one kidney causing you problems it is very, very unlikely that you will get renal failure. Most people who have renal failure have anatomical abnormalities in both kidneys which have caused them problems for a very long time or are diabetic. Our kidneys can take a lot of abuse before they stop working completely. I hope this helps. Please go back to your GP and make sure that your symptoms are treated and find out what has caused your kidney to become swollen.
Avatar f tn New Onset or Worsening Renal Impairment Tenofovir is principally eliminated by the kidney. Renal impairment, including cases of acute renal failure and Fanconi syndrome (renal tubular injury with severe hypophosphatemia), has been reported with the use of VIREAD [See ADVERSE REACTIONS]. It is recommended that creatinine clearance be calculated in all patients prior to initiating therapy and as clinically appropriate during therapy with VIREAD.
Avatar f tn The next time you are prescribed Levaquin the drill is not to "tell the physician you have had problems". The drill is to REFUSE the levaquin. The second part of the drill is to go to the FDA site on the internet and submit a written adverse drug effect report. Just telephoning your physician about the problems is not sufficient. You need to write a letter and send it certified mail. Pain in the joints and elsewhere are common side effects of Levaquin.
Avatar f tn I went to the ER 5 times and was prescribed 3 different antibiotics and given antibiotics in house for STDs that came back with a negative result. In early November, I had a UTI and was given Cipro for 3 days. That did not help. I went back and they gave me Cipro for 10 days. That did not help. Then they gave me Levaquin for 7 days. I finished all of the antibiotics but I am still experiencing flank pain (upper abdominal, lower pelvic area, and upper and lower back).
Avatar f tn Well, we went back to the vet yesterday. He said Sadie's lungs sounded good - fluid seems to be gone. She is still retaining fluid in her tummy though - not as much, but it is still evident. We are to continue the lasix and the Dr. also put her on special food - Iam's Veterinarian Renal Formula. He said that should help and he will do blood work in two weeks. Hmm.... I am wondering why he didn't just do the blood work yesterday?
Avatar f tn yesterday we noticed a patch of hair gone so took him to the vet had all the blood work done and this morning we received a call saying Tye was in renal failure and may only have a few months to live.we brought him into the vet to get SUB Q fluids and this is needed for the next few days he will get a special diet and have to take a water pill and antiacid as well as another medication i cant remember what it is called let alone what it is use for.
Avatar f tn and was rescued from the streets in houston. she has renal failure and has really bad teeth. The problem is two different vets.said it would be too risky to put her to sleep to pull or work on her teeth. Her breath is really bad and I know she is in pain. My poor little girl needs some help. Does anyone have a suggestions?
681148 tn?1437661591 I was hospitalized myself for the first time ever with renal failure back in September. To this day the nephrologist hasn't been able to figure out what the cause of the renal failure was or why the kidneys are only almost back to normal, but won't quite get to normal. I also have Oral Allergy Syndrome, GERD/IBS, Celiac, MCS and asthma and possibly CFS/FMS. I've been reading some information about hursutism and its connection to the cortisol produced by the adrenal glands.
Avatar n tn Renal failure may be either chronic or acute. Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) is a progressive, irreversible deterioration of kidney function. Because cats hide their illnesses and the very early signs of CRF are subtle, this disease may only be recognized when the patient reaches the 70% deterioration level and more dramatic symptoms are observable. The seemingly sudden onset may appear to be an acute condition but is most often a crisis point of CRF.
Avatar n tn My cat, Miss Kitty has just died from renal failure. We did not notice any symptoms except weight loss and as she was about 14,, we attributed this to being older. She was still active and eating, until one Friday night when she collapsed. We took her to an excellent vet who gave her aggressive treatment over a period of weeks, including IV fluids, saline, blood supplements, phosphorus blocker, CCRF supplements, KD cat food, and we also gave her Astro Oil.
Avatar m tn I have 2 twin jack Russell terriers. today I was told one of them has renal failure. vet wanted to eutho him then and there. was totally unprepared. I brought him back home cause I can't afford the costs for an attempt to save him, which I know there is zero salvation. my question is this. I bought these twin brothers from a breeder at 12 weeks. they have never been apart since their birth. always butt and butt when they sleep. 11 yrs old.
Avatar m tn Risk factors include mild liver function test abnormalities in one patient and end-stage renal failure in the other. Several other cases of suspected interaction with clarithromycin have also been reported in which patients developed rhabdomyolysis, pancytopenia, or neuromyopathy during treatment with colchicine. In most cases, concomitant risk factors such as preexisting renal and/or hepatic impairment were present.
Avatar n tn Treatment in the absence of viral eradication is helpful for some patients. One of the bigger limitations in the use of ribavirin in renal failure patients is the lack of an accurate, reliable, and rapid test to determine ribavirin blood levels." http://www.clinicaloptions.com/Hepatitis/Annual%20Updates/2005%20Annual%20Update/Modules/Bacon/Pages/Page%206.

1047522 tn?1258145704 Transplant is already listed as a treatment option on the Kidney Tracker. You have removed it from your tracker through customized settings. We'll add all the other ones you've requested to the Kidney Tracker and let you know when they're available.
1059731 tn?1254434164 My cat is 20 years old and began having renal failure around 5 years ago. Otherwise, he is healthy, continues to run around and play, still chases me when I come home, etc. Two weeks ago he began having seizure (the worse thing I have experience and im sure the worse thing he has also). Took him to the vet immediately...do full work up and nothing found on CBC. Xray did show a mass in kidney so we assumed this tumor had mets to the brain.
Avatar f tn Dosing interval adjustment of VIREAD and close monitoring of renal function are recommended in all patients with creatinine clearance below 50 mL/min [See Dosage and Administration (2.3)]. No safety or efficacy data are available in patients with renal impairment who received VIREAD using these dosing guidelines, so the potential benefit of VIREAD therapy should be assessed against the potential risk of renal toxicity.
Avatar m tn Renal anomalies could be responsible for decreased or deranged renal function and may lead to renal failure. One working kidney is enough for normal functions of the body. It would be difficult to comment if your other symptoms could be related. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating nephrologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn t understand if it is showing I am in the middle of the range why are you saying I am too low in b12 and is the renal doctor saying she is correct about decreasing the dose .I sent an e-mail to my doctor what she thought about the renal doctors result and she hasn't answered me yet. right now I am on 15 days of 100mcg.
Avatar f tn The throwing up became very bad so I took him to a different vet that after a urine test was able to establish Teddy was in 75% kidney failure. Some Medication was given but he has become increasing worse. Vet suggested an IV Solutuion but after researching it on the internet decided my little guy's quality of life and his always wanting to please is not fair to him. To prolong the inevitable for something that may not work is not fair to him or me.
